Book excerpt: Relive the Moment When the Bruins Won It All! After thirty-nine torturous, winless years, the Bruins finally returned home with their prize - but bringing the Stanley Cup back to Boston was no easy feat. The heated series, arguably the scrappiest in play off history, took a toll on the Black and Gold and their fans. Brutal hits and at-the-buzzer losses were enough to wane anyone's faith. Fans couldn't help but cringe as they watched their favorite team repeat their history of nightmarish defeats. 2011 was not going to be the year for them. Yet, the Bruins somehow pulled through, winning four out of the last five playoff games including a thrilling shut-out in Game 7. Not only did the Bruins fulfill their incredible wish, but they also won recognition as the only NHL team to ever win three games en route to the Stanley Cup. Bruin Redemption captures every moment of the Bruins' journey toward victory. With an in-depth background of the team's struggles and thrilling snapshots of the games leading up to the big win, readers will want to relive this unforgettable ride again and again.

Book excerpt: After many years of lonely prospecting in Arizona's Superstition Mountains with his ornery mule, Maggot, Bruin Henry finally discovers a rich vein of pure gold. Filled with the heartfelt intention to use his newfound fortune for redemption after a life of wild and sinful living, Bruin Henry rushes off to Prescott to file his claim. But in Arizona's territorial capitol, he discovers that his long-lost daughter is dying and that he has a spirited fourteen-year-old granddaughter, Ophelia. Wanted posters offering reward money claim that Bruin Henry is a murdering stagecoach robber whose last job resulted in a cold-blooded murder of innocent passengers. Only Bruin knows that it wasn't him who did the killing, but instead Ophelia's father. If Bruin Henry honors his daughter's dying wish to find and re-unite Link Cochran and Ophelia, he is almost certain to die at the killer's hand. But how can he refuse his daughter's death-bed wish and his very last chance for redemption? Formerly published as "Restitution."

From the early days when the lack of reasonable travel options forced the Bruins to play local high school teams, to the World War II years against the studio teams from Hollywood, to the almost surreal success during the 1960s and 70s, to beyond. Jackie Robinson played basketball at UCLA. So did Rafer Johnson. They were part of the era when the Bruins often struggled for wins, strange as that would come to sound for a program that would one day have 88 of them in a row. Lew Alcindor came from the East to dominate, Bill Walton from the West to maintain the greatness, John Wooden from the heartland of Indiana to lead them both, and to lead them all. The Bruin 100 recounts—in order of importance to the sport and the programs—how Wooden nearly didn't come to UCLA and the moment when Alcindor was glad he did. It chronicles the guard who later won the Nobel Peace Prize, the forward who helped save a life in the afternoon and a team later that night, the center who wasn't a superstar but played like it to keep the dynasty alive. It brings back the people and the moments, the most storied games in the most successful of programs. The national championships, the loss to Houston in what has been called the Game of the Century. The record winning streak, the loss to North Carolina State in the Final Four that still pains. The coast-to-coast run by Tyus Edney against Missouri, the even-more-improbable run by Larry Brown's underdog team to reach the title game. Relive the tradition, some parts of which are not even detailed in the record books, through photos and anecdotes and the foreward by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Or live it for the first time.

But when a sweet and massive man steals her heart instead, she decides she's not going to wait around for destiny any longer.

Book excerpt: Bursting upon the National Hockey League scene in the fall of 1966 amid enormous hype and expectations, Robert Gordon "Bobby" Orr would go on to exceed all predictions of greatness. Displaying All-Star level ability from the start, it was his talent as a play maker and scorer that utterly revolutionized the game of hockey. At the same time, Orr helped revive a tired, long-suffering Boston Bruins team, leading them to their first Stanley Cup in twenty-nine years at the age of twenty-two. Orr and

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Uncle Tom's Cabin is an anti-slavery novel by American author Harriet Beecher Stowe, published in 1852. After the publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin, Southerners accused Stowe of misrepresenting slavery. In order to show that she had neither lied about slavery nor exaggerated the plight of enslaved people, she compiled The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin. The Key to Uncle Tom's Cabin was published to document the veracity of the depiction of slavery in Stowe's anti-slavery novel Uncle Tom's Cabin. First published in 1853, the book also provides insights into Stowe's own views on slavery. The book was subtitled "Presenting the Original Facts and Documents upon Which the Story Is Founded, Together with Corroborative Statements Verifying the Truth of the Work". Harriet Beecher Stowe ( 1811 – 1896) was an American abolitionist and author. Her novel Uncle Tom's Cabin was a depiction of life for African Americans under slavery. It energized anti-slavery forces in the American North, while provoking widespread anger in the South. She wrote more than 20 books, including novels, three travel memoirs, and collections of articles and letters. She was influential both for her writings and her public stands on social issues of the day.

Book excerpt: Beecher Stowe received a fair amount of criticism about her so-called "misrepresentation" of slavery with her publication of Uncle Tom's Cabin in 1852. She published this volume the following year, in which she sought to prove the veracity of her portrayal of the institution by laying out her source materials, including eyewitness accounts. As with the novel, Beecher Stowe received tremendous support from many Northerners and abolitionists for this publication and drew heavy criticism from advocates of slavery, especially in the Southern states

But along the way, he's been blamed for worse crimes - namely, cold-blooded murder. The man truly responsible- who rode with him the day of that botched robbery - is none other than his very own son-in-law, Link Cochran. Now, many years later, Henry has learned that his daughter is dying, and she has just one request - Henry must take his thirteen-year-old granddaughter to meet Link Cochran, the father she's never known. There's nobody Henry would rather see dead. But he owes his daughter for all those lost years. So, saddled with a teenager who hates him, Henry sets out to find Link - and some restitution..." - p.
