The author's intent is to promote the preservation of marriage in the values that the Lord gave the human family in the Garden of Eden. This is an invaluable work for those interested in one of the most crucial issues facing humankind. This insightful book is a must-read for every family, church leader, teacher, and counselor--anyone interested and involved in the challenge of restoring holiness in marriage. Book excerpt: Real solutions to a hidden epidemic: family estrangement. Estrangement from a family member is one of the most painful life experiences. It is devastating not only to the individuals directly involved--collateral damage can extend upward, downward, and across generations, More than 65 million Americans suffer such rifts, yet little guidance exists on how to cope with and overcome them. In this book, Karl Pillemer combines the advice of people who have successfully reconciled with powerful insights from social science research. The result is a unique guide to mending fractured families. Fault Lines shares for the first time findings from Dr. Pillemer's ten-year groundbreaking Cornell Reconciliation Project, based on the first national survey on estrangement; rich, in-depth interviews with hundreds of people who have experienced it; and insights from leading family researchers and therapists. He assures people who are estranged, and those who care about them, that they are not alone and that fissures can be bridged. Through the wisdom of people who have "been there," Fault Lines shows how healing is possible through clear steps that people can use right away in their own families. It addresses such questions as: How do rifts begin? What makes estrangement so painful? Why is it so often triggered by a single event? Are you ready to reconcile? How can you overcome past hurts to build a new future with a relative? Tackling a subject that is achingly familiar to almost everyone, especially in an era when powerful outside forces such as technology and mobility are lessening family cohesion, Dr. Pillemer combines dramatic stories, science-based guidance, and practical repair tools to help people find the path to reconciliation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written in an easy-to-understand, conversational style, Restoring the Shattered is an account of Nancy E. Head’s journey through single-motherhood and poverty. The permanent divide between her and her husband led to a shattering of their family as the children settled into separate camps. The story begins when Nancy and her children have little to eat. Through a miraculous intervention, God provides—and leads them along their way. Other interventions and more guidance came from people of different denominations, illustrating Christ’s love through the larger Church. When one of Nancy’s grown children became Catholic, she became more aware of the ways her own evangelical tradition often dismisses Catholic believers and misinterprets many of their doctrines. While doctrines may differ, so many essential beliefs are the same. Restoring the Shattered looks at the causes of the Reformation and other schisms, and how the original schism in Christianity happened because of a mistranslation. Misunderstanding others’ faith languages feeds so much separation today. Nancy encourages pursuing accord among evangelical, Catholic, and Christian Orthodox communities in order to lead the Church to the kind of ministry that helped Nancy’s family so much and rebuild the ruins of society through obedience to Christ’s call for Christian accord.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If only “we the people” of America could understand that the American Revolution was only a mere political upheaval compared to the moral war we now face. We are divided in morals and ethics more than in culture, wherein truth is more an option than a necessity. Ever since time began, the most celebrated nations have been those that have abridged the exorbitant chasm between morality and secularism, between feelings and principles, righteousness and unrighteousness. America appears to have joined the infamous tradition of derelict and ungodly nations that have surrendered their integrity for power and wealth, like ancient Babylon. In this The Last Word to America, the intent is to paint a living portrait of the ways in which America has abandoned divine counsel—how Washington, significant events, and personalities have shaped personal experience. It explores music and the perverse arts, through which philosophers are damaging our young people and the families of America are sullied.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As cities sprawl across Latin America, absorbing more and more of its people, crime and violence have become inescapable. From the paramilitary invasion of Medell¡n in Colombia, the booming wealth of crack dealers in Managua, Nicaragua and police corruption in Mexico City, to the glimmers of hope in Lima, this book provides a dynamic analysis of urban insecurity. Based on new empirical evidence, interviews with local people and historical contextualization, the authors attempts to shed light on the fault-lines which have appeared in Latin American society. Neoliberal economic policy, it is argued, has intensified the gulf between elites, insulated in gated estates monitored by private security firms, and the poor, who are increasingly mistrustful of state-sponsored attempts to impose order on their slums. Rather than the current trend towards government withdrawal, the situation can only be improved by co-operation between communities and police to build new networks of trust. In the end, violence and insecurity are inseparable from social justice and democracy.

Crime is rampant in today's society and appears in all civilizations and cultures. Crime has austere costs and detrimental effects on the physical, social and psychological affluence of people globally. The biggest contributor to crime in the world is individuals who participate in frivolous and trivial acts in order to sustain themselves. In the contemporary world of crime, forensic science has advanced to the point where it can positively identify offenders. Since justice plays a significant part in crimes and punishment, it is bewildering and has transcendental value. Additionally, legal provisions compel criminals to be jittery, tumid, and contemptible and also oblige criminals to anticipate consequences beforehand. In this book, a multidisciplinary approach to identifying crime and comprehending the psychological, forensic, and legal components of the crime is taken into consideration. It gives insights of crime in the contemporary era and furthermore provides knowledge of modern tools and techniques involved in solving crime of discrete types. This book holistically explores the different approaches to understanding crime and its impact on the modern world. This book investigates the societal structures and processes affected by crime in a comprehensive way.

Book excerpt: The research question of this book reads: Can South Africans, amidst all the contemporary distrust in political leadership and moral decay, find a moral compass that could lead them to a humane society of mutual trust, respect for each other, a flourishing life and a bright future for future generations? This book presents new perspectives on the psychopathology created by colonisation, the failures of the post-1994 dispensation regarding reconciliation, transformation, justice, distorted family life, violence, unity in diversity, as well as moral leadership and agency and indifference to a future of hope. It proposes a new moral compass that can lead South Africa out of the abyss.

Book excerpt: This open access book aims to provide a comprehensive but practical overview of the knowledge required for the assessment and management of the older adult with or at risk of fragility fracture. It considers this from the perspectives of all of the settings in which this group of patients receive nursing care. Globally, a fragility fracture is estimated to occur every 3 seconds. This amounts to 25 000 fractures per day or 9 million per year. The financial costs are reported to be: 32 billion EUR per year in Europe and 20 billon USD in the United States. As the population of China ages, the cost of hip fracture care there is likely to reach 1.25 billion USD by 2020 and 265 billion by 2050 (International Osteoporosis Foundation 2016). Consequently, the need for nursing for patients with fragility fracture across the world is immense. Fragility fracture is one of the foremost challenges for health care providers, and the impact of each one of those expected 9 million hip fractures is significant pain, disability, reduced quality of life, loss of independence and decreased life expectancy. There is a need for coordinated, multi-disciplinary models of care for secondary fracture prevention based on the increasing evidence that such models make a difference. There is also a need to promote and facilitate high quality, evidence-based effective care to those who suffer a fragility fracture with a focus on the best outcomes for recovery, rehabilitation and secondary prevention of further fracture. The care community has to understand better the experience of fragility fracture from the perspective of the patient so that direct improvements in care can be based on the perspectives of the users. This book supports these needs by providing a comprehensive approach to nursing practice in fragility fracture care.
