Book excerpt: This book is a collection of poetry I have been writing over the years. I don’t have much confidence in it to call it a good piece of literature, but I can call it good art because it has come right out of my heart and there hasn’t been much peddling around it, as I am not a writer or a poet. There were moments of desolation which I have tried to pen and some silly stories that kept popping in my mind. It is mostly a rant on my life and the times. It is ordinary because I am ordinary. Thankfully nothing has happened to me, which is catastrophic or has not happened to the women of this country. I can’t boast of deep experiences because it’s largely been a shallow life. I grew up like any normal kid, got married, had kids, reached midlife and wondered, what have I done with my one life to be proud of? What have I to leave behind when I die? Absolutely nothing! That is when I tried doing a lot of things all at once and failed completely because I neither had the skill nor the patience to learn. Then I finally decided to publish my poetry, however dull or incompetent it may be. Whatever this book is made up of, it is my ticket to freedom. Having contributed something to this world, I can go back to my chores and not give much thought to the world and the beings in it who are in need of me and all the hands they can manage to make it a better place.

Book excerpt: Now in paperback, the stunning finale of the Project Nemesis trilogy from New York Times bestselling author Brendan Reichs. The 64 members of Fire Lake's sophomore class have managed to survive the first two phases of the Program--and each other. Now, they alone have emerged into the dawn of a new era on Earth, into a Fire Lake valley that's full of otherworldly dangers and challenges. Although staying alive in this broken world should force Min, Noah, Tack, and the others to form new alliances, old feuds die hard, and the brutality of the earlier Program phases cannot be forgotten. But being a team isn't easy for the sophomores, and when they discover that they may not be alone on the planet after all, they'll have to decide if they're going to work together . . . or die together.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reconsiders Virginia Woolf's work for the 21st century focusing on coevolution, duality and contradiction. These eleven newly commissioned essays represent the evolution, or coevolution, of Woolf studies in the early twenty-first century. Divided into five parts. Self and Identity; Language and Translation; Culture and Commodification; Human, Animal and Nonhuman; and Genders, Sexualities and Multiplicities, the essays represent the most recent scholarship on the subjective, provisional, and contingent nature of Woolf's work. The expert contributors consider unstable constructions of self and identity, and language and translation from multiple angles, including shifting textualities, culture and the marketplace, critical animal studies, and discourses that fracture and revise gender and sexuality.Key Features: - Extends existing critical work that considers a multiplicity of constructions of Virginia Woolf- Demonstrates original and diverse ways of reading this canonical (and contradictory) author- Explores multiple meanings related to the conjoined, fused, connected and evolving nature of Woolf studies- Considers new configurations, new pairings, and new ways of placing ideas in tension around Woolf's work for a postmodern, postmillennial eraEditor bio: Jeanne Dubino is Professor of English and Global Studies, Department of Cultural, Gender, and Global Studies, Appalachian State University, Boone. Gill Lowe is Senior Lecturer in English at University Campus Suffolk, School of Arts and Humanities, University Campus Suffolk. Vara Neverow is Professor of English and Women's Studies, English Department, Engleman Hall, Southern Connecticut State University. Kathryn Simpson is Senior Lecturer in English at Cardiff Metropolitan University.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Every secret of a writer's soul, experience of his life, and quality of his mind is written large in his work." -- Virginia Woolf Panken enables us to read this secret language without doing violence to the artistic integrity of the writing. Virginia Woolf's continuing need for maternal protection, her physical symptoms, depressive bent, anorexia, and suicidal leanings suggest her vulnerability, inner struggle, and masked rage. This book delves into the substrate of Virginia Woolf's emotional dilemmas as well as the subtexts of her novels and shows the confluence between her life and art. It brings new insights into Woolf's struggle to come to grips with her confused personal and sexual identity, into her artistic conscience, and into the conditions and motivations of her suicide.

Book excerpt: “Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi strides—and soars and plots and duels—again in this stirring new addition to the Star Wars saga. . . . This splendid adventure yarn offers a gut-wrenching surprise on nearly every page and a knock-the-socks-off ending.”—Publishers Weekly When the economically depressed government of Ord Cestus threatens to sell incredibly deadly battle droids to the Separatists, Supreme Chancellor Palpatine dispatches a team led by Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi to the planet. Their mission: to halt the deal. A peaceful resolution is preferable, but if all else fails, the Republic will not hesitate to demonstrate the consequences of disloyalty by launching a full-scale attack—wiping out not only the means of biodroid production but countless lives as well. The prospect of such a slaughter only fuels Obi-Wan’s growing suspicions about the sinister path the Republic seems to be taking. Facing a crisis of conscience, Obi-Wan must find the wisdom and strength to prevent a bloodbath and safeguard the Republic—while abiding by the ancient code to which he has pledged his life.
