Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘The Discarded Brick’, a three season trilogy, in two volumes, is set in Africa, Europe and North America. It is about the travels and experiences of the author. In Volume 2, Season 3, the author and his family return to his home country. Back in Uganda, he was initially welcomed by all with open arms, like the prodigal son. He works on several jobs for the government and in the private sector, till he settles for communication consultancy. Most of these jobs again involved travel within and outside the country. This included a stint in the United States, Greece, Germany and more countries in Eastern and Southern Africa. However, as his brother and guardian, who had earlier lost his only son inched closer to becoming an octogenarian, some of his immediate family members started treating the author like an intruder in their midst. Not everyone was happy to co-exist with him anymore. Fears and intrigue led to a family split, legal battles and irreconcilable differences. He and his siblings were treated like social pariahs that had to be avoided like the pest by some relatives, and this even sucked in some members of his immediate family, who imposed a perennial domestic banishment on him.

Book excerpt: The Slovak economy has been relatively resilient to the energy crisis, but growth has slowed amid high inflation, weakening foreign demand and tightening financial conditions. The pandemic and the energy crisis have deteriorated public finances; steady fiscal consolidation is now needed to rebuild fiscal buffers and improve long-term fiscal sustainability in the face of rapid population ageing. Sustaining economic convergence and facilitating inclusive structural change requires improving skill provision at all stages of the learning cycle, fostering the domestic innovation capacity and improving the business environment.

Book excerpt: In Eco-Spirituality and Human-Animal Relationships Mark Hawthorne examines the all-too-often difficult and exploitative relationship between animals and humans. Eco-spirituality seeks to reassess our relationship with the environment, where humans are understood as not morally superior but rather equal to the life forms with whom we share this planet. Our kinship with animals has perhaps always been fragmented, but it’s not too late to embrace a new paradigm. For us, for them, and for all life on Earth.

Book excerpt: Nothing in Arcadia is what it seems. Beneath its façade of order and industry lies a corrupt brotherhood of criminals, cronies, and cops all drawing from the same tainted well. But there's a wrench in this dirty machine, a leather-clad, one-eyed, one-man wrecking crew bent on tearing down the lie of Arcadia, brick-by-brick. The man known as X cares about only one thing, the rule of law. Unfortunately, that law is X. X Omnibus Volume 2 collects for the first time the audacious, critically-acclaimed Dark Horse series. Violent and morally ambiguous, X walks the thin line between mission and madness and shows that the devil you know may be better, much better, than the devil you don't. * Includes X #12-25; "Someone to Watch Over Me" from Dark Horse Extra #28-31, all never before collected.
