Book Synopsis Deep Inelastic Scattering by : Robin Devenish
Download or read book Deep Inelastic Scattering written by Robin Devenish and published by OUP Oxford. This book was released on 2011-04-28 with total page 418 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book provides an up-to-date, self-contained account of deep inelastic scattering in high-energy physics, intended for graduate students and physicists new to the subject. It covers the classic results which led to the quark-parton model of hadrons and the establishment of quantum chromodynamics as the theory of the strong nuclear force, in addition to new vistas in the subject opened up by the electron-proton collider HERA. The extraction of parton momentum distribution functions, a key input for physics at hadron colliders such as the Tevatron at Fermi Lab and the Large Hadron Collider at CERN, is described in detail. The challenges of the HERA data at 'low x' are described and possible explanations in terms of gluon dynamics and other models outlined. Other chapters cover: jet production at large momentum transfer and the determination of the strong coupling constant, electroweak interactions at very high momentum transfers, the extension of deep inelastic techniques to include hadronic probes, a summary of fully polarised inelastic scattering and the spin structure of the nucleon, and finally a brief account of methods in searching for signals 'beyond the standard model'.
Book Synopsis Deep Inelastic Scattering by : Wesley H. Smith
Download or read book Deep Inelastic Scattering written by Wesley H. Smith and published by American Institute of Physics. This book was released on 2005-10-20 with total page 1132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: DIS 2005 is the 13th in a series of annual workshops on Deep Inelastic Scattering (DIS) and Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD). The aim of these workshops is to review the progress in the field of DIS and QCD and to discuss and lay the groundwork for the future. DIS 2005 brought together 280 experimentalists and theorists to discuss the latest theoretical developments and new experimental results from HERA, TeVatron, SLAC, CERN, RHIC and Jefferson Lab.

Book Synopsis Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies by : Richard Brenner
Download or read book Lepton and Photon Interactions at High Energies written by Richard Brenner and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2006 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Lepton-Photon symposiums ? as represented by the contributions in this volume ? are among the most popular conferences in high energy physics since they give an in-depth snapshots of the status of the field as provided by leading experts. The volume covers the latest results on flavor factories, quantum chromodynamics (QCD), electroweak physics, dark matter searches, neutrino physics and cosmology, from a phenomenological point of view. It also offers a glimpse of the immediate future of the field through summaries on the status of the next generation of high energy accelerators and planned facilities for astroparticle physics. The review nature of the articles makes the volume particularly useful to students, as well as being of interest to established researches in high-energy physics and related fields.

Book Synopsis Soft Multihadron Dynamics by : W. Kittel
Download or read book Soft Multihadron Dynamics written by W. Kittel and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2005 with total page 670 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book gives a comprehensive account of the development and present status of the field of soft (i.e. non-perturbative) phenomena encountered in the production of (multi-) hadronic final states by the collision of various types of particles at high energies. Phenomenological models used to describe the data are in general inspired by Quantum Chromo Dynamics (QCD) and the book repeatedly crosses the border — if at all existent — between soft (non-perturbative) and hard (perturbative) QCD.
