Some two thousand years later, people are still confused about the term "born again," though more people than ever claim to have had the experience. In this booklet, Dr. R.C. Sproul cuts through the confusion and carefully explains what it means to be born again. Dr. Sproul affirms that the new birth is essential for salvation and goes on to show that this regeneration is a sovereign work of God in our hearts. The Crucial Questions booklet series by Dr. R.C. Sproul offers succinct answers to important questions often asked by Christians and thoughtful inquirers.

Book excerpt: BORN AGAIN TRUTHS Born into the bondage of the LDS Religion-- Born-again of the Spirit through God's Mercy and Grace "When I studied LDS history and doctrines against the Bible, seeking truth to help my questioning child, I found deceits and occult origins that would lead me out as well. I took my petitions to God, pouring out my heart to Him, and pleading for direction. I could see that I had caused God sorrow. I told Him that I was sorry for following man and promised Him that "from this day forward, it will be me, Jesus Christ, and You, God" (speaking to the Father.) Miraculously, God allowed me to witness my rebirth, as He instantly peeled the bondage I had been under, off of me before my eyes! A grayish matter fell away from me, heavy toward the ground, then dissipated. I heard my lungs fill up with a gasp as God breathed into me. A brightness then immersed me as God filled me with the Holy Spirit. Such joy, peace, and a feeling of freedom I had never known enveloped me! The scenery about me became vivid--the outlines of the mountainous terrain were instantly crisp and clear. I knew that my eyes had been opened; I was forever changed, and there would be no going back. God heard my feeble prayer, has saved me from spiritual blindness, given me new birth, and sealed me His by the Holy Spirit--forever!" -Author Kay is a wife, mother, and grandmother who enjoys family activities, reading, painting, photography, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the author of the bestselling novel The Shack and the New York Times bestsellers Cross Roads and Eve comes a compelling, conversational exploration of twenty-eight assumptions about God—assumptions that just might be keeping us from experiencing His unconditional, all-encompassing love. In his wildly popular novels, Wm. Paul Young portrayed the Triune God in ways that challenged our thinking—sometimes upending long-held beliefs, but always centered in the eternal, all-encompassing nature of God’s love. Now, in Wm. Paul Young’s first nonfiction book, he invites us to revisit our assumptions about God—this time using the Bible, theological discussion, and personal anecdotes. Paul encourages us to think through beliefs we’ve presumed to be true and consider whether some might actually be false. Expounding on the compassion fans felt from the “Papa” portrayed in The Shack—now a major film starring Sam Worthington and Octavia Spencer—Paul encourages you to think anew about important issues including sin, religion, hell, politics, identity, creation, human rights, and helping us discover God’s deep and abiding love.

But what happens when someone thinks he or she is a Christian, but isn't? With his witty, engaging style, Mike McKinley takes readers on a journey of what it means to be a Christian. He asserts that "manipulative evangelism techniques and a poor understanding of the gospel have resulted in an abundance of professing Christians who have no idea what it means to follow Christ." Each chapter title begins with "You're not a Christian [if/when/just because you]..." As he surveys what it means to be Christian, McKinley offers criteria for evaluating one's standing before God. Readers are guided through a series of challenges to reflect, repent, remember, and report to another person. Am I Really a Christian? ends with chapters on salvation and the local church. This unique book is written for nominal or new Christians and can be used in personal or small-group study.

Book excerpt: Born into my loving Mormon family, I was taught I had the only true church on the face of the earth; But, I was born again into God's family by His mercy and grace-I'm a 'newborn' Christian! I believed that my former Mormon belief system was Jesus Christ's gospel, I was obedient and active from my childhood. I never questioned anything, as we were warned not to by our leaders. I believed the founder and self-appointed 'prophet' Joseph Smith Jr. on down through the hierarchy of subsequent 'prophets'. We were told that once our leaders have spoken, "the thinking is done." We were called to follow them; to Revere them as the 'mouthpieces' of God Himself. Joseph Smith Jr. boasted that he is the Latter-day prophet God called to 'restore' the true church to the earth because Jesus couldn't keep His church together. Amazingly, new members have been recruited daily. It wasn't my fault for being born into the bondage of a false prophet, but it was my fault for not reasoning with God Himself, as He beckons all to do in His only book-the Bible. I see now that I did have questions, like "why would a loving God take what seems to be a perfectly good religion, and add something so hurtful and ugly to women as polygamy? We were taught polygamy would come back someday, and the Mormon religion would rule the world. In blind obedience, I swallowed the unbearable emotional pain the thought of sharing my husband with other women brought. I simply continued to breath; oddly, even having to swallow the pain over and over again through the years never made me disloyal to my Mormon Faith. Thankfully, God, who had me in His capable and all sufficient love from the time He wove me in my mother's womb, saved me from the bondage of terrible damning lies- polygamy, polyandry, polytheism, Freemasonry, works-earned-salvation, and every other anti-Christ teaching within Mormonism's web of deceits. Sadly, I raised my children in them! My rebirth labor pains began with the study of the true history of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We were never pulpit-taught about Joseph practicing polygamy. When I found out I had been lied to, I went right to Joseph Smith Jr.'s own church history, getting the facts "straight from the horses mouth", so to speak. I then studied the journals of his 33 known polygamous and polyandrous wives. He took 11 other men's wives in his practice of "spiritual wifery!";See LDS scriptures, D & C 132.) I was satisfied of the truth of these sad histories. I then studied the dark diversion in Freemasonry. I knew I had been deceived by man, and I had to approach God to get my answers straight from Him. I could trust no one at that point. While camping with my husband one lovely Fall day, I looked out the window of our trailer and into the sky. I knew God was out there and that He loved me. I poured my heart out to him in prayer. In so many words, I apologized for hurting Him. I told Him that I had studied Mormonism's history, and that I believed the facts; I realized I had been deceived and was in need of His direction, if He wanted me and my family to leave. I squared my shoulders and earnestly promised God that "from this moment on, it will be me, Jesus Christ, and you God." Miraculously, I saw and felt the bondage, a greyish matter, burst off from me and through the glass window of our trailer, shattering to pieces as it tumbled down to the earth! Without a moment to ponder, I heard my lungs fill with a gasp, but I had not taken a breath! Then the brightness came upon me and filled me with the most indescribable LOVE, PEACE, and FREEDOM I had ever felt! God had answered my prayer! I was born again of the Holy Spirit, exactly like the Word, Jesus Christ of the Bible promises the believer in Him alone for their salvation! Hebrews 1:1-2. Precious, believe only Jesus!

Currie received a degree from Trinity International University and studied in the Masters of Divinity program. This book was written as an explanation to his fundamentalist and evangelical friends and family about why he became a Roman Catholic. Currie presents a very lucid, systematic and intelligible account of the reasons for his conversion to the ancient Church that Christ founded. He gives a detailed discussion of the important theological and doctrinal beliefs Catholic and evangelicals hold in common, as well as the key doctrines that separate us, particularly the Eucharist, the Pope, and Mary.

Book excerpt: A startling exploration of the history of the most controversial book of the Bible, by the bestselling author of Beyond Belief. Through the bestselling books of Elaine Pagels, thousands of readers have come to know and treasure the suppressed biblical texts known as the Gnostic Gospels. As one of the world's foremost religion scholars, she has been a pioneer in interpreting these books and illuminating their place in the early history of Christianity. Her new book, however, tackles a text that is firmly, dramatically within the New Testament canon: The Book of Revelation, the surreal apocalyptic vision of the end of the world . . . or is it? In this startling and timely book, Pagels returns The Book of Revelation to its historical origin, written as its author John of Patmos took aim at the Roman Empire after what is now known as "the Jewish War," in 66 CE. Militant Jews in Jerusalem, fired with religious fervor, waged an all-out war against Rome's occupation of Judea and their defeat resulted in the desecration of Jerusalem and its Great Temple. Pagels persuasively interprets Revelation as a scathing attack on the decadence of Rome. Soon after, however, a new sect known as "Christians" seized on John's text as a weapon against heresy and infidels of all kinds-Jews, even Christians who dissented from their increasingly rigid doctrines and hierarchies. In a time when global religious violence surges, Revelations explores how often those in power throughout history have sought to force "God's enemies" to submit or be killed. It is sure to appeal to Pagels's committed readers and bring her a whole new audience who want to understand the roots of dissent, violence, and division in the world's religions, and to appreciate the lasting appeal of this extraordinary text.

Book excerpt: Heaven and Hell are futuristic, not currently real, but men's spirits, religion, fear, born-again and heavenly joy are. Men's spirits are dead. That's why men in general cannot have any realistic spiritual understandings and easily devoured by religion. They are born into this world physically, carrying the corpses of spirits. That's also why all men have fear. Fear is the smell of a spirit-corpse. Men of fear, religion and the knowledge of good and evil are not qualified to be in Paradise Regained, but are destined to be thrown into the Hell-fire; the final cleaning step of re-creation. To be freed from fear, religion and the ominous knowledge of good and evil, men must be born-again. It's the only task that all men must have it realized during their life time. It's not the task of men, but God-Almighty's that should be accomplished and realized, never by men's efforts, but totally by God the Father's. Born-again is never man's work, never religious. Man, not as animal-kind, cannot die individually. All men had died, as a whole, at the first death, and will die again at the second universal event of death at the end of human history. Genuine life and death, having nothing to do with existence, are spiritual, not physical as with animals. Man will exist forever either dead or alive. God desires to make all men be born-again with their revived spirits to be qualified for His newly created Kingdom. For God to make a man born-again, man needs to know some basic historical information to be motivated for His re-creation. All natural men, spiritually-dead, are just 'dust'. God needs 'dust' for His new creation of man; not living-dust, which is improbable, but just dead 'dust'. God gave Adam the life, which was spiritual and genuine. But Satan, in the body of a serpent, gave him the knowledge of good and evil. There's something that men must give up to acquire the eternal life, that is, the Satanic knowledge of good and evil, not to speak of all its applications. All religious merits must be denied totally, which are nothing else but the Tower of Babel designed and being built by men based on the Satanic knowledge of good and evil. The Truth that all men must know to be freed by from 'fear of death' is hidden in the jungle of thoughts and history in the Bible. ------------------------ This book is a book of challenge; the challenge of God the Father, the perfect irresistible almighty Love. It'll show whether the Heavenly gate is really open wide or not, and guide any sincere and honest reader to be led into the grasp of the expecting Spirit of the Father who has gone crazy for re-gaining His Own back into His possession from the tenacious grasp of the Serpent; the roaring lion. ------------------------- TITLES: Philosophy, religion, science and logic; Existentialism and Cross; Philosophy of Jesus; The core, the secret of the Bible; The knowledge of good and evil-the shackle; Conquering death; Universal event of the Cross; Contents of faith; Miss-application of 'faith without works'; What is the will of God; Possessing or living; Absurdity of keeping the Law; Freedom to sin; Weakness of God; Adam and Jesus; Judas Iscariot the Jew; Repentance-denial of the knowledge of good and evil; Citizenship of His Kingdom; War of reasoning; Words of revival.
