Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revolutionary new look into the unique world of living with a Boerboel; a MUST-READ that includes practical tips, tricks, and insights to help a new (or seasoned) Boerboel owner. Using interviews with 8 top Boerboel breeders, author and experienced owner Desiree Botha has created an in-depth look at what it REALLY takes to successfully live with, raise, and train a Boerboel. Covering all the Boerboel-specific topics you NEED TO KNOW, such as: The unique characteristics and quirks of Boerboels Early training (including housebreaking) strategies for Boerboels Choosing the optimal supplies and food for a Boerboel puppy Helpful strategies for socializing a Boerboel with other dogs Health care advice for each stage of your Boerboel’s life If you are considering bringing a Boerboel into your home (or already have!) then you need to read this book as soon as possible! In The Complete Guide to Boerboels you will learn everything you need to know from start to finish; how to choose the right Boerboel, training, traveling, grooming, health care, and senior care. You will also learn all about the background of the breed, its history, breed pre-disposed diseases, and special traits. Find answers to common questions like: Is a Boerboel the right dog for me? I brought my Boerboel home. What now? How can I best train my Boerboel? What are some common mistakes should I avoid? Whether you are a veteran Boerboel owner, or new to the breed, there will be something for everyone in this book. A note from author Desiree Botha: From the moment that my parents laid my first Boerboel pup in my arms, I was in love with the breed. I was also only two at the time, so I have to admit that I would have fallen in love with any puppy that I had the privilege to hold. But my love affair with the Boerboel breed has continued throughout my life right from that moment on. These massive, extremely intelligent and fiercely protective dogs are impossible not to love. Yet, the things that make them great can also become a new pet-parents biggest challenge. If you don’t know what to expect from your new Boerboel puppy it can cause a lot of unnecessary challenges. And maybe even some heartache. So come with me as I share some of the things that I have learnt through the years with you. I have many Boerboels that I have loved and eventually lost, and along the way I have learnt a thing or two. So by sharing this knowledge with new and prospective Boerboel owners, I hope I can give you the best chance to create a lasting bond and a really happy life for both you and your Boerboel puppy.

Book excerpt: The Boerboel is a gigantic canine and unimaginably solid. They weigh as much as Great Danes, despite the fact that they are fundamentally more limited in height. There is a lot of theory about which breeds were reproduced together to make the cutting edge Boerboel, yet their definite lineage isn't notable.

Book excerpt: From the author of The World of Fighting Dogs and Pit Bulls and Tenacious Guard Dogs comes this third and most impressive book to date, Gladiator Dogs. Bringing to life 13 breeds originally used as fighting dogs, Dr. Carl Semencic illustrates the history, characteristics and abilities of the world's toughest canines, and shares hundreds of great color photographs of top dogs sent by owners around the globe. The author does not fight dogs and does not condone dogfighting, but he is fascinated with the qualities and instincts of these fearless gladiator breeds. Gladiator Dogs is a valuable book that represents years of experience and research on these remarkable historical dogs. In addition to the author's favorite breed, the American Pit Bull Terrier, Dr. Semencic discusses other related breeds, such as the Staffordshire Bull Terrier, Bull Terrier and American Staffordshire Terrier, covering the differences and similarities between these bully cousins. A respected rare-breed authority and an accomplished world traveler, Dr. Semencic shares his firsthand experience with these dogs from his trips to the Canary Islands, South Africa, Europe, and more. Gladiator Dogs profiles many breeds that the author has introduced, mentored and promoted, including the American Bulldog, Canary Dog, South African Boerboel and Korean Jindo.

Book excerpt: The Boerboel is a very majestic dog who was given immense recognition and respect by some of the greatest rulers in the history of mankind; including Assurbanipal of Assyria and Alexander the Great. Now, if you want to feel like royalty, too, it is a good idea to bring home a Boerboel. However, before you do that, make sure you know everything about taking care of this rather unique breed. Having a giant dog like the Boerboel at home is no easy task. For anybody who has even owned a dog before understanding the right way to care for a dog like the Boerboel seems like a challenge. Most Mastiff owners would agree that the docile nature of the breed reduces the burden to a large extent. So if you are bringing home a Boerboel you must worry mostly about giving the dog proper care to ensure that he has a long, comfortable and healthy life, this book is all that you will need to refer to. With the wrong care, this dog can sometimes become aggressive. With the right care, he will be the most incredible addition to your family. This book is a complete pet owner's guide that covers all the concerns that a new Mastiff owner may have. This manual contains all the information you need, from birth to the Rainbow Bridge, including introducing the puppy to your family, transitioning through house breaking, care, feeding, training secrets and end of life, so that you can make a well-informed decision about whether or not the Neapolitan Mastiff is the breed for you. If you already have a Boerboel, this book will tell you how to keep your dog happy and how to make you a happy dog owner. Harry Holstone, the author, is a dog lover and Boerboel owner.

This book was released on 2015-08-14 with total page 28 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book (Boerboels) provides you with a through description and positive attributes of this breed including origin, purpose, history, normal heights and weights, acceptable colors and behavioral traits. Our books differ from most books on dog breeds because this book also provides you with a comprehensive and authoritative source of all the known predisposed hereditary health syndromes for the breed. You will find extensive references for each problem described. We also provide the breed club address for this breed and a list of laboratories and organizations that can provide professional help and information. As a small animal veterinarian, I have always been intrigued by the way dogs have been bred to fill a purpose in life and further impressed that they also tend to love performing that service. Greyhounds and other sight hounds are built for speed with aerodynamic bodies consisting of small head, deep chest, narrow waist and large leg muscles. On the other hand Dachshunds take their name from German words meaning badger dog and they use their long nose, long body and short legs to both track, enter and dig into badger dens. After developing a practice that catered to clients with show dogs, my interest in each breed continued to grow as I studied and observed more and more about the unique predisposition and incidence of health problems in each breed. Breeders of purebred dogs for show were a challenge and inspirational for me to research and help them with their unique health problems. Historically references to hereditary problems are scattered throughout various Veterinary medical texts and journals such as ophthalmology, neurology, gastroenterology, cardiovascular and dermatology. This book, as well as the other books and articles I have written, is researched and compiled with the intention to provide both veterinarians and dog owners with comprehensive and authoritative predisposition information under the breed name. At the date of this publication, The American Kennel Club Canine Health Foundation and the The Kennel Club of England reports over 400 known hereditary health syndromes throughout the dog kingdom. At the writing of my first book in 1983, less than 50 hereditary issues are able to be predicted and or diagnosed. Sequencing of the canine genome, DNA tests, metabolic testing including blood tests and urine testing; plus, phenotypic examinations such as radiographs, ultrasound, and CERF or OFA eye registry exams by a Board Certified Veterinary Ophthalmologist have advanced the science of breed related health and behavioral problems. This book will provide veterinarians, researchers, pet owners and breeders with a comprehensive guide to all the known problems veterinarians and dog owners should consider during pet selection and throughout each life stage of our canine friends.
