Book excerpt: When Gaylord Riley walked away from the Coburn gang, he had money and a dream. He worked hard and built a cabin, gathered a herd of cattle, and fell in love with Marie Shattuck. But when he is confronted with false accusations of rustling and murder, Riley is forced to defend his new law-abiding way of life. Outnumbered and facing a lynching party, Riley is surprised when his old friends return to lend him a hand. But how can they help him and keep themselves out of jail? With the local marshal already suspicious of Riley, the Coburn gang will have to plan well and move fast. But that shouldn’t be a problem. Their reputation was built by doing just that.

Download or read book Deep Black written by Robb Magley and published by Western Reflections Publishing Company. This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Colorado's Black Canyon, the nation's newest National Park, is steeper and narrower than the Grand Canyon. There are many places where dangerous rapids fill the entire space between the walls. The Black Canyon was not conquered until 1901 when William Torrence and Abraham Lincoln Fellows completed the first full passage of the canyon using a rubber boat for some portions of the trip. Robb Magley traces the unique history of the Black Canyon, but not content with archival research, the author and a friend took their own adventure on foot through thirty-three miles of the narrow canyon. The adventure required seventy- six river crossings and almost cost them their lives.?We had no food, and no way to purify drinking water. The sun was going down, and we had nothing but shorts, t-shirts, and life jackets to keep us warm. The only piece of gear either of us had left was our river knives, clipped to our life vests in the event we had to free ourselves from a fouled rope. The canyon was getting darker, and we had run out of options.?
