As indicated in a previous submission to the BEARP panel during the Inuvik General session, the primary objective of the first workshop held in May, 1983 was to develop a simulation model for the biophysical environment as a tool to focus interdisciplinary communication and information exchange amongst the 50 participants in the project. The underlying objective of the second workshop (November 28 - December 2, 1983) was the establishment of preliminary research and monitoring priorities, through a detailed, interdisciplinary examination of twenty-one hypotheses regarding the potential impacts of hydrocarbon development on the 'Valued Ecosystem Components' of the Beaufort Sea. Documentation of the results of this latter workshop is now being completed and the report is expected to be ready for distribution by 1 March 1984. Consequently, this summary must be regarded as preliminary and subject to revision. The hypotheses, conclusions, and proposed research and monitoring that were discussed in the second workshop are summarized further in Table 1" -- page [3].
