Book Synopsis Bible Controversies Resolved by : Roy D Perkins
Download or read book Bible Controversies Resolved written by Roy D Perkins and published by Page Publishing Inc. This book was released on 2023-05-24 with total page 306 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book consists of sixty-two chapters of Bible controversies resolved with total objectivity by the writer. Subjective feelings were left out. The writer speaks of the most taboo of subjects. Pastors and theologians have argued these controversies for centuries. In actuality, these controversies are not controversies at all; people just made arguments out of what they believe are questionable. This book explains, in plain language, these issues that have become so argumentative. The writer is “on board” with almost all of them; he disagrees with about 2 percent of these issues but cannot argue with scriptural truths. When discerning facts from fiction concerning these issues, the writer successfully suppresses his subjective feelings and is willing to admit that his prior thinking might not have been correct; he can admit when he is wrong. Most people cannot do this because of pride, stubbornness, tradition, the clergy, and ignorance. In this book, the writer attempts to open the eyes, ears, and minds of the readers. Just because churches have done it the same way for centuries, it doesn’t make the churches right. Just because a bunch of PhDs and theological experts have put their stamps of approval on the issues, it doesn’t make them right. PhD stands for “piled higher and deeper.” Someone once said that the definition of an expert is “one who learns more and more about less and less; pretty soon, he knows everything about nothing.” In the book, the writer backs up what he says with scriptural references. In the book, the reader can explore one revelation after another about supposedly controversial subjects.

Book Synopsis Bible Problems Solved by Early Christians by : David W. T. Brattston
Download or read book Bible Problems Solved by Early Christians written by David W. T. Brattston and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2020-10-13 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with questions or problems encountered in the Bible where answers can be found in the ante-Nicene fathers. The fathers were uniquely qualified by being close in time and culture to Christ himself, when his unwritten teachings and Scripture interpretations, and those of the apostles, were still fresh in Christian memory. It is designed for sincere readers of the Bible who may from time to time be puzzled by the occasional passage which seems out-of-step with the rest of the Scriptures or our usual impression of Christian teaching. This work is written for individual and group Bible students without advanced theological qualifications, rather than the intellectual market. It is written for use in Bible studies in local congregations, or church history classes, especially in sessions when the pastor or teacher is unable to attend. Bible Problems Solved by Early Christians is different from almost all other works and ministries, which give solutions to problems or questions, because the answers in the book come not from a modern-day comparison of different verses within the Bible itself or from the interpretations of any particular religious denomination, but from Christian writers who lived in the first centuries after Jesus.

Book Synopsis Defending Inerrancy by : Norman L. Geisler
Download or read book Defending Inerrancy written by Norman L. Geisler and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2012-01-01 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: According to the authors, the doctrine of inerrancy has been standard, accepted teaching for more than 1,000 years. In 1978, the famous "Chicago Statement" on inerrancy was adopted by the Evangelical Theological Society, and for decades it has been the accepted conservative evangelical doctrine of the Scriptures. However, in recent years, some prominent evangelical authors have challenged this statement in their writings. Now eminent apologist and bestselling author Norman L. Geisler, who was one of the original drafters of the "Chicago Statement," and his coauthor, William C. Roach, present a defense of the traditional understanding of inerrancy for a new generation of Christians who are being assaulted with challenges to the nature of God, truth, and language. Pastors, students, and armchair theologians will appreciate this clear, reasoned response to the current crisis.
Download or read book Gospelbound written by Collin Hansen and published by Multnomah. This book was released on 2021-04-06 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A profound exploration of how to hold on to hope when our unchanging faith collides with a changing culture, from two respected Christian storytellers and thought leaders. “Offers neither spin control nor image maintenance for the evangelical tribe, but genuine hope.”—Russell Moore, president of ERLC As the pressures of health warnings, economic turmoil, and partisan politics continue to rise, the influence of gospel-focused Christians seems to be waning. In the public square and popular opinion, we are losing our voice right when it’s needed most for Christ’s glory and the common good. But there’s another story unfolding too—if you know where to look. In Gospelbound, Collin Hansen and Sarah Eekhoff Zylstra counter these growing fears with a robust message of resolute hope for anyone hungry for good news. Join them in exploring profound stories of Christians who are quietly changing the world in the name of Jesus—from the wild world of digital media to the stories of ancient saints and unsung contemporary activists on the frontiers of justice and mercy. Discover how, in these dark times, the light of Jesus shines even brighter. You haven’t heard the whole story. And that’s good news.
Book Synopsis The Unshakeable Truth by : Dr. Steven Catalano
Download or read book The Unshakeable Truth written by Dr. Steven Catalano and published by Christian Faith Publishing, Inc.. This book was released on 2019-10-28 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Unshakable Truth is a nondenominational Christian guide to inner peace, based on true biblical facts. A system of cross-referencing is used to quote multiple scriptures to provide the believer with the truth in God's instruction from His written Word. With divine inspiration, I clarify all the confusion to the questions asked: Was Jesus Christ the Son of God? Is there really the Trinity? Is there only one God? As Christians today, are we expected to live under the Ten Commandments or abide in the blood covenant of Jesus Christ crucified? Do Christians of today live by sight or faith? What does it mean to live in faith, love, and blood and fear? Is there really a history and message of the cross, or is it just a shocking holy thing? I have answered these questions and more, through biblical facts and revelation from God. I can tell you that God does have a prescribed order for Christian living today and that God spoke to Jesus and that there is only one God and none like God.
Book Synopsis The New Cambridge History of the Bible: Volume 2, From 600 to 1450 by : Richard Marsden
Download or read book The New Cambridge History of the Bible: Volume 2, From 600 to 1450 written by Richard Marsden and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2012-04-26 with total page 1254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume examines the development and use of the Bible from late Antiquity to the Reformation, tracing both its geographical and its intellectual journeys from its homelands throughout the Middle East and Mediterranean and into northern Europe. Richard Marsden and E. Ann Matter's volume provides a balanced treatment of eastern and western biblical traditions, highlighting processes of transmission and modes of exegesis among Roman and Orthodox Christians, Jews and Muslims and illuminating the role of the Bible in medieval inter-religious dialogue. Translations into Ethiopic, Slavic, Armenian and Georgian vernaculars, as well as Romance and Germanic, are treated in detail, along with the theme of allegorized spirituality and established forms of glossing. The chapters take the study of Bible history beyond the cloisters of medieval monasteries and ecclesiastical schools to consider the influence of biblical texts on vernacular poetry, prose, drama, law and the visual arts of East and West.

Book Synopsis Matthew and the Mishnah by : Akiva Cohen
Download or read book Matthew and the Mishnah written by Akiva Cohen and published by Mohr Siebeck. This book was released on 2016-06-10 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Akiva Cohen investigates the general research question: how do the authors of religious texts reconstruct their community identity and ethos in the absence of their central cult? His particular socio-historical focus of this more general question is: how do the respective authors of the Gospel according to Matthew, and the editor(s) of the Mishnah redefine their group identities following the destruction of the Second Temple? Cohen further examines how, after the Destruction, both the Matthean and the Mishnaic communities found and articulated their renewed community bearings and a new sense of vision through each of their respective author/redactor's foundational texts. The context of this study is thus that of an inner-Jewish phenomenon; two Jewish groups seeking to (re-)establish their community identity and ethos without the physical temple that had been the cultic center of their cosmos.

Book Synopsis When God Spoke Greek by : Timothy Michael Law
Download or read book When God Spoke Greek written by Timothy Michael Law and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 2013-08-15 with total page 229 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most readers do not know about the Bible used almost universally by early Christians, or about how that Bible was birthed, how it grew to prominence, and how it differs from the one used as the basis for most modern translations. Although it was one of the most important events in the history of our civilization, the translation of the Hebrew Scriptures into Greek in the third century BCE is an event almost unknown outside of academia. Timothy Michael Law offers the first book to make this topic accessible to a wider audience. Retrospectively, we can hardly imagine the history of Christian thought, and the history of Christianity itself, without the Old Testament. When the Emperor Constantine adopted the Christian faith, his fusion of the Church and the State ensured that the Christian worldview (which by this time had absorbed Jewish ideals that had come to them through the Greek translation) would leave an imprint on subsequent history. This book narrates in a fresh and exciting way the story of the Septuagint, the Greek Scriptures of the ancient Jewish Diaspora that became the first Christian Old Testament.
