Book excerpt: In the fall of 1911, Alexandre Lautens, an ambitious French philologist, sweeps into a remote part of India to study the Telugu language. Hosted by a local wealthy landowner and his family, Lautens arrives at a moment of change for the Adivis: Mohini, the younger and strikingly beautiful daughter is about to marry, an act which will inevitably condem her older sister, who suffers from being plain and disfigured, to spinsterhood. Intellectually curious by nature, the elder sister Anjali is beguiled by Lautens, and as they find an intimacy within language, an unexpected relationship develops. After Anjali confesses that her disfigurement – a lasting injury from polio – has kept her from swimming since her childhood, Lautens surprises her with a trip to the beach. Regardless of what might have happened between them, Adivi is outraged when he hears word of their outing. Thinking his daughter a tramp and Lautens a predator, both are swiftly kicked out, left to fend for themselves—separately—as they try to navigate what really happened. Lautens returns to France, never sure if he should have remained part of Anjali's life. Anjali flees too, seeking a life of political activism she never knew possible. Despite a life brimming with independence and bravery, Anjali never loses sight of the man who, however briefly, filled her heart.

This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 188 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The construction of the past, as a historical agenda, figured prominently in the attempt of intellectuals to modernize society. They realized the importance of being sensitive to their past, which had been misrepresented by colonial rule. The investigation of the past to perceive the present and to conceive a future became integral to their intellectual endeavour. To use K.N. Panikkhar's words, "the intellectual quest in colonial India, engaged in an enquiry into the meaning of the past and thus in an assessment of its relevance to contemporary society, was an outcome of this awareness''. The construction of the past, was initially viewed as pre-requisite to reform. It subsequently turned out to be part of an ant-colonial agenda to retrieve a lost identity. This agenda become very vocal as the national movement reached its mass phase.

Book Synopsis God as Feminine by : Joseph Sebastian
Download or read book God as Feminine written by Joseph Sebastian and published by Peter Lang Gmbh, Internationaler Verlag Der Wissenschaften. This book was released on 1995 with total page 488 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This systematic theological study aims at bringing the Feminity of God into inter-religious dialogue between Hinduism and Christianity. Since the arena of Hindu traditions is very vast, a particular Hindu poet-bhakta Subramania Bharati (1882-1921), known for his theology of Sakti in Hinduism, is chosen. Through a close and scientific study of his writings the Hindu vision of divine feminine is established. Following that Christian vision of God as feminine is elaborately studied by analysing critically the important texts from the Bible, from the writings of the church fathers and mystics and particularly of the showings of Julian of Norwich. As the outcome of the dialogue between these two religions, the urgent need for an inclusive God-language in Christianity is proposed.
