Book Synopsis The Theory and Practice of Scintillation Counting by : J. B. Birks
Download or read book The Theory and Practice of Scintillation Counting written by J. B. Birks and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 685 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Theory and Practice of Scintillation Counting is a comprehensive account of the theory and practice of scintillation counting. This text covers the study of the scintillation process, which is concerned with the interactions of radiation and matter; the design of the scintillation counter; and the wide range of applications of scintillation counters in pure and applied science. The book is easy to read despite the complex nature of the subject it attempts to discuss. It is organized such that the first five chapters illustrate the fundamental concepts of scintillation counting. Chapters 6 to 10 detail the properties and applications of organic scintillators, while the next four chapters discuss inorganic scintillators. The last two chapters provide a review of some outstanding problems and a postscript. Nuclear physicists, radiation technologists, and postgraduate students of nuclear physics will find the book a good reference material.

Book Synopsis Military Field Expedient Shielding Experiment by : D. M. Wheeler
Download or read book Military Field Expedient Shielding Experiment written by D. M. Wheeler and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Experimental data were obtained on neutron and gamma-ray attenuation and on neutron activation for representative field materials and on air scattering of radiation. Field materials tested were dry sand, wet sand, clay, limestone, water, a soil mixture, and pine wood. Results of the experiments showed the following: of the materials tested a given thickness afforded more fast-neutron attenuation than gamma-ray attenuation. Secondary-gamma-ray production in expedient materials is an important consideration dependent on the water (hydrogen) content in the material.

Book Synopsis Atoms, Radiation, and Radiation Protection by : James E. Turner
Download or read book Atoms, Radiation, and Radiation Protection written by James E. Turner and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2008-01-08 with total page 606 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Atoms, Radiation, and Radiation Protection offers professionals and advanced students a comprehensive coverage of the major concepts that underlie the origins and transport of ionizing radiation in matter. Understanding atomic structure and the physical mechanisms of radiation interactions is the foundation on which much of the current practice of radiological health protection is based. The work covers the detection and measurement of radiation and the statistical interpretation of the data. The procedures that are used to protect man and the environment from the potential harmful effects of radiation are thoroughly described. Basic principles are illustrated with an abundance of worked examples that exemplify practical applications. Chapters include problem sets (with partial answers) and extensive tables and graphs for continued use as a reference work. This completely revised and enlarged third edition includes thorough updates of the material, including the latest recommendations of the ICRP and NCRP.
Book Synopsis Understanding Pore Space through Log Measurements by : K. Meenakshi Sundaram
Download or read book Understanding Pore Space through Log Measurements written by K. Meenakshi Sundaram and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-11-26 with total page 876 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book Understanding Pore Space through Log Measurements deals with porosity, insight on pore shape connectedness, grain size, grain aspect ratio, permeability etc. Most of the published literature is focused on permeability from log measurements and log analytic techniques for porosity and fluid saturation determination. On the other hand, this book aims at looking at porosity distribution, pore shape, and pore connectedness using log measurements and thus bringing pore space into focus. A compilation of available knowledge from this perspective will lead the reader to better understanding of reservoir characterization takeaways, which exploration and exploitation managers and workers will be looking for. - Offers insight into influence of pore attributes on macroscopic pore space descriptors - Grain characters that influence the properties of the pore space - Guides on how to best model the inversion of log data into these attributes
