Book excerpt: Beyond the Sangres is a family saga that tells of the life long struggle of Zan and Liette to reconcile their heritage with the forces that run rough shod over their lives in the later half of the twentieth century. Beyond the Sangres reveals what happens to people of mixed ancestry when they are entangled by ties to divergent cultures. This powerful first Novel is a tale about the failure and success of adaptation and the creation of a new ethnicity. It is a story of love: love of the land, love of country, love of a lost way of life, and the love of a woman and man for each other. The heroism of human longing and the anguish of revolution set the stage in Beyond the Sangres for rebirth in a new creation. 'Beyond the Sangre' reveals an America that few know, but many long for. This book is as enigmatic as its title and and has layer upon layer of meaning. If you want a unique read about a yet to be discovered America, read 'Beyond the Sangres.'

Book excerpt: In the early morning hours of May 18, 1944 the Russian army, under orders from Stalin, deported the entire Crimean Tatar population from their historical homeland. Given only fifteen minutes to gather their belongings, they were herded into cattle cars bound for Soviet Central Asia. Although the official Soviet record was cleansed of this affair and the name of their ethnic group was erased from all records and official documents, Crimean Tatars did not assimilate with other groups or disappear. This is an ethnographic study of the negotiation of social memory and the role this had in the growth of a national repatriation movement among the Crimean Tatars. It examines the recollections of the Crimean Tatars, the techniques by which they are produced and transmitted and the formation of a remarkably uniform social memory in light of their dispersion throughout Central Asia. Through the lens of social memory, the book covers not only the deportation and life in the diaspora but the process by which the children and grandchildren of the deportees 'returned' and anchored themselves in the Crimean Penininsula, a place they had never visited.

Held at his mercy and forced to endure his fury, Ada can’t resist the dark passion that seethes below Domino’s rage… Ten years after a devastating betrayal, revenge has come back to bite Ada Pavalos. Literally. Once her family’s trusted bodyguard, Domino Valenciaga is out for blood. Or her heart. Whichever goal takes more violence to achieve... Blood Ties As Ada adjusts to the hellish predicament she finds herself in, one thing becomes painfully clear—Domino isn’t the only monster with her life in his hands. And by no means is he the most dangerous. Jaguar brings with him a wealth of mystery—and violence—that threatens to rock what little ground with Domino she’s managed to gain. In the end, Ada will have to make a choice with both her life and her body on the line. Only one man can offer her mercy should he choose to. The other… Doom. If only she knew which fate would hurt less—losing her freedom, or losing her heart? Blood Bound Hunted by a dangerous enemy, Ada Pavalos is forced to place her faith—and her life—in the hands of the man who has been holding her captive in his own twisted bid for revenge. But the truce they’ve forged between them is fragile, impeded by Ada’s struggle to trust where Domino’s loyalties lie—because what if the deadliest threat isn’t Jaguar after all? What if it’s Domino who will destroy her in the end?

O'Sullivan and William Bell. These views, typical of the toned photolithographs published in Government reports, are striking scenes of the Western landscape, translated to this medium with a great deal of graphic richness. This title is also of prime importance because it lists every photographer for every one of the Government's surveys"--Hanson Collection catalog, p. 100.

Book excerpt: This collection of tales and traditions from the Southwest includes stories of lost mines stacked with bars of gold, mule loads of silver cached away in outlaw hoards, and fabulous Jesuit treasures buried when that order was expelled from New Spain. Some treasure locations would be rediscovered by chance or by an old map-and somehow always lost again. But not all these folk teasures are of material wealth. There is the story of a nun who loved a soldier and repented, and whose kneeling figure may still be seen as a mountain rock formation. There is the Hermit of Las Vegas, an actual person who, after traveling between Argentina and Quebec, settled in New Mexico, where he became the subject of affectionate legends.
