Book Synopsis Hell's Best Kept Secret by : Ray Comfort
Download or read book Hell's Best Kept Secret written by Ray Comfort and published by Whitaker House. This book was released on 2004-07-01 with total page 136 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How many souls have you won to Christ? How many are still walking with the Lord? All, some, a few? The facts are: Evangelical success is at an all-time low. We’re producing more backsliders than true converts. The fall-away rate—from large crusades to local churches—is between 80 to 90 percent. Why are so many unbelievers turning away from the message of the gospel? Doesn’t the Bible tell us how to bring sinners to true repentance? If so, where have we missed it? The answer may surprise you. One hundred years ago, Satan buried the crucial key needed to unlock the unbeliever’s heart. Now Ray Comfort boldly breaks away from modern tradition and calls for a return to biblical evangelism. If you’re experiencing evangelical frustration over lost souls, unrepentant sinners, and backslidden “believers,” then look no further. This radical approach could be the missing dimension needed to win our generation to Christ.

Book excerpt: Gangs of bloodthirsty and ruthless outlaws terrorized the American Southwest before and after Mexico ceded the land now called Texas. One such pack of thirty or forty cutthroats had what they thought was a perfectly impregnable hideout until a trio of U.S. Marshals was given the mission of bringing them to justice. These marshals were no barroom toughs, they'd been brought up church-going citizens, and all three had been schooled in the art of self-defense and survival. The leader of this outlaw gang made a fatal mistake when he ordered a rancher's beautiful virgin daughter kidnapped. His gunmen terrorized this beautiful maiden with a rattlesnake while threatening her with a life of abuse and humiliation at the hands of the outlaw boss. The boss of this lawless low-life gang of killers took great pride in using his blacksnake whip to maintain his unshakeable hold on his captives and even on the outlaws if they displeased him. He and his gang killed for the thrill of watching the innocent die. Members of this gang would lead the marshals on a chase throughout the Southwest and across the Rio Grande into Mexico, leaving a bloody trail of robbery and death.

Book Synopsis From Hell to Iowa by : Charles Notis
Download or read book From Hell to Iowa written by Charles Notis and published by Corn Publishing. This book was released on 2014-05-26 with total page 152 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “From Hell to Iowa” is about an incredible journey taken by Charles Notis. Charlie and his mother were separated from the rest of the family when the border between Albania and Greece was suddenly closed at the end of World War II when Charlie was less than a year old. Charlie’s father, older sister, grandmother, and uncle emigrated to the U.S., but Charlie and his mother were stuck in Albania for ten long years. Albania was more backward than a Third World country is today. It was under the ruthless dictatorship of Enver Hoxha, who cared more about building hundreds of thousands of machine gun bunkers to protect Albania against the bitter enemy, America, than he cared about the wellbeing of the population. In fact, he imprisoned or executed many thousands of innocent people. Charlie and his mother made a miraculous escape from this hell on earth in October 1954 and joined the rest of the family in Brockton, Massachusetts, in September 1955. While living in Massachusetts, the author experienced some incredible historical events that took place in the turbulent 1960s. One of these, the Vietnam War, is a very special event that greatly affected Charlie’s life. The author also acquired an amazing fascination with the weather soon after arriving in Brockton. This eventually led him to enroll at Iowa State University, where he received a master’s degree in meteorology. During graduate school at Iowa State, the author met a young lady who was majoring in mathematics, and he ended up marrying this beautiful lady. The fascinating story continues when Charlie along with Harvey Freese founded a weather consulting company called Freese-Notis Weather in Des Moines, Iowa. The contrast between where Charlie lived for the first ten years of his life compared to where he ended up, and everything that happened between, is appropriately titled, “From Hell to Iowa.”
Book Synopsis Hell's Half Acre by : Richard F. Selcer
Download or read book Hell's Half Acre written by Richard F. Selcer and published by Texas A&M University Press. This book was released on 1991-01-01 with total page 359 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Texas is a place where legends are made, die, and are revived. Fort Worth, Texas, claims its own legend – Hell’s Half Acre – a wild ’n woolly accumulation of bordellos, cribs, dance houses, saloons, and gambling parlors. Tenderloin districts were a fact of life in every major town in the American West, but Hell’s Half Acre – its myth and its reality – can be said to be a microcosm of them all. The most famous and infamous westerners visited the Acre: Timothy (“Longhair Jim”) Courtright, Luke Short, Bat Masterson, Wyatt Earp, Doc Holliday, Sam Bass, Mary Porter, Etta Place, along with Butch Cassidy and his Wild Bunch, and many more. For civic leaders and reformers, the Acre presented a dilemma – the very establishments they sought to close down or regulate were major contributors to the local economy. Controversial in its heyday and receiving new attention by such movies as Lonesome Dove, Hell’s Half Acre remains the subject of debate among historians and researchers today. Richard Selcer successfully separates fact from fiction, myth from reality, in this vibrant study of the men and women of Cowtown’s notorious Acre.

Book excerpt: A bounty hunter finds himself in the ultimate kill-or-be-killed showdown—from the national bestselling Western authors of A Time for Vultures. Raised in the wild. Armed to the teeth. Sam Flintlock is no ordinary bounty hunter. But sometimes even a man who sets traps for a living can step right into one. Sometimes the hunter becomes the hunted . . . One Week in Hell After crossing the dry Arizona desert—and missing six meals in a row—Sam Flintlock is flat-out desperate. For food. For work. For lodgings. Luckily he finds all three in the high timber country east of the Mogollon River. A very young and pretty heiress, Lucy Cullen, has an unusual proposition for the bounty hunter. She will pay him cold, hard cash to spend one full week in the gothic mansion of her murdered uncle. What’s the catch? The place is haunted . . . Flintlock ain’t afraid of the dead. It’s the living he’s more worried about—namely Hogan Forde, the murderous Texas gunslinger who just happens to be skulking around town. Toss in a few unfriendly locals and a missing treasure map, and you’ve got all the makings of a pretty terrifying campfire story. The difference is, these restless spirits are very much among the living, and they’ve got Flintlock slated for his own afterlife . . . Praise for the novels of William W. Johnstone “[A] rousing, two-fisted saga of the growing American frontier.”—Publishers Weekly on Eyes of Eagles “There’s plenty of gunplay and fast-paced action.”—Curled Up with a Good Book on Dead Before Sundown

Book excerpt: She was sitting in a café in Paris, showing nearly all her legs; in grave trouble, she was drinking her sixth green Chartreuse and wishing she knew someone who would kill her stepmother for her. She was just eighteen, a child emotionally but old in experience and duplicity. The man with the umbrella who sat down at her table seemed exactly the one for whom she was searching. They were both lonely and found in each other the playmate for which they had longed. He was a man caught in a monster trap; it was murder she wanted and murder she got.
