Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Years ago whole societies painted their histories which may take archaeologists and scholars countless hours to decipher, if they can even accomplish this marvelous feat. Soon the people began to use a new system, stories and spoken words. Their histories still exist, without miss-interpretations or incorrect translation. The stories themselves are immortal, but the author is only said to be but an elder who may or may not be remembered based on his greatness. Through my poetry I try to the best of my ability to express an emotion the way I am experiencing it right at that moment. Through the beauty of poetry if my works were read 100 years, from that emotion could be relived by anyone whoâs reading it. So the picture that my thousand words paint, wouldnât become yellowed by time, loose its glossy coat, or its fresh scent but exist brand new each time and become eternal. Through my gift I have attained immortality, as much as I can, as a human being.

This book was released on 2022-05-04 with total page 78 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Only through my hurt and pain have I come this far. My life has been no easy road as I traveled through it all. In realizing that in order to achieve the bigger picture, on must endure the hard in order to understand when the easy has shown. You cannot expect the reward if you can't handle what it took to get you there. I too had given up so many times and twice it was spoken otherwise. So if nothing else catches your eye, look to oneself and make that your healing point. I'm extremely far from where I came from but a long way to where I want to be. I'm a work in progress with you and together "WE" will win this silent war. Never forget those who have been there for those you just met. Patience

In the poets’ various treatments of things (that is, objects of art), one witnesses a confluence of the avant-garde interest in objecthood and the racial question of objectification."-- Back cover.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Hearing History is a long-needed introduction to the basic tenets of what is variously termed historical acoustemology, auditory culture, or aural history. Gathering twenty-one of the fields most important writings, this volume will deepen and broaden our understanding of changing perceptions of sound and hearing and the ongoing education of our senses. The essays stimulate thinking on key questions: What is aural history? Why has vision tended to triumph over hearing in historical accounts? How might we begin to reclaim the sounds of the past? With theoretical and practical essays on the history of sound and hearing in Europe and the United States, the book draws on historical approaches ranging from empiricism to postmodernism. Some essays show the historian of technology at work, others highlight how With theoretical and practical essays on the history of sound and hearing in Europe and the United States, the book draws on historical approaches ranging from empiricism to postmodernism. Some essays show the historian of technology at work, others highlight how military, social, intellectual, and cultural historians have tackled historical acoustemologies. Investigating soundscapes that include a Puritan meetinghouse in colonial New England, the belfries of a French village at the close of the Old Regime, the court hall of Elizabeth I, and a Civil War battlefield, the essays vary just as widely in their topics, which include noise as a marker of social and cultural differences, the privileging of music as the sound of art, the persistence of Aristotelian ideas of sound into the seventeenth century, developments in sound related to medical practice, the advent of sound-recording technology, and noise pollution.

This book was released on 2016-10-04 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “If John Berger’s Ways of Seeing is a classic of art criticism, looking at the ‘what’ of art, then David Salle’s How to See is the artist’s reply, a brilliant series of reflections on how artists think when they make their work. The ‘how’ of art has perhaps never been better explored.” —Salman Rushdie How does art work? How does it move us, inform us, challenge us? Internationally renowned painter David Salle’s incisive essay collection illuminates these questions by exploring the work of influential twentieth-century artists. Engaging with a wide range of Salle’s friends and contemporaries—from painters to conceptual artists such as Jeff Koons, John Baldessari, Roy Lichtenstein, and Alex Katz, among others—How to See explores not only the multilayered personalities of the artists themselves but also the distinctive character of their oeuvres. Salle writes with humor and verve, replacing the jargon of art theory with precise and evocative descriptions that help the reader develop a personal and intuitive engagement with art. The result: a master class on how to see with an artist’s eye.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why read this book? It’s not to learn about a unique life. Not to know what it is like to be an immigrant in Canada. Not what it is like to live with a heart disease and survive. Not to learn about the consequences of traumatic brain injury. Not to learn what life behind the Iron Curtain was like, or democracy should be. Not to learn survival skills or perseverance, or what to do when you find yourself helpless in the world you live in. Not how to believe in yourself and why, or how to succeed in difficult circumstances. Not to hopefully understand your grandparents better. How to become a better person? You should not read this for better understanding the world we live in. Not even to become keenly aware of your own vulnerable humanity, as you feel connected to another being. No. It’s for all of the above. Best to read it when you feel alone. You will.
