Book Synopsis "BERGMANN'S COMET" by : GEORGE G. PINNEO
Download or read book "BERGMANN'S COMET" written by GEORGE G. PINNEO and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2004-08-24 with total page 580 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bergmann’s Comet, Bk 3, builds on the two previous books: Batwing – Bergmann’s Commitment, Bk 1, and Bergmann’s Team, Bk 2, continuing the story of a trio of comets hurled out of the Oort Cloud threatening Earth’s civilizations. Bergmann’s small group assists Banderat and Striver vacuum grunts to divert the comets and minimize catastrophic terrestrial impact. Guy and Nita Bergmann join with a small group of ex-NASA astronauts to emplace crude drivers on the surface of Comet 1. The drives create a small lateral thrust redirecting the comet to just miss Earth. Two of the three comets are redirected to impact Mars: the first stage of a massive terraforming effort to prepare that second Human planet for a colony. Bergmann Ventures, Inc., Guy’s space venture, prepares for a post-comet growth phase that will place Humans in space permanently so they may interact with the Concordat’s Hub Planets and cultures. Bergmann’s Equestrian Venture, Bk 4, relates the first phase of the post-comet expansion into space with the introduction of horses to the concordat planet Baldon. Bergmann’s Orbitat, Bk 5, defines the construction of an orbital habitat at L5 allowing easy access to both the Lunar surface and Mars.

Book excerpt: Bergmann's Team continues Guy and Nita's effort to acquire a Human Team to assist Banderat and Striver engineers in diverting the comets threatening Earth. The core of their team: Guy, Nita and the Twins, demonstrate they can go EVA and perform well in space outside the Striver starship Dawn Star, surprising both Strivers and Banderat. They recruit NASA trained astronauts to join them; the Team moves up to "Terra House" aboard the starship for the interim, training before the comets reach Mars. Guy and the Twins rescue four young Banderat juveniles and put down a Banderat mutiny, freeing a captured Striver trooper, demonstrating Humans possess altruism and will fight when compelled. They augment their team and begin preparing Earth's governments for the oncoming comet storm. They make plans for post-comet business and plan for space tourism as one way to pay for routine access to orbital life and business.

Download or read book "Bergmann's Equestrian Venture," written by George G. Pinneo and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2005-07-18 with total page 594 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Bergmann’s Equestrian Venture is the 4th book in the nine-book series. Earth was spared the brunt of a comet-induced planet-wide winter by the Striver-led, Banderat-implemented, redirection of three comets. Bergmann’s Team played an important part in that cometary redirection. Now the Team has been invited to move a small herd of horses to the planet Baldon: Banderat would like to ride! This venture is the first feat Guy hopes to execute in his long-term plans to forge an extraterrestrial Human presence. The interstellar trip aboard Climber, a first for Humans, is a prelude to their successful arrival at the city of Bandalu, where they help finish an equestrian resort. Nita’s ‘surprise’ is a shock to all the team: the first Human child to be born off Earth. A family of Sayen reveals their presence to Guy, Nita, Greg and Raquel, on the mountain slope above Highlands Resort. The presence of a hidden seventh sapient race sends Shockwaves through the Concordat.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “BERGMANN’S ORBITAT”, Bk 5, details the return of Bergmann’s Team from Stavara in the Hub, bringing back a Banderat shuttle, Accelerator, they will use to construct an orbital habitat at L5, one of the Earth-Moon libration points, using current engineering practice. Bergmann’s orbital habitat, BV1, is spun on its axis at slow speed, to create artificial gravity so residents and visitors aren’t debilitated by living in zero-G. The L5 location allows easy access to both the Lunar surface and Mars mission launches. Bergmann Ventures, Inc., BVI, will recoup some of the cost by selling seats to visit the orbitat and dine in its new restaurant, offering stunning views of Earth far “below”. Trips to a new permanent monbase at Cabeus Crater will help generate revenue.

Book Synopsis From Republic to Empire by : John Pollini
Download or read book From Republic to Empire written by John Pollini and published by University of Oklahoma Press. This book was released on 2012-11-20 with total page 576 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political image-making—especially from the Age of Augustus, when the Roman Republic evolved into a system capable of governing a vast, culturally diverse empire—is the focus of this masterful study of Roman culture. Distinguished art historian and classical archaeologist John Pollini explores how various artistic and ideological symbols of religion and power, based on Roman Republican values and traditions, were taken over or refashioned to convey new ideological content in the constantly changing political world of imperial Rome. Religion, civic life, and politics went hand in hand and formed the very fabric of ancient Roman society. Visual rhetoric was a most effective way to communicate and commemorate the ideals, virtues, and political programs of the leaders of the Roman State in an empire where few people could read and many different languages were spoken. Public memorialization could keep Roman leaders and their achievements before the eyes of the populace, in Rome and in cities under Roman sway. A leader’s success demonstrated that he had the favor of the gods—a form of legitimation crucial for sustaining the Roman Principate, or government by a “First Citizen.” Pollini examines works and traditions ranging from coins to statues and reliefs. He considers the realistic tradition of sculptural portraiture and the ways Roman leaders from the late Republic through the Imperial period were represented in relation to the divine. In comparing visual and verbal expression, he likens sculptural imagery to the structure, syntax, and diction of the Latin language and to ancient rhetorical figures of speech. Throughout the book, Pollini’s vast knowledge of ancient history, religion, literature, and politics extends his analysis far beyond visual culture to every aspect of ancient Roman civilization, including the empire’s ultimate conversion to Christianity. Readers will gain a thorough understanding of the relationship between artistic developments and political change in ancient Rome.
Book Synopsis Tycho Brahe's Path to God by : Max Brod
Download or read book Tycho Brahe's Path to God written by Max Brod and published by Northwestern University Press. This book was released on 2007-10-03 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Though best known for his editing and posthumous publication of his friend Franz Kafka's writing, Max Brod was a major novelist in his own right. Tycho Brahe's Path to God, widely considered his finest work and viewed by many as a small masterpiece, concerns the relationship between the great Danish astronomer and the younger, intellectually superior Johannes Kepler. Brod's representation of this complicated relation grew out of his acquaintance with the young Albert Einstein, reproduces his struggles with the Expressionist poet Franz Werfel, and strangely anticipates the most famous act Brod would ever perform: publishing Kafka's writings without his permission. As Brahe attempts to create a diplomatic compromise between the old Ptolemaic system of planetary motion and its modern, Copernican revision, Kepler discards the principle of compromise root and branch. Their conflict thus becomes an emblem of the struggle between a weakened tradition and a self-conscious modernity. The novel manages to convey the intimate, emotional reality of a seventeenth-century political conflict as well as the psychological, political, and artistic turmoil of Brod's own time. This revival of the richly allusive and deeply resonant Tycho Brahe's Path to God is a true literary event.
