Book Synopsis Relationships Between Personality Traits, Physical Proficiency, and Cadet Effectiveness Reports of Air Force Academy Cadets by : Ernest C. Tupes
Download or read book Relationships Between Personality Traits, Physical Proficiency, and Cadet Effectiveness Reports of Air Force Academy Cadets written by Ernest C. Tupes and published by . This book was released on 1960 with total page 52 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cadets in 3 Air Force Academy classes rated each other on 20 personality traits as well as on physical ability and officer potential. For two of the classes objective measures of physical proficiency were also available. Intercorrelation matrices within each class were analyzed to determine relationships between personality trait ratings and Cadet Effectiveness Ratings, and to determine the factor structure underlying the ratings. Traits such as responsibility, perseverance, good adjustment, poise, social polish, and social intelligence were most highly related to CERs, while traits of surgency or extroversion such as talkativeness, frankness, adventurousness and sociability bore little or no relationships to CERs. The major portion of individual differences in CERs are related to these personality trait ratings. When compared with OCS candidates and majors attending Command and Staff School, the Academy cadets were found to differ little from these groups in the pattern of the personality trait versus CER relationships. Five personality trait ratings were identified which correspond closely to the five (Surgency, Agreeableness, Conscientiousness, Emotional Stability, and Culture) found in other analyses. A sixth factor was identified as physical ability.

Book Synopsis Recurrent Personality Factors Based on Trait Ratings by : Ernest C. Tupes
Download or read book Recurrent Personality Factors Based on Trait Ratings written by Ernest C. Tupes and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 58 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Intercorrelations among ratings on 35 personality traits, selected as representative of the personality domain, were obtained for eight samples. These samples differed in length of acquaintanceship from three days to more than a year; in kind of acquaintanceship from assessment programs in a military training course to a fraternity house situation; in type of subject from airmen with only a high school education to male and female undergraduate students to first-year graduate students; and in type if rater from very naive persons to clinical psychologists and psychiatrists with years of experience in the evaluation of personality. Centroid or multiple-group factors were extracted and rotated orthogonally to simple structure. For one study, an independent solution was obtained in which analytic rotations were accomplished on an IBM 650 computer using Kaiser's normal varimax criterion. Five fairly strong and recurrent factors emerged from each analysis, labeled as (1) Surgency, (2) Agreeableness, (3) Dependability, (4) Emotional Stability, and (5) Cutlure. -- page iii.
Book Synopsis Development of Self-report Tests to Measure Personality Factors Identified from Peer Nominations by : Warren T. Norman
Download or read book Development of Self-report Tests to Measure Personality Factors Identified from Peer Nominations written by Warren T. Norman and published by . This book was released on 1961 with total page 54 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An experimental battery of personality tests was constructed as part of a project to develop personality tests appropriate for use in selection of applicants for Air Force officer training. Criteria were peer-nomination ratings previously shown to define personality factors that were predictive of Officer Effectiveness Ratings. Rational selection of testing techniques and item forms was supplemented by information from a series of tryouts with small samples. The battery will be administered to a large sample composed of groups from which reliable peer-rating criteria can be obtained for full cross validation.

Book Synopsis Clinical Assessment of Child and Adolescent Personality and Behavior by : Paul J. Frick
Download or read book Clinical Assessment of Child and Adolescent Personality and Behavior written by Paul J. Frick and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-12-12 with total page 512 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychologists offer an increasing variety of services to the public. Among these services, psychological assessment of personality and behavior continues to be a central activity. One main reason is that other mental health professionals often do not possess a high level of competence in this area. And when dealing with children and adolescents, psychological assessment seems to take on an even greater role. Therefore, it follows that comprehensive graduate-level instruction in assessment should be a high priority for educators of psychologists who will work with these youth. This textbook is organized into three sections, consistent with the authors’ approach to teaching. Part I provides students with the psychological knowledge base necessary for modern assessment practice, including historical perspectives, measurement science, child psychopathology, ethical, legal, and cultural issues, and the basics of beginning the assessment process. Part II gives students a broad review of the specific assessment methods used by psychologists, accompanied by specific advice regarding the usage and strengths and weaknesses of each method. In Part III, we help students perform some of the most sophisticated of assessment practices: integrating and communicating assessment results and infusing assessment practice with knowledge of child development and psychopathology to assess some of the most common types of behavioral and emotional disorders in youth. A text focusing on assessment practices must be updated every four to six years to keep pace with advances in test development. For example, several of the major tests reviewed in the text, such as the Behavioral Assessment System for Children and the Child Behavior Checklist, have undergone major revisions since the publication of the last edition making the current content outdated. Further, another major test, the Conners’ Rating Scales, is undergoing substantial revisions that should be completed before publication of the next edition. Finally, the evidence for the validity of the tests and the recommendations for their appropriate use evolve as research accumulates and requires frequent updating to remain current. For example, there was a special issue of the Journal of Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology published focusing on evidenced-based assessment of the major forms of childhood psychopathology that will need to be integrated into the chapters in Part 3. This latter point reflects an important trend in the field that should influence the marketing of the book. That is, there are several initiatives being started in all of the major areas of applied psychology (e.g., school, clinical, and counseling) to promote evidenced-based assessment practices. These initiatives have all emphasized the need to enhance the training of graduate students in this approach to assessment. This has been the orientation of this textbook from its first edition: that is, Clinical Assessment of Child and Adolescent Personality and Behavior has focused on using research to guide all recommendations for practice. The ability of the textbook to meet this training need should be an important focus of marketing the book to training programs across all areas of applied psychology.
Book Synopsis A Review and Annotated Bibliography of the Literature Pertaining to Team and Small Group Performance (1989 to 1999) by : Andrew S. LaJoie
Download or read book A Review and Annotated Bibliography of the Literature Pertaining to Team and Small Group Performance (1989 to 1999) written by Andrew S. LaJoie and published by . This book was released on 1999 with total page 96 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "The military, along with private industry, is relying more on small teams of specialized individuals who work together to achieve a common goal. Examples of these teams include emergency medical teams, aircrews, decision- making teams, industrial project teams, Special Forces teams, weapon system crews and everyday work teams. Training and military doctrine has been evolving to reflect this emphasis on teamwork. The purpose of this annotated bibliography is to review literature published over the last ten years concerning team and small group performance. Specifically, the articles reviewed in this report represent a sampling of the research published in the social sciences, including psychology, sociology, and business. The team and small group literature reviewed includes examples of the many types of teams mentioned earlier. A summary and integration of this work is provided. In general, the research suggests that there are several components which contribute to the successful performance of teams, and that some of these components can be explicitly trained. Several training models are discussed." -- Stinet.
Book Synopsis Similarity of Factors Underlying Peer Ratings of Socially Acceptable, Socially Unacceptable, and Bipolar Personality Traits by : Ernest C. Tupes

This book was released on 1961 with total page 40 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Five well-defined factors were found to underly ratings of personality traits when the traits were expressed in bipolar form (e.g., Cooperative vs Obstructive). The present study investigated the factor structure underlying ratings when the traits were presented with socially acceptable definitions alone (e.g., Cooperative vs Not So); with socially unacceptable definitions alone (e.g., Obstructive vs Not So); as well as in the bipolar form. Five hundred members of the Air Force Command and Staff School Class of 1959 rated each other (in rating groups of 12 to 14 officers) using one or another of three forms designed to obtain bipolar and unipolar ratings. When the three intercorrelation matrices were factor analyzed, five factors emerged from each. These factors appeared to be the same five factors found in previous analyses. It was concluded that the factor structure underlying ratings of personality traits is unaffected by differences in the polarity ofAD-266 862Div. 8, 25, 2U (TIPTP/MFA)Armour Research Foundation, Chicago, Ill.
