In 11 essays, Montanan writers and historians tell the story of Montana's diverse peoples and wildlife, cities and industries, politics and economics, recreation and arts. About 300 modern and historical images reflect the faces of heroes, villains, and average citizens living ordinary and sometimes trying lives. Edited by Michael P. Book excerpt: The third novel in New York Times bestselling author Kelly Elliott's Meet Me in Montana series shows how family and true love can heal a broken past. After her mother died in a car accident when she was only five, and her father was determined not to show any emotions toward his only daughter, Timberlynn longs for a normal family. What she hadn't planned on was finding that family in Hamilton, Montana-thousands of miles away from everything she's ever known in Atlanta, Georgia. She certainly didn't plan on falling for Tanner Shaw. A handsome, charming, cowboy who swept her off her feet the moment he looked at her with eyes the color of the Montana sky. Tanner Shaw was lost and confused...living a life without purpose, traveling between one city to the next. With a longing desire for something he could not quite pinpoint, he heads back to his hometown in Montana to spend Christmas with his family and clear his clouded head. One look at Timberlynn standing in his family's kitchen, and his entire world is turned upside down. Or was it? For once in his life, Tanner knew exactly what he wanted and was determined to prove to the only woman he had ever loved that what they shared was worth the risk. But winning Timberlynn Holden's heart wasn't going to be as easy as he thought. Can Tanner finally rope in the woman he loves, or will he be unable to help her mend her broken heart? Good Enough is a stand alone novel in the Meet Me in Montana series. Suggested reading order - 1. Never Enough2. Always Enough 3. Good Enough 4. Strong Enough

Montana's declining health had him headed straight for the auction block where he would be sold by the pound, but this horse's loving spirit changed his own fate... Now, freed from the cramped stall in the urban stables where he lived, Montana was brought to a beautiful home in the country where he could live like a horse rather than an amusement park ride. His new home had two young children, Anthony and Charlotte, with whom he became best friends. This is a story of love and a lesson on how positive thoughts, patience, and humility can pave a road to realizing your most amazing dreams. And if you believe in magic, well there's some of that too.

Except, after a drunken girls' night out, instead of waking up with him in my bed, I wake up with a killer hangover and an inbox full of his texts telling me how reckless and dangerous my antics are. Now my dad and brother want to find me a husband, and my ex-boyfriend has decided he wants the job. But I'm not looking for marriage, I'd rather have a few incredible nights with the annoying mountain hottie. Only it turns out he's not looking for a hook-up, he wants to own me.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southwest Montana is beautiful country, evoking mythologies of freedom and escape long associated with the West. Partly because of its burgeoning presence in popular culture, film, and literature, including William Kittredge's anthology The Last Best Place, the scarcely populated region has witnessed an influx of wealthy, white migrants over the last few decades. But another, largely invisible and unstudied type of migration is also present. Though Mexican migrants have worked on Montana's ranches and farms since the 1920s, increasing numbers of migrant families—both documented and undocumented—are moving to the area to support its growing construction and service sectors. The Last Best Place? asks us to consider the multiple racial and class-related barriers that Mexican migrants must negotiate in the unique context of Montana's rural gentrification. These daily life struggles and inter-group power dynamics are deftly examined through extensive interviews and ethnography, as are the ways gender structures inequalities within migrant families and communities. But Leah Schmalzbauer's research extends even farther to highlight the power of place and demonstrate how Montana's geography and rurality intersect with race, class, gender, family, illegality, and transnationalism to affect migrants' well-being and aspirations. Though the New West is just one among many new destinations, it forces us to recognize that the geographic subjectivities and intricacies of these destinations must be taken into account to understand the full complexity of migrant life.

Book excerpt: New York Times and USA Today Bestselling Author Jane Porter kicks off her brand new cowboy series with a modern twist on an old-fashioned way of finding a wife. After the only woman Joe Wyatt ever loved marries another, the Montana rancher swears off romance. He's done playing the game. Only problem? He needs a wife, and kids he can pass the Paradise Valley cattle ranch to. So Joe takes the same no-nonsense approach to marriage as he does to running his family’s business...he places an online ad for a mail-order bride. The ad is a lot like Joe, straight-forward and to-the-point: Wife Wanted. When Sophie Correia is left at the altar after her groom runs off with her maid of honor, she wants to get as far away from California and her dairy farming family as possible. Sophie doesn't need hearts and flowers, but she's fed up with men who can't commit. And at thirty, she's more than ready to start a family. When she comes across Joe's ad, she thinks she's found the perfect solution -- head to Montana, get married, and move forward. Can a contract for marriage lead to love, or will the arrangement cost them their hearts?
