Book excerpt: The sixty poems collected in Beach Synchronization are set either on the ocean, or on the beach, or in transit to or from the beach or, finally, in the mind of the narrator when he is simply thinking about the beach and the ocean. The first person narrator of these poems is the poet. This suggests what is indeed fact, that the poet has spent a great deal of time enjoying the many beautiful beaches along the west central Florida coast. However, while the beach is often beautiful, anyone who has spent any time near or on the ocean knows marine weather can be harsh, even life-threatening. Indeed, the beach is an arena where dramas of life and death are played out daily. To truly appreciate the shore and the ocean, then, one must respect the marine environment and the lessons it has to teach us. One must, in other words, be in synch with the various moods of the sea and nature. The poems herein are loosely organized around the premise that the moods of the sea and marine weather have their various rhythms. An overarching theme of the poems is that one who is in tune with the rhythms of marine life will find himself or herself in communion with a transcendent reality. In other words, one who is synchronized to the natural world is likely to feel that the world of the senses is not the only world. In many of the poems in this collection, the narrator is overcome with a premonition or an inkling that the world he knows with his senses provides evidence of a higher reality, a reality in which the significance of his human experience - whatever it has been -- will become fully clear and will be justified.

Book excerpt: Miranda Thorpe, an experienced psychotherapist and grandmother, offers us a unique book about a valuable parenting skill that is rapidly being lost around the world. The simple technique of early and gentle toilet training (Elimination Communication) is a traditional method of using observation, timing, sounds, and intuition with minimal use of nappies (diapers). This ‘dance’ between the caregiver and baby results in a stronger ‘in sync’ bond that then helps the baby to become more in tune with their own body and feelings. Miranda reveals how this early toilet training practice is an invaluable key to deeper and healthier relationships. In this important book she integrates the physical, emotional, environmental, and psychological facets of this fascinating topic.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a parent new to synchronized swimming, I wanted to support my daughter in her new adventure of learning the sport. But I didn’t know where to turn. A Google search and an Amazon search only disclosed so much. That’s why I decided to put this guidebook together – to help other parents. As a non-swimming family, until now, I searched for resources and found very little. I was starting at ground zero, so I hunted for information from speed swimming and other synchronized swimming families and coaches. I’ve compiled the information in a format for first time parents (based on what I have learned through my daughter’s club). When I refer to first time parents in this guidebook, it is those family members or legal guardians who are supporting a child new to this sport. Should your daughter try? My answer is “of course!” Especially, if your daughter danced, swam or participated in gymnastics or cheerleading, she will understand and enjoy this sport.

Book excerpt: Lance Bass, who literally grew up as part of one of the biggest bands in the world, tells all about his life, his music, and his sexuality in this candid, compelling autobiography. At sixteen, Lance Bass received a phone call from Justin Timberlake that would change his life forever. Soon after, he left his small-town home in Clinton, Mississippi, to join an emerging musical group called *NSYNC. Two years later *NSYNC was inspiring Beatles-esque mania around the world, becoming the face of the new MTV generation, and earning the all-time record for most album sales in a single day (more than one million) and in a single week for No Strings Attached. He's remained in the spotlight ever since, and here he talks in depth for the first time about his childhood, his astonishing experiences as a young man and Christian growing up in one of the biggest bands in the world, his shock and frustration at the band's eventual dissolution, and his subsequent career, including his four months in Russia, training to become a cosmonaut. He also frankly discusses life as a gay man—his first same-sex relationship at twenty-one, his struggle to keep his sexuality hidden from *NSYNC's fans in case it jeopardized the band's success, and the true circumstances that led to his decision to publicly come out at the age of twenty-seven. Full of fascinating behind-the-scenes lore and revealing insights from a pop star who, until now, has been notoriously private, Out of Sync is the book that millions of fans have been waiting for.

Book excerpt: Newly expanded and revised with essential updates and insights, the third edition of this definitive guide delivers new information on sensory processing disorder and differences (SPD). “The Out-of-Sync Child has become the parents’ bible to [SPD].” —The New York Times Does your child experience sudden bursts of anxiety, agitation, or discomfort, or appear sensitive or sensory-craving without explanation? Is your child clumsier than most children, or unable to discriminate between ordinary sounds, sights, and other sensations? Sensory processing differences, in which the central nervous system misinterprets messages from the senses, are common yet widely undiagnosed in young children today. Often overlooked or undiagnosed, SPD impacts thousands of children from all walks of life. This latest edition of Carol Kranowitz’s renowned and practical guide for parents, teachers, and professionals offers authoritative, research-based information on recognizing SPD and comprehending the diagnosis, and important advice on how to help kids and families cope and thrive. Delivering comprehensive guidance and drug-free interventions, The Out-of-Sync Child is a trusted resource for parents and professionals who want to understand and ease the challenges of living with SPD.

Book excerpt: This is chapter two to ten of a three-part series discussing the astrophysical cause of mental and biological conditions such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, MPD syndrome, autism, homosexuality, personality, gender, "race" and so forth. It also analyzes the correspondence of these conditions to humanity in general and concludes that all the activities of people stem from astrophysically-caused gender elements that conduct people's lives from their socio-physiological behavior, to their security, spiritual and political needs. It also observes the convergence of these elements that lead to relative peace.
