This book was released on 2004-09 with total page 182 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The MINITAB lab manual is designed to be used with any Elementary Statistics textbook. The lessons are self-explanatory and explore topics that are covered in all elementary texts. The purpose in writing this manual is to provide some simple examples of basic statistical techniques so that students can see that statistics is more than just a long list of mind-boggling formulas. Since MINITAB does all the computation, students can concentrate on selecting the appropriate statistical method and can focus on understanding and interpreting the results. Each chapter has an instructional section which summarizes a basic statistical concept. This is followed by a computer assignment in which students can practice the techniques that they have learned in the chapter. All instructions and diagrams in the manual were developed using MINITAB Release 14. Users of the Student Version of MINITAB may find some slight differences in the procedures. All the data sets used in the lessons are saved on the included data CD as MINITAB Worksheets (*.MTW). Minitab Software/CD not included with manual.

Book excerpt: The Guide to Minitab includes both a Getting Started with Minitab section and hands-on, self-paced Tutorials designed to teach students how to use the software capabilities through a variety of approaches. The Tutorials cover all of the primary features and capabilities of MINITAB, including graphical and numerical methods for one and two or more variables, bivariate analysis, total quality management tools, time series analysis, and taking data from the web, to name a few. MINITAB is an easy-to-use general-purpose statistical computing package for analyzing data. It is a flexible and powerful tool that was designed from the beginning to be used by students and researchers new to statistics. It is now one of the most widely used statistics packages in the world. Minitab performs horribly tedious computations and produces accurate and professional quality graphs almost instantly. This power frees the user to focus on the exploration of the structure of the data and the interpretation of the output. MINITAB software not included.

This book was released on 2002 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The new edition of Anthony Hayter's book addresses the many challenges professors face in Engineering Statistics. Debate over teaching this course has centered on which topics to emphasize and how to do so (e.g., balancing data analysis with probability and use of the computer with the understanding of formulas). While Hayter's book assumes students have some quantitative ability, it provides a primarily applied rather than theoretical approach. Hayter has carefully constructed his book to allow for maximum customization. The material has been divided into four sections based on probability (Chapters 1 - 5), basic statistics (Chapters 6 - 10), advanced statistical methodologies (Chapters 11 - 14), and additional topics (Chapters 15 - 17). The Preface offers suggested paths that can be taken, based on topic preference. This is ideal for departments where different methods of teaching coexist. This flexible approach is also employed with regard to the use of computer tools. Because the book is not tied to a particular software package, instructors may choose to use the program that best suits their needs. However, the book does provide substantial computer output (using MINITAB and other programs) to give students the necessary practice in interpreting computer output. "Computer Note" sections offer tips for using various software packages to perform analysis of the data sets, which can be downloaded from the web site. Through the use of extensive examples and data sets, the book illustrates the importance of statistical data collection and analysis for students in the fields of aerospace, biochemical, civil, electrical, environmental, industrial, mechanical, and textile engineering, as well as students in physics, chemistry, computing, biology, management, and mathematics.

Book excerpt: Although books covering experimental design are often written for academic courses taken by statistics majors, most experiments performed in industry and academic research are designed and analyzed by non-statisticians. Therefore, a need exists for a desk reference that will be useful to practitioners who use experimental designs in their work. This book fills that gap. It is written as a guide that can be used as a reference book or as a sole or supplemental text for a university course.
