Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dear readers, owing to the coronavirus outbreak we have been falling on hard times in these days. As humanity, we will overcome this obstacle by consciously struggling. When it is all over, maybe we will raise the proper awareness for the old order of the history of mankind and our planet which is our home. And yet, we gratefully appreciate our doctors and all health care personnel who persevere for our well-being. We are also grateful for our artists who have been feeding our souls with their music on the internet since we must stay at home in order to be protected from the spreading of virus. Concert halls and entertainment venues were the first places that have been shut down in order to prevent the outbreak of the coronavirus. During this difficult situation, we share our expectation that Mr Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, the Ministry of Culture could interfere in the crisis to create financial sport programmes for the artists who were adversely affected from the outbreak having to delay their schedules. As usual, the tenth issue of Makam Music Periodical is authentic and full of new material. The spring edition contains various articles from precious artists in which they share sequences from their glamorous careers... See you in healthy days …

Download or read book Political Messaging in Music and Entertainment Spaces across the Globe. Volume 2. written by Uche Onyebadi and published by Vernon Press. This book was released on 2022-09-20 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'Political Messaging in Music and Entertainment Spaces across the Globe' uniquely expands the frontiers of political communication by simultaneously focusing on content (political messaging) and platform (music and entertainment). As a compendium of valuable research work, it provides rich insights into the construction of political messages and their dissemination outside of the traditional and mainstream structural, process and behavioral research focus in the discipline. Researchers, teachers, students and other interested parties in political communication, political science, journalism and mass communication, sociology, music, languages, linguistics and the performing arts, communication studies, law and history, will find this book refreshingly handy in their inquiry. Furthermore, this book was conceptualized from a globalist purview and offers readers practical insights into how political messaging through music and entertainment spaces actually work across nation-states, regions and continents. Its authenticity is also further enhanced by the fact that most chapter contributors are scholars who are natives of their areas of study, and who painstakingly situate their work in appropriate historical contexts.
Book Synopsis The Influence of Abraham Cohen de Herrera's Kabbalah on Spinoza's Metaphysics by : Miquel Beltran
Download or read book The Influence of Abraham Cohen de Herrera's Kabbalah on Spinoza's Metaphysics written by Miquel Beltran and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2016-06-21 with total page 459 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book the author seeks to find historiographical and textual evidence that Abraham Cohen de Herrera ‘s main kabbalistic work, Puerta del Cielo, influenced Spinoza’s metaphysics as it is expounded in his later work, the Ethica. Many of the most important ontological topics maintained by the philosopher, like the concept of the first cause as substance, the procession of the infinite modes, the subjective or metaphorical reality of the attributes, and the two different understandings of God, were anticipated in Herrera’s mystical treatise. Both shared a particular consideration of panentheism that entails acosmism. This influence is proven through a comparative examination of the writings of both authors, as well as a detailed research on previous Jewish philosophical thought.

Book Synopsis Landscapes of the Song of Songs by : Elaine T. James
Download or read book Landscapes of the Song of Songs written by Elaine T. James and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2017 with total page 249 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this masterful new study of the ancient poetry of the Song of Songs, Elaine T. James explores the Song's underlying interest in the natural world. Engaging with the fields of geography, landscape architecture, and literature, James critiques the tendency of scholars to reify a perceived dichotomy between "nature" and "culture" and instead argues that the poetic attention to landscape indicates an awareness of a viewer. Nature is here a poetic device that informs James's close-readings of agrarianism, gardens, cities, social control, and feminism and the gaze in the Song. With this two-fold emphasis on landscape and lyric, Landscape of the Song of Songs shows how the Song persistently envisions a world in which human lovers are embedded in the natural world, complexly enfolded in relationships of fragility and care.

Book Synopsis Turkey in Turmoil by : Berna Pekesen
Download or read book Turkey in Turmoil written by Berna Pekesen and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2020-06-22 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The essays in this book are the first scholarly attempt to examine the complex interrelation of social change and political radicalization during the 1960s. In analyzing topics ranging from the 1968 student uprising, working class politics and trade unionism, Anti-Americanism, right-wing and left-wing militant action, communitarian violence, state coercion, and the artistic representation of these phenomena the contributors offer insights to help to answer why the experiences of this decade turned so radical with lasting polarizing effects on contemporary Turkish society today. Even though issues surrounding the topic are at the very center of intellectual and political debates in today ́s Turkey, such as the collective remembrance of the Turkish “68ers” and of the anti-communist state persecution and prosecution after the military intervention in 1980, a cohesive analysis of this era is still strikingly absent in scholarly works. Thus, “Turkey in Turmoil” is unique in many regards. As important as the presented diversity in research perspectives, the volume will also showcase multiple and, at some point, contesting and even provocative perspectives on the subject at hand.

Download or read book Digital Tradition written by Eliot Bates and published by Oxford University Press. This book was released on 2016-06-01 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Istanbul is home to a multimillion dollar transnational music industry, which every year produces thousands of digital music recordings, including widely distributed film and television show soundtracks. Today, this centralized industry is responding to a growing global demand for Turkish, Kurdish, and other Anatolian ethnic language productions, and every year, many of its top-selling records incorporate elaborately orchestrated arrangements of rural folksongs. What accounts for the continuing demand for traditional music in local and diasporic markets? How is tradition produced in twenty-first century digital recording studios, and is there a "digital aesthetics" to contemporary recordings of traditional music? In Digital Traditions: Arrangement and Labor in Istanbul's Recording Studio Culture, author Eliot Bates answers these questions and more with a case study into the contemporary practices of recording traditional music in Istanbul. Bates provides an ethnography of Turkish recording studios, of arrangers and engineers, studio musicianship and digital audio workstation kinesthetics. Digital Traditions investigates the moments when tradition is arranged, and how arrangement is simultaneously a set of technological capabilities, limitations and choices: a form of musical practice that desocializes the ensemble and generates an extended network of social relations, resulting in aesthetic art objects that come to be associated with a range of affective and symbolic meanings. Rich with visual analysis and drawing on Science & Technology Studies theories and methods, Digital Traditions sets a new standard for the study of recorded music. Scholars and general readers of ethnomusicology, Middle Eastern studies, folklore and science and technology studies are sure to find Digital Traditions an essential addition to their library.
