Ben Not sure what my problem is, but I am sure I’m hooked on Jazzy. And doubly sure she is THE worst possible broken girl on campus. Damaged by unholy demons from her past, she has a razor-sharp take-no-prisoners attitude that runs true and deep. No matter. She had me the first time I heard her open her mouth and sing. Her tragic voice spoke of soul-splitting pain and I knew I should have run the other way. But I didn't. And in the crowded bar, in front of all my teammates, she has to dare me. I shouldn’t be charmed by her broken, hard-luck anti-charm, but I have to take her dare. No matter if it leads us down a path of mutual self-destruction. I need to try to save her. The thing I never expect is the devastating chemistry we have in bed, and worse, the vulnerable underbelly of the grittiest, toughest woman I’ve ever met. Book excerpt: Jack They say I'm a troubled kid, labeled a bad-boy jock for my rebel attitude. You'd think at St. Paul University that label would put me at the top of the watch list for expulsion, or at least be a death sentence to my social life. But no. In truth, I should be a pariah, but I'm not. I'm the BMOC because I'm the starting quarterback of the prized football team. After last season's bowl game victory, I could be Voldemort and I'd still get the champagne treatment. But who cares? Because the one girl on this campus I want doesn't give a sh*t about football. She thinks bad boys are, well, bad. Worst of all, she's my nemesis from back home. It's messed up that I'm stuck on Joni, because she's the biggest threat to my goal of winning the Heisman Trophy. It kills me that she's also a hot tamale as my grandpa would say. If he were still alive. Losing grandpa started my trouble. Being with Joni could ruin me. Or it could save me. All I need to do is convince her she's not my enemy... Big Man on Campus is a sizzling college sports romance. This full length standalone novel is the first in the Big Men On Campus series. If you love stories where enemies become lovers and bad boys are redeemed, then you'll enjoy this one! (Contains sex and language for a mature audience.)

He was a demi-god, a black hole on campus sucking up every girl in his orbit until they may as well be invisible. Or until I may as well be invisible. In spite of that, he's my best friend and I spend four years making do with his leftovers, consoling girl after girl once he's rejected them. It was a tough job, but I didn't mind it. Rich sarcasm here. But I didn't mind--until it came to Izzy. She's my achilles heel, the one girl I never let out of my sights no matter if she sees me or not, but she got sucked into Jack's orbit too and he doesn't let go of her easily. Worse, she doesn't want to let go of him. She clings to his ghost even as I console her, even when she'll let me be no more than a friend. I want to be okay with that. I don't want to hate my best friend. I don't want to see Izzy's heart broken. But I abso-fucking-lutely do not want to be nothing more than a friend to her. I need Izzy to choose me. But how can I ever be sure I'm nothing more than leftovers? Hot Shot Running Back is in the Big Men on Campus world and can be read as a stand-alone. This book was released on 2011-04-30 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Located near Cumberland Gap in the rugged hills of East Tennessee, Lincoln Memorial University (LMU) was founded in 1897 to help disadvantaged Appalachian youth and reward the descendents of Union loyalists in the region. Its founder was former Union General Oliver Otis Howard, a personal friend of Abraham Lincoln, who made it his mission to sustain an institution of higher learning in the mountain South that would honor the memory of the Civil War president. In Lincoln Memorial University and the Shaping of Appalachia, LMU Professor Earl J. Hess presents a highly readable and compelling history of the school. Yet the book is much more than a chronology of past events. The author uses the institution’s history to look at wider issues in Appalachian scholarship, including race and the modernization of educational methods in Appalachia. LMU offered a work-learn program to help students pay their way, imparting the value of self-help, and it was hit by a massive student strike that nearly wrecked the institution in 1930. LMU has played an important role in shaping what higher learning could be for young people in its region of southern Appalachia. The volume examines the involvement of O. O. Howard and his unflagging efforts to establish and fund the school; the influence of early twentieth-century industrial capitalism— Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller were benefactors—on Appalachia and LMU in particular; and the turn-of-the-century cult of Lincoln that made the university a major repository of Lincolniana. Meticulously researched and richly illustrated, Lincoln Memorial University and the Shaping of Appalachia is a fresh look at the creation, contributions, and enduring legacies of LMU. Students, alumni, and friends of the university, as well as scholars of Appalachian culture and East Tennessee history, will find this book both enlightening and entertaining. Earl J. Hess holds the Stewart W. McClelland Chair in History at Lincoln Memorial University. He is the author of more than a dozen books on Civil War military history, the latest of which is Into the Crater: The Mine Attack at Petersburg.

A friend that made you act so different from your regular self that you didn’t recognize yourself when you were with them? John Chance has such a lifelong friend, Jesse Trubble, who has an unyielding zest for life that is infectious—captivating and influencing John’s actions and relationships for over fifty years of their lives. In 2021, John is in a retirement home, and to pass the time, begins to relate the story of the best friend he ever had. By the age of eight, Johnny is motherless and his father is an alcoholic. His life is empty until he meets Jesse Trubble, a boy who is also motherless but whose father loves him and treats him and Johnny well. Together, the boys stir up adventure and trouble, which lasts a lifetime, whether it is playing cowboys, leading fugitives from justice to freedom, plotting the murder of bullies, fighting in Vietnam, or running weapons in Peru. Can Jesse, whom others view as a “bad influence” on Johnny, mend their friendship when a rift occurs? Or will they remain estranged, unable to get past their differences? Bird of Time is a coming-of-age novel that spans the 1940s through the 2020s, the nostalgia of these modern times creating a backdrop for the exploits of Johnny and Jesse.
