Book Synopsis The Permanence of Diplomacy by : Juergen Kleiner
Download or read book The Permanence of Diplomacy written by Juergen Kleiner and published by World Scientific Publishing Company. This book was released on 2016-07-21 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique collection presents a comprehensive concept of diplomacy. It regards diplomacy as an institution for communication which, as far as content is concerned, functions as a dependent variable of foreign policy. Special attention is drawn to non-interference as an indispensable instrument to fight chaos in international relations. Articles on issues of foreign policy and diplomacy concerning some of the flashpoints of world politics in Asia, namely Korea, Pakistan and Afghanistan, follow. In some cases the interplay between foreign policy and diplomacy becomes visible. The difficulties of the United States to adept its policies toward the two Koreas in view of the ever changing relationship between these two countries are discussed. The diplomacy of estrangement between the United States and Pakistan gives an example how a relationship can deteriorate when no common ground for the basic aims of both sides is found. An attempt of diplomacy with the Taliban fundamentalists was made, but later replaced by fighting. The book also highlights other important developments in East and South Asia, such as the nuclear ambitions of North Korea and Pakistan, the turmoil in Pakistan and the future of war-torn Afghanistan.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'A History of Pakistan and its Origins' is a comprehensive, detailed and fully up-to-date study of one of the most diverse, volatile and strategically significant countries in the world today. Born in turmoil barely half a century ago, Pakistan seems to be in an interminable pursuit of its own identity and at the same time finds itself a pivotal player in world politics. Its short existence has witnessed much: four coups d' tat; the rise of Islam as a power; tensions between ethnic, religious and separatist movements; the Kashmir conflict and the near-constant war footing with India. This text charts half a century of nation-building in Pakistan, while at the same time placing the country within the context of its relations with the outside world.
Download or read book Xinjiang written by S. Frederick Starr and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2015-03-04 with total page 507 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eastern Turkestan, now known as Xinjiang or the New Territory, makes up a sixth of China's land mass. Absorbed by the Qing in the 1880s and reconquered by Mao in 1949, this Turkic-Muslim region of China's remote northwest borders on formerly Soviet Central Asia, Afghanistan, Kashmir, Mongolia, and Tibet, Will Xinjiang participate in twenty-first century ascendancy, or will nascent Islamic radicalism in Xinjiang expand the orbit of instability in a dangerous part of the world? This comprehensive survey of contemporary Xinjiang is the result of a major collaborative research project begun in 1998. The authors have combined their fieldwork experience, linguistic skills, and disciplinary expertise to assemble the first multifaceted introduction to Xinjiang. The volume surveys the region's geography; its history of military and political subjugation to China; economic, social, and commercial conditions; demography, public health, and ecology; and patterns of adaption, resistance, opposition, and evolving identities.

Download or read book New Zealand's Foreign Service written by Ian McGibbon and published by Massey University Press. This book was released on 2022-10-06 with total page 591 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Since 1943, during war, humanitarian and natural disasters, and flashpoints of global tension, one government department has been charged with the critical role of representing New Zealand's interests overseas. In doing so, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade (and its predecessors) has needed to respond to ever-evolving political and military allegiances, trade globalization, economic threats, natural disasters, and military conflict on behalf of a small nation that seeks to engage on the global stage while maintaining the principles that underpin its political institutions. For more than 75 years the ministry has been served by some remarkable people, dedicated to an organization that has reflected New Zealand's developing sense of nationhood and place in world. This history of the foreign service, edited by one of New Zealand's foremost historians, captures the high stakes, skill, and intelligence involved in the development of a unique organization.
