Book Synopsis Body Language from Head to Toe by : Per-Olof Hasselgren
Download or read book Body Language from Head to Toe written by Per-Olof Hasselgren and published by Strategic Book Publishing & Rights Agency. This book was released on 2015-06-03 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by a physician, Body Language – from Head to Toe is a “dictionary” of American idioms and other expressions that contain the name of a body part. The use of body part-related expressions is both interesting and fun. This book contains about 2,000 such idioms, words, and expressions, such as “with the back against the wall,” “brainstorming,” “sweet tooth,” and “tongue in cheek.” Says author Per-Olof Hasselgren, “As a surgeon, I understand the importance of anatomy and the knowledge of organs and tissues. This book reflects my longstanding interest in idioms and other expressions referring to body parts, and it ‘connects’ anatomy with the spoken and written language.” This book was written for three main reasons. First, anatomy matters, particularly in surgery. During the last several years, collecting such expressions became a hobby for the author. Second, as someone moving to this country from another part of the world, Dr. Hasselgren is interested in the peculiarities of the American language. Idioms, slang, and other expressions are specific for any given language and quite often cannot be directly translated. Third, when one starts to be aware of them, written and spoken body language can become quite entertaining.

Book Synopsis Mathematical Publishing by : Steven George Krantz
Download or read book Mathematical Publishing written by Steven George Krantz and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mathematicians are expected to publish their work: in journals, conference proceedings, and books. It is vital to advancing their careers. Later, some are asked to become editors. However, most mathematicians are trained to do mathematics, not to publish it. But here, finally, for graduate students and researchers interested in publishing their work, Steven G. Krantz, the respected author of several "how-to" guides in mathematics, shares his experience as an author, editor, editorial board member, and independent publisher. This new volume is an informative, comprehensive guidebook to publishing mathematics. Krantz describes both the general setting of mathematical publishing and the specifics about all the various publishing situations mathematicians may encounter. As with his other books, Krantz's style is engaging and frank. He gives advice on how to get your book published, how to get organized as an editor, what to do when things go wrong, and much more. He describes the people, the language (including a glossary), and the process of publishing both books and journals. Steven G. Krantz is an accomplished mathematician and an award-winning author. He has published more than 130 research articles and 45 books. He has worked as an editor of several book series, research journals, and for the Notices of the AMS. He is also the founder of the Journal of Geometric Analysis. Other titles available from the AMS by Steven G. Krantz are How to Teach Mathematics, A Primer of Mathematical Writing, A Mathematician's Survival Guide, and Techniques of Problem Solving.

This book was released on 2012-04-02 with total page 497 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These are the personal journals of Homer A. Plimpton, who joined the 39th Volunteer Regiment of Illinois in 1861 and rose from Private to Colonel of the regiment. On April 2nd of 1865, what remained of the 39th participated in the attack on Fort Gregg, a rebel defense position guarding Petersburg. Led by Captain Plimpton, the 39th charged the fort, which was made of earthworks in a semi-circle with a deep moat in front. The 1889 regimental history has this to say about Homer: His career as a soldier was noticeable for the unwearied attention to duty of whatever kind and was remarkable as an example of rapid and well-deserved promotion. Charles Stanley, student of the 39th regiment and Chicago based reporter. The Mural on the front cover is the Battle of Fort Gregg, used by permission of the US National Park Service.
