Four D[sub s] hadronic decay modes were tagged: D[sub s][yields][phi][pi];[phi][yields] K[sup+]K[sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; D[sub s][bar K][sup o]K;[bar K][sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]; D[sub s][yields][bar K]*(892)[sup o]K*;[bar K]*[sup o](892)[yields] K[sup[minus]][pi][sup+]; K*(892)[yields] K[sup o][pi][sup+]; K[sub s][sup o][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup[minus]]. Using the method of double-tagging, BES performed the first model-independent measurement of BrD[sub s[yields][phi][pi]]. Our result was Br[sub D[sub s][yields][phi][pi]]= 3.4[sub[minus]1.7-0.7][sup+4.8+1.3].

Book excerpt: The work is based on the analysis of the data collected at the BaBar experiment on the PEP-II collider at SLAC (Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, California) between 1999 and 2002. The data sample collected corresponds at 122.1 ± 0.6 ± 1.3 millions of BBbar pairs. The observation by BaBar of the DsJ*(2317)+ and DsJ(2460)+ mesons, discovered in 2003, raised a lot of interest for the spectroscopy of charmed hadrons. l reviewed theoretical explanations and recent experimental results. In the first part of the thesis , l studied the reconstruction efficiency of low energy pions produced in the D* meson decay. In the second part I studied the production of the new DsJ particles in the hadronic decays of the B meson with two charm quarks. To reach this goal l developed the technique to reconstruct the decays B-->DsJD(*). After clear evidence of signal on all the decay modes under study (some of them seen for the first time in the world !), l estimated the number of signal events and l computed the corresponding branching ratios, after background rejection, reconstruction efficiency evaluatlon and systematic errors estimation. The order of magnitude of the branching ratios is 10/\-3; these values are slightly smaller than the corresponding of the decays B-->DsD(*) , expected of the same order in the factorisatlon hypothesis. Using angular analysis l measured the quantum numbers of DsJ(2460)+, obtaining a result compatible with the hypothesis JP=1+

Using 3.3 million B[bar B] pairs collected with the CLEO-II detector, we have made the first observation of the decays B[sup 0][yields] K[sup+][pi][sup -], B[sup+][yields] K[sup 0][pi][sup+], and the sum of B[sup+][yields][pi][sup+][pi][sup 0] and B[sup+][yields] K[sup+][pi][sup 0] decays (an average over charge-conjugate states is always implied). We place upper limits on branching fractions for the remaining decay modes.

Book excerpt: We report new measurements of the differential and total branching ratios for inclusive B decay to D[sup 0], D[sup+] and D*[sup+] and the first measurement of the same quantities for inclusive B decay to D*[sup 0]. Here B is the mixture of B[sub d] and B[sub u] from[Upsilon](4S) decay. Furthermore, since more than one charm particle (or antiparticle) of the same kind can be produced in B decay, here ''inclusive B branching ratio'' is used to mean the average number of charm particles and their antiparticles of a certain species produced in B decay. We obtain the following results (the first error is statistical, the second systematic of this analysis, the third is propagated from other measurements):[Beta](B[yields] D[sup 0]X)= (0.636[+-] 0.014[+-] 0.019[+-] 0.018), [Beta](B[yields] D[sup+]X)= (0.235[+-] 0.009[+-] 0.009[+-] 0.024), [Beta](B[yields] D*[sup 0]X)= (0.247[+-] 0.012[+-] 0.018[+-] 0.018), [Beta](B[yields] D*[sup+]X)= (0.239[+-] 0.011[+-] 0.014[+-] 0.009). The following ratio of branching ratios is not affected by most of the systematic errors:[Beta](B[yields] D*[sup 0]X)/[Beta](B[yields] D*[sup+]X)= (1.03[+-] 0.07[+-] 0.09[+-] 0.08). We also report the first measurement of the momentum-dependent D*[sup 0] polarization and a new measurement of the D*[sup+] polarization in inclusive B decay. Using these measurements and other CLEO results and making some additional assumptions, we calculate the average number of c and[bar c] quarks produced in B decay to ben[sub c]= 1.10[+-] 0.05.

Book excerpt: I report on recent measurements from the Belle and BABAR collaborations on the decay of the B meson to hadronic final states without a charm quark. The study of the branching fractions and angular distributions of B meson decays to hadronic final states without a charm quark probes the dynamics of both the weak and strong interactions, and plays an important role in understanding CP Violation (CPV) in the quark sector. CP Violation at the B factories is described graphically by a triangle with sides formed from the CKM matrix elements V{sub qd}V*{sub qb} (q = u, c, t) and internal angles [alpha], [beta] [gamma] (or [phi]2, [phi]1, [phi]3). Discrepancies in the measured values of the sides and angles could be an indication of New Physics beyond the Standard Model (SM) due to enhanced branching fractions or modified CP asymmetries. The experimental measurements of branching fractions, CP asymmetries, polarization and phases (both weak and strong) can be compared to theoretical models based on, for example, QCD factorization, SU(3) symmetry and Lattice QCD.
