Book Synopsis Linguistic Geometry by : Boris Stilman
Download or read book Linguistic Geometry written by Boris Stilman and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 403 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Linguistic Geometry: From Search to Construction is the first book of its kind. Linguistic Geometry (LG) is an approach to the construction of mathematical models for large-scale multi-agent systems. A number of such systems, including air/space combat, robotic manufacturing, software re-engineering and Internet cyberwar, can be modeled as abstract board games. These are games with moves that can be represented by the movement of abstract pieces over locations on an abstract board. The purpose of LG is to provide strategies to guide the games' participants to their goals. Traditionally, discovering such strategies required searches in giant game trees. These searches are often beyond the capacity of modern and even conceivable future computers. LG dramatically reduces the size of the search trees, making the problems computationally tractable. LG provides a formalization and abstraction of search heuristics used by advanced experts including chess grandmasters. Essentially, these heuristics replace search with the construction of strategies. To formalize the heuristics, LG employs the theory of formal languages (i.e. formal linguistics), as well as certain geometric structures over an abstract board. The new formal strategies solve problems from different domains far beyond the areas envisioned by the experts. For a number of these domains, Linguistic Geometry yields optimal solutions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Following crucial insights on the functional structure of the clause and recent developments within the cartographic projects and minimalism, this book addresses various central themes in Italian and Romance syntax ranging from verb syntax and the syntax of verb-related phenomena of agreement and cliticization, to word order issues and their status in discourse contexts. It illustrates a research program where the basic formal components of grammar, the rich cartographic syntactic structures, are directly implicated in morphosyntactic computations proper as well as in the articulation of discourse strategies.

Book Synopsis Program Evaluation for U.S. Army Lifelong Learning Centers (LLCs) by : Anna T. Cianciolo
Download or read book Program Evaluation for U.S. Army Lifelong Learning Centers (LLCs) written by Anna T. Cianciolo and published by . This book was released on 2008 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lifelong Learning Centers (LLCs) comprise a suite of technologies that enable online posting of schoolhouse curricula and collaboration among distributed learners. These technologies connect the field Army to Army schoolhouses, simultaneously improving course currency and supporting training in the field. The impact of lifelong learning on organizational excellence seems clear. However, it is unknown how LLCs promote readiness using educational technology and how LLC effectiveness should be measured. The purpose of this research was to develop a comprehensive, generalizable framework for conceptualizing the effectiveness of LLCs and for capturing the drivers of success. The framework and associated metrics were used to conduct an evaluation of a pilot LLC located at Fort Leavenworth. This evaluation indicated the importance of taking a causal approach. An assessment of outcomes alone would have indicated that the initiative had achieved its goals but would have obscured the fact that some of these goals--teaching and learning effectiveness--were achieved largely independently of the use of learning technologies. The basis of the framework in theory makes it generalizable not only across current and future LLCs, but also across other blended learning initiatives, addressing a gap in the scholarly literature regarding the effectiveness assessment of educational technology.
Book Synopsis Handbook of Production Management Methods by : Gideon Halevi
Download or read book Handbook of Production Management Methods written by Gideon Halevi and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2001-10-22 with total page 323 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This unique book provides a guide to the selection of appropriate production and manufacturing methods for postgraduate and professional manufacturing engineers. It starts by helping the reader to identify the required objectives of industrial management for their particular situation. Having identified the objectives an analytical assessment of the available production and management methods is made. The analytical system presents an objective method of production selection. For example, this practical book will help the reader to decide whether or not a local Just-in-Time process is needed or a full chain JIT method is needed. Alternatively the problem may be deciding between set-up time reduction or changeover time reduction. Should TQM be ceded to PCIs? This book covers nearly all methods of production and manufacturing and will prove the most comprehensive guide to choosing and using these methods. - Only book of its kind available - Widest coverage of methods available - Analytical approach to decision making
Book Synopsis Handbook of Test Development by : Thomas M. Haladyna
Download or read book Handbook of Test Development written by Thomas M. Haladyna and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2011-04-26 with total page 1037 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Despite the fact that test development is a growth industry that cuts across all levels of education and all the professions, there has never been a comprehensive, research-oriented Handbook to which everyone (developers and consumers) can turn for guidance. That is the mission of this book. The Handbook of Test Development brings together well-known scholars and test-development practitioners to present chapters on all aspects of test development. Each chapter contributor is not only a recognized expert with an academic and research background in their designated topic, each one has also had hands-on experience in various aspects of test development. This thirty two-chapter volume is organized into six sections: foundations, content, item development, test design, test production and administration, and post-test activities. The Handbook provides extensive treatment of such important but unrecognized topics as contracting for testing services, item banking, designing tests for small testing program, and writing technical reports. The Handbook is based on the Standards for Educational and Psychological Testing, which serve as the foundation for sound test development practice. These chapters also suggest best test development practices and highlight methods to improve test validity evidence. This book is appropriate for graduate courses and seminars that deal with test development and usage, professional testing services and credentialing agencies, state and local boards of education, and academic libraries serving these groups.
