Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A creative and systematic Axiology of Vedic ideas and ideals. It is an independent Axiological study which gives an integral system of values in the Vedas. The attempt made by the Author is novel and adventurous and its findings are profound. The author has made use of the well-known concept of four Purusarthas: Dharma; Artha; Kama and Moksa. This method has enabled the author to grasp the value-core of the Vedas with freshness of vision and he has brought out the main value-affirmations in the Vedas. The present volume is a study of the most ancient book of mankind, but in advanced form. It is an exploration that leads to the development of the Vedic Axiology. Reviews ....invaluable for students of Vedas, and to Indologists. The thought-provoking comments on the topics are presented in rather unusual manner. Dr. Varadachari, Review Projector (India), Vol. 7, Nos. 7–9. ``Nonetheless, this book will be of an immense help both to the student and the researcher, and is, therefore, a must for libraries.'' Dr. S.R. Sehgal, Organiser, January 1, 1989.

Pakistan drove out all Hindus and Sikhs and has, therefore, solved the problem once and for all times. India has sizeable Muslim population even after partition. This population has been steadily growing. The Hindu-Muslim problem remains far from solved so far as India is concerned. Mahatma Gandhi spent his life-time in solving the problem but failed completely. Will the small men who shout Gandhis name from the house-top succeed where the formidable Mahatma had himself failed? What are the implications of a second failure on the Hindu-Muslim front?

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detailed: The monograph, the first by an Indian author is presented bilingually (Russian/English) will go a long way towards better understanding of Mikhail Sholokhov. The author has essayed to interpret Sholokhov's writings which were permeated by a sense of the beauty of the universe, by a love of toiling masses and a simplicity, and by a consciousness of humanism and the more serious reflections of the people of the Soviet Union, particularly of the Cossacks. G. Mukerjee considers Sholokhov in relation to Soviet letters and ideology and emphasises on Sholokhov's views much larger than his local region or nation. He marks the high literary value of Sholokhov's chef d'oeuvre and Quiet Flows The Don and gives a profound analysis of major works of Sholokhov from Tales from the Don, Theey Fought for Their Father Land, Virgin Soil Upturned, The Science of Hatred and The Fate of a Man, and their relevance to India. The author illustrated Sholokhov's views on Gandhi as well. He has given clear image of Gandhi to Soviet readers dispelling earlier misconceptions regarding Gandhi. This book holds the triumphs and failures of the former Soviet Union to the readers and gives a subtle indication of its recent fall.

Book excerpt: This book is the outcome of a field study of 162 suicide cases conducted in two suicide prone Upazilas of Jheneidah District in Bangladesh. The adolescent females and males were found to be the most suicide prone. The major factors that drive the victims to commit suicide were found to be bad relationship between husbands and wives, family quarrels, poverty, suffering from chronic and incurable diseases, etc. In Jheneidah the majority of the suicide victims were young housewives between 16–25 years of age. Unmet dowry demands, the desire of husband to marry for the second time and family quarrels led to torture of young housewives by their husbands and in-laws specially mother-in-laws. Illiteracy, poverty and total economic dependence on husbands or parents appeared to be the major contributory factors behind these suicide cases. It is suggested that the laws against polygamy and dowry system should be strictly enforced and special legal aid should be provided to help the parents of suicide victims. The book also discusses the socio-economic and psychological conditions of suicide victims, the factors which compelled them to commit suicide, methods of committing suicide and the months, timing and place of suicide. A brief description of 19 suicide cases has been given in the book. Some measures for reducing and preventing the incidence of suicide have also been suggested.

Book excerpt: Based on the study of a cross-section of respondents covering tractor-owners, bullock-owners and non-owners of draft power, the book tries to show that as compared to other farming sections, mechanised farmers have greater use of green revolution as manifested in cropping pattern and intensity use of high yielding varieties, fertilizer consumption and farm yields and incomes. Suggests that technological advancement if promoted and supported vigorously is likely to eliminate or neutralize the hold of traditional institutional frame work and non-scientific beliefs in addition to promoting agricultural production and productivity and rural incomes and employment.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Ghana, the torch bearer of African Independence from the yoke of colonial bondage, has been pushed to the background from its earlier pre-eminent position in international as well as African affairs. Since independence, Ghana has experienced diverse forms of Government and has almost run out of models for governing herself. Instead of providing leadership to the underdeveloped countries of Africa, Ghana is busy in its quest for evolving a stable and workable political system. In its effort to evolve a stable political system and an operational constitution capable of providing steady economic progress and social upliftment. Ghana has experimented west-minister style parliamentary system, a Single Party Republic and many military regimes following coups and counter coups. Like many of the developing states of Africa, Ghana has been plagued with post-independence political instability. Civilians as well as military governments have been installed with initial enthusiasm but so far none has been able to solve the pressing problems. In fact the quest for a permanent solution to what appears a persistent governmental crisis, has invited many coups and counter coups. It addresses and analyses the maladies that has afflicted the Ghanaian body politic.
