Book Synopsis How Business Leaders Avoid Conflict (Collection) by : Michael A. Roberto
Download or read book How Business Leaders Avoid Conflict (Collection) written by Michael A. Roberto and published by FT Press. This book was released on 2013-08-08 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Why Great Leaders Don't Take Yes for an Answer, Second Edition offers a powerful framework every leader can use to promote honest, constructive dissent and skepticism; test their assumptions; more thoroughly consider "best alternatives"; make better choices, and align organizations to act on their decisions. In this new edition, Roberto presents new cases from Google, Ford, Intuit, and others, plus expands coverage to more deeply illuminate his decision-making approach. Offering both positive and negative examples, he presents a well rounded view of how to determine when "yes" means "yes," when it doesn't, and what to do when it doesn't. Roberto explains why "good process entails the astute management of the social, political, and emotional aspects of decision making" -- in other words, why effective leaders are well served by carefully "deciding how to decide." ¿ Know What You Don’t Know: How Great Leaders Prevent Problems Before They Happen lays out the key skills and capabilities required to ensure that problems do not remain hidden in your organization. It explains how leaders can become effective problem finders, unearthing problems before they destroy an organization. The book explains how leaders can become an anthropologist, going out and observing how employees, customers, and suppliers actually behave. It then goes on to present how they can circumvent the gatekeepers, so they can go directly to the source to see and hear the raw data; hunt for patterns, including refining your individual and collective pattern recognition capability; "connect the dots" among issues that may initially seem unrelated, but in fact, have a great deal in common; give front-line employees training in a communication technique; encourage useful mistakes, including creating a "Red Pencil Award"; and watch the game film, where leaders reflect systematically on their own organization's conduct and performance, as well as on the behavior and performance of competitors.

Book Synopsis How to Avoid a Phd (Penalty for Hardworking Dummies): Wishing I Were an Autodidact by : Tamara I. Hammond
Download or read book How to Avoid a Phd (Penalty for Hardworking Dummies): Wishing I Were an Autodidact written by Tamara I. Hammond and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2022-11-13 with total page 214 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the result of decades-long academic research and 25 years of emergence in the myth of the American dream. In reality, a small minority of ultra-rich corporations have complete control over the government and mercilessly exploit the majority of Americans. The author debunks the illusion of meritocracy, heavily promoted by ubiquitous propaganda. Through the mainstream media, PR, and academia, the legend is sold to the American people and the world as an equal opportunity for all. Packaged in glamorous fabricated stories, the myth is glorified by Hollywood and legitimized by multiple mainstream news channels that are owned by five companies, which control the narrative. At the same time, higher education is designed to enslave graduates with enormous debts in order to keep them obedient. In the complete absence of adequate opposition, these institutions create and maintain a plutocracy while purporting to represent freedom and democracy.

Book Synopsis Military Transformation and Strategy by : Bernard Loo
Download or read book Military Transformation and Strategy written by Bernard Loo and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2008-08-21 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the idea of a ‘revolution in military affairs’ (RMA), which underpins the transformational agenda of the US military, and examines its implications for smaller states. The strategic studies literature on the RMA tends to be American-centric and directed towards the strategic problems of the US military. This volume seeks to fill the gap in the literature and establish an intellectual framework that can assist other, smaller powers in their respective approaches to this issue. The book does so in three main sections; Part I focuses on questions of transformations in strategy and war; Part II explores transformations in operations; while Part III examines possible impediments to an RMA. This book will be of much interest to students of Military Studies, Asian Studies, Strategic Studies and International Relations in general.
Book Synopsis Operation Iraqi Freedom by : Walter J. Boyne
Download or read book Operation Iraqi Freedom written by Walter J. Boyne and published by Forge Books. This book was released on 2003-11-15 with total page 485 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the New York Times bestselling author of Weapons of Desert Storm comes Walter J. Boyne's Operation Iraqi Freedom. No war has ever had the intensive media coverage of the 2003 war in Iraq, and none has ever had such monumental second-guessing. Months before the war began, domestic and international pundits painted a gloomy picture of a new Vietnam or of a nuclear Armageddon that would see Israel reduced to ruins. The war started with a brilliant series of pre-emptive bangs that shattered Iraqi leadership and seized the most valuable areas of Iraq. How did the US military machine, assumed to have insufficient air power, too few troops, and little momentum take a country the size of California within three weeks? In the 1991 victory in the Gulf War, the United States lead a much larger coalition force into a heavy air campaign followed by a lightening quick ground campaign. In the years that followed, the United States military experienced a continuing series of reductions in the national defense budget. What was left unrecorded was the incredible degree of competence with which the US military leadership managed the reduction in resources, balancing force structures against personnel requirements against procurement needs and logistic realities. Any one considering the great military victory achieved in Iraq must ask the following questions: Who was bright enough to plan to have the weapons systems in the right place at the right time? Who orchestrated this vast complex array of sophisticated military machinery-ships, submarines, missiles, armor, and soldiers-all needing fuel, ammunition and water? The answer is the much-maligned civil and military leaders of the American defense establishment, working in concert with the most advanced defense-based corporations in the world. While there were those anxious to parade the iniquities of a two-billion dollar bomber, most often failed to appreciated the genius required to conceive of, much less create a system which can use a satellite to send signals to a B-1B to program a precision guided missile to take out a Soviet T-72 tank parked in a mosque-without damaging the mosque! Admittedly, there were lapses in the Iraqi war, such as the looting of museums by members of the Ba'ath party just a day after many had declared Baghdad liberated and the raids on hospitals, another problem that could have easily been remedied by a show of U.S. presence and force. And there were technological complications as well, including the aching misfortune of death by friendly fire. The author deals with these shortcomings in a straightforward manner. Operation Iraqi Freedom: What Went Right and Why; What Went Wrong and Why gives intimate insight into the way in which the armed services, particularly the United States Air Force, managed to overcome genuine budgetary, political, and military difficulties to create the finest military force in the world, one that operated with the most extreme care to avoid collateral damage and to prevent loss of life.
