Book Synopsis The Noughties in the Hispanic and Lusophone World by : Niamh Thornton
Download or read book The Noughties in the Hispanic and Lusophone World written by Niamh Thornton and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2013-02-22 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While the fin de siècle has received considerable attention as a critical concept, the first decade of a new century has been less well studied. The chapters in this volume consider the distinctive cultural significance of the ‘noughties’ in the Hispanic and Lusophone world, looking at the specific cultural, political and economic circumstances of the decade, and in some cases proposing notions of an identifiable ‘noughties sensibility’ or ‘noughties generation’ which may flow out of, or stand in reaction against, the malaise of the fin de siècle. Drawing on specialist, area-specific knowledge, the authors consider the significance of the noughties across different eras. The contributions include chapters on how Brazil is negotiating the complicated terrain of digital literacy; the painful re-examination of the civil war that is taking place in Spain; and the negative effects of the economy on women’s lives in Argentina. The chapters examine film, digital media, theatre, fiction, the economy and history, all taking the noughties as a focal point. The multiple perspectives will reveal the commonalities of experiences that a particular period brings about as well as showing up the distinctive local differences.

Book Synopsis Playwriting in Europe by : Margherita Laera
Download or read book Playwriting in Europe written by Margherita Laera and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-10 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book maps contemporary playwriting and theatre translation practices and ecologies in the European continent. Whether you are a scholar researching contemporary drama and translation, or a theatre practitioner looking for ways to navigate theatrical conventions in other countries, this book is for you. Through questionnaires and one-to-one interviews with key stakeholders, Dr Laera collects qualitative and quantitative data about how each national theatre culture supports living dramatists, what conventions drive the production and translation (or lack thereof) of contemporary plays, and what perceptions are held by gatekeepers, theatre-makers and other cultural operators about the theatre system in which they work. Through country-by-country descriptions and analyses; interviews with playwrights, translators, directors and gatekeepers; a list of key facts and best practices; and a rigorous assessment of its methodologies, this volume is indispensable for those interested in contemporary European theatre practice.
Book Synopsis Vivir el teatro by : José Luis Alonso de Santos
Download or read book Vivir el teatro written by José Luis Alonso de Santos and published by CASTALIA. This book was released on 2023-11-22 with total page 91 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book Synopsis From the Theater to the Plaza by : Matthew I. Feinberg
Download or read book From the Theater to the Plaza written by Matthew I. Feinberg and published by McGill-Queen's Press - MQUP. This book was released on 2022-05-15 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Lavapiés - diverse, multicultural, and one of Madrid’s most iconic neighbourhoods - has emerged as a locus of resistance movements and of cultural flourishing. Poised at the intersection of theatre studies and cultural geography, this innovative study sketches its physical and imaginary contours. In From the Theater to the Plaza Matthew Feinberg guides readers on a journey through the development of the theatre, as both art and space, in Lavapiés. Offering a detailed analysis of dramatic texts and productions, performance spaces, urban planning documents, and the cultural activities of squatters, Feinberg sheds new light on the lead-up to Spain’s economic crisis and the emergence in 2011 of the 15-M anti-austerity protest movement. The result is a multidisciplinary account of how the spectacle of the contemporary city connects local, municipal, and global geographies. By linking the neighbourhood’s unique role as both a site and a subject of Madrid’s theatre tradition with its contemporary struggles over gentrification, From the Theater to the Plaza offers new approaches for understanding how culture and capital produce the twenty-first-century city.

Annotation is confined to information, and critical appraisal is excluded.
