Sage: A Member of the East Michigan Conference, Free Methodist Church; Embracing an Account of His Pioneer Work in Michigan, of the Formation of the Canada Conference and of His Labors in Various States MY only object in writing this book is to glorify God and advance his cause. I have no desire to make a display of what Ihave done, buti do desire to show what God is able to do with very common people, if they are only saved and will walk in the light as God is in the light. While God has often called great men to do his bidding, he has also called a David with his sling and smooth stones to kill Goliath; a Joseph to save his people from starvation; a Gideon with pitcher and lamp to redeem Israel. Joshua took Jericho without a battering-ram. The walls fell down flat. It was God and not man who gave the victory. In my weakness and ignorance I have felt many times that I was a failure. Then when I would read how God fed thou sands with what a lad could carry in a basket, and how he re stored the sight of a blind man by anointing his eyes with a little dust wet with Spittle, I have taken courage and have felt truly that God was able to take the weak and foolish things to confound the mighty. I trust that this simple story of my life will be the means of encouraging honest souls to do all they can for Christ even though they may not be as well prepared for service as they might desire. I send it forth in the name of the Master. Please look on what God has wrought, and not on my mistakes and common language. Yours in Jesus' name. It is a comprehensive review of the most important historical events on more than 5000 pages. For decades this book has remained a significant source of primary information on suffrage movements in the United States and is a valuable source of information today. Although the work was written by leaders and members of the National Woman Suffrage Association (NWSA), it doesn't cover the deeds of the other women suffrage organizations. Yet, even today, the History of Woman Suffrage remains "the richest repository of published, accessible documentary evidence of nineteenth-century suffrage movements," as researchers state.

Go back in time and get to know the founders and the followers, the characters of all the strong women involved in the movement. Find out what was the spark which started it all and kept the flame going. Learn about the organization, witness the backdoor conversations and discussions, read their personal correspondence, speeches and planned tactics. Learn about the relationship between great activists and what caused the fraction. See the movement in its full light and learn what it took to obtain most basic civil rights. Know your history! This six volumes edition covers the women's suffrage movement from 1848 to 1922. Originally envisioned as a modest publication that would take only four months to write, it evolved into a work of more than 5700 pages written over a period of 41 years and was completed in 1922, long after the deaths of its visionary authors and editors, Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. However, realizing that the project was unlikely to make a profit, Anthony had already bought the rights from the other authors. As a sole owner, she published the books herself and donated many copies to libraries and people of influence. Elizabeth Cady Stanton (1815–1902) was an American suffragist, social activist, abolitionist, and leading figure of the early women's rights movement. Susan B. Anthony (1820–1906) was an American suffragist, social reformer and women's rights activist. Harriot Stanton Blatch (1856-1940) was a suffragist and daughter of Elizabeth Stanton. Matilda Gage (1826–1898) was a suffragist, a Native American rights activist and an abolitionist. Ida H. Harper (1851–1931) was a prominent figure in the United States women's suffrage movement. She was an American author, journalist and biographer of Susan B. Anthony.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This new edition expands and updates the only general interpretation of the rise and influence of perfectionist revivalism in America and Europe. Fifteen years of expanding research on the holiness movement reinforce this volume's continuing seminal value to cultural and social research. The new concluding essay describes the history of the revival through the turn of the century. This book expands our understanding of the fragmentation and coalescence of American religion by analyzing the factors which created numerous new holiness denominations. Dieter also outlines the historical and theological factors that separate this largely Wesleyan and Methodist wing of evangelicalism from the fundamentalism of Reformed evangelicals. The identification of such nuances will prove especially helpful to those struggling with the extreme diversity in American religion, especially in evangelicalism. For students and scholars of American religious movements as well as students of the feminist, temperance, abolitionist, and populist movements in American society.
