Seit einiger Zeit sind sich Sozialwissenschaftler einig in ihrer Feststellung, dass Kinder mittlerweile die am stärksten von Armut gefährdete Altersgruppe darstellen. Diese Entwicklung hat zur Folge, dass immer weniger Kinder und Jugendliche die gesellschaftliche Vorstellung eines guten Lebens erreichen können. Sie messen ihre Möglichkeiten zur Teilhabe am Konsum und in der Freizeit an einer sozialen Realität, die hauptsächlich den Lebensstil der oberen sozialen Schicht widerspiegelt. Das Bedürfnis, mit der eigenen Freundesgruppe, Nachbarn oder Schulkameraden mithalten zu können, führt zu ständigen Vergleichen und Wettbewerben. Die kommerzielle Werbung und Medien verstärken diese Tendenzen zusätzlich. In Armut aufzuwachsen kann daher zu erheblichen psychosozialen Belastungen führen, die zu sozialer und kultureller Ausgrenzung führen und somit die Startmöglichkeiten im Leben beeinträchtigen. Für Kinder und Jugendliche haben Armutserfahrungen oft tiefgreifende und unmittelbare Folgen, da sie die Auswirkungen weniger verbergen können als Erwachsene. Während Erwachsene bewusste Entscheidungen zum Verzicht treffen können, wird ein Nicht-Mithalten-Können bei Jugendlichen schnell als Defizit erkannt. Daher ist ein zunehmender Prozess der sozialen Marginalisierung und der negativen Wahrnehmung und Erwartung seitens der Gesellschaft zu befürchten. Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es, diese Entwicklungen und Mechanismen genauer nachvollziehen zu können und im Hinblick auf die Aufgabe der Profession Sozialer Arbeit zu untersuchen. Hierzu wird, nach einer dem Umfang der Arbeit entsprechenden Darlegung des fachwissenschaftlichen Selbstverständnisses der Verfasserin, der Armutsbegriff, anhand von verschiedenen Begriffskonzepten, genauer beleuchtet. Weiter wird in diesem Kapitel auch auf den Begriff der Kinderarmut und dessen Auslegung erklärend eingegangen. Im vierten Kapitel wird zunächst der allgemeine Zusammenhang von Armut auf die Gesundheit eingegangen und daraufhin der spezielle Wirkungszusammenhang zwischen Armut und psychischer Gesundheit von Kindern und Jugendlichen beschrieben. Darauf folgt im fünften Kapitel eine im Hinblick auf das fachwissenschaftliche Selbstverständnis ausformulierte Rückwirkung auf die Bedeutung der Erkenntnisse für die Profession Sozialer Arbeit.

FH Koblenz), Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Kinderarmut stellt aufgrund der strukturellen Veränderungen in den vergangenen Jahren ein wachsendes gesellschaftliches Problem dar und gewinnt auch in der sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung an Bedeutung. Armut ist in den Industrienationen Ausdruck sozialer Ungleichheit und zeigt sich in Deutschland für mehr als zwei Millionen Kinder und Jugendliche über den unmittelbaren Mangel an Nahrung und Kleidung hinaus, auch in Erfahrungen, diskreditierbar und Exklusionsprozessen ausgesetzt zu sein. In der sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung erweist sich der sozialökonomische Status als bestimmende Größe für das Gesundheitsverhalten und die Gesundheit. In dieser Arbeit wird herausgestellt, inwiefern die materielle Armut die Gesundheit, insbesondere die psychische, von Kindern und Jugendlichen beeinflusst und welche Folgen sie mit sich bringen kann. Es wird versucht die Brisanz der Thematik hervorzuheben, auf die Langzeitfolgen von Kinderarmut im Bereich Gesundheit hinzuweisen und Interventionsmöglichkeiten vorzuschlagen, um Exklusionsprozesse zu vermeiden. Dazu wird zunächst im zweiten Kapitel der Armutsbegriff ausgeführt. Anschließend werden dem Leser die verschiedenen Perspektiven der Armutskonzepte vorgestellt. Mit diesem Grundwissen werden im vierten Kapitel aktuelle Erkenntnisse über Kinderarmut zusammengetragen. Um die These „Armut macht Stress und Stress macht krank“ (Vavrik, 2016: 48) kritisch zu hinterfragen, werden im folgenden Kapitel Gesundheit und Krankheit definiert, um anschließend die Auswirkungen von Armut auf den Gesundheitsstatus zu betrachten. Diese werden sowohl aus der biomedizinischen als auch aus der psychosozialen Perspektive dargelegt. Abschließend werden im sechsten Kapitel intervenierende Maßnahmen vorgestellt, um die Wirkmechanismen sozialer Benachteiligung für Kinder aus deprivierten Lebenslagen zu unterbrechen. Die in diesem Werk herausgearbeiteten Erkenntnisse stellen die Armutsthematik im Überblick dar und aufgrund deren Komplexität ist keine differenzierte Betrachtung empirisch erfasster Daten aus aktuellen Studien möglich. Der Fokus liegt auf der Erläuterung von relevanten Aspekten der Armut, sowie der Ausführung der Problemzusammenhänge zur Gesundheitsentwicklung von Kinder und Jugendlichen.
