Book excerpt: "Oceania: A Tourism Handbook draws together a wide range of sources to provide a comprehensive handbook of tourism in the Oceania region. As tourism continues to grow in importance and significance for the countries of Oceania, it is important to have a single source of information and reference for tourism. At the same time, it is vital to provide a disciplined analysis of tourism by standardising terminologies and delivering a consistency of approach for all the countries in the region." "The handbook provides an anatomy of tourism in the region by taking a detailed look at each of the three key constituents of Oceania - Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific Islands. For each of these regions, tourism demand, supply and organisation have been analysed, as well as a chapter to guide the reader through the tourism statistics sources that are available. The final section of the handbook takes a thematic approach with chapters examining key issues of tourism in the region, including investment, air transport, risk management, land ownership, climate change and tourism education."--BOOK JACKET.
Book Synopsis Australia by : World Tourism Organization

Book excerpt: Although the Asia-Pacific region has, for a long time, been associated with inbound tourism its growth rate for outbound tourism is greater than any other of the world's economic blocks. One feature of this growth is that 78% of outbound Asian traffic is within the region itself, and this intra-regional traffic has an important economic role. UNWTO has therefore commissioned a series of reports on the trends and potential of seven leading markets: Australia; China; Hong Kong; India; Japan; Republic of Korea; and Thailand.

Book Synopsis Diversion of Tourism Flows in the Asia & Pacific Region: Lessons for COVID-19 Recovery by : Vybhavi Balasundharam
Download or read book Diversion of Tourism Flows in the Asia & Pacific Region: Lessons for COVID-19 Recovery written by Vybhavi Balasundharam and published by International Monetary Fund. This book was released on 2021-08-20 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The COVID-19 pandemic prompted a collapse in international tourism, severely impacting the tourism-dependent economies in the Asia & Pacific region. Once countries start reopening, tourism diversion effects could accelerate the recovery in countries that establish themselves as more attractive travel destinations than competitors. We investigate the impact of previous shocks in tourism competitor countries on visitor inflows, with a particular focus on tourism-dependent Pacific Island Countries (PICs). We find that PICs were generally resilient to external shocks and benefitted from diversion effects for certain types of shocks. For example, the share of departures from Australia to PICs increased by 12 percent during the SARS outbreak. We then derive policy implications for the post-COVID-19 revival of inbound tourism to PICs and lessons for the future.
