Book excerpt: In February 1990 Fred Schaeffer heard an audible male voice state, "I want you to evangelize in Australia." He blurted, "Who?" The voice responded, "The Aborigines." Fred and his wife Carol responded to the call and learned from Australian missionaries that "Aboriginal people are the most neglected people on the face of the earth after 230+ years of oppression." From Massachusetts, they arrived in Sydney in 1996 and have built a US/Australian/Asian network of 13,000+ Prayer Partners and an Australian network of 128 Volunteer Evangelists who distribute Biblical resources in Aboriginal communities. Thousands have responded to God's saving grace, through combined action and prayer. "The Aboriginal people are starving for Jesus and His word!" Revival is rapidly spreading, but Australia is still a demonic stronghold. The worldwide church logistically needs a Christ like Australia to take Asia for Christ. Christianity is growing more rapidly amongst the Aborigines in Australia and Asia, especially in China, than in the rest of the population. The book presents a 12-year plan to evangelize Australia's coastal perimeter through the most accessible Aboriginal communities. A.C.T.S. vision of a reproducing, Christ like Australia, aided by a unified prayer evangelism network, supported by the world church, to conquer Asia for Christ by 2030 requires expansion in the A.C.T.S. organization, outreach, worldwide Action Prayer Network and budget in each of the next 12 years. Prior to founding A.C.T.S. in 1991 and permanently moving to Australia in 1996, Fred and Carol founded the Commonwealth of Massachusetts' first private business incubator, co-founded Salomon/North America, and helped create North American distribution companies for European sporting goods manufacturers such as Nordica, Puma and Fischer. Throughout the years, Fred and Carol amplified postgraduate education (MBA with distinction at the Kellogg School, Northwestern University and Tufts University, School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston) with studies at Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, where they also served on the President's board from 1983 till 1996. The Schaeffers have also served on a regional board of Gideons International and have been trained by and or partnered with the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, CRU (Campus Crusade for Christ), Bible Society-Australia, Wycliffe, and OMS International (One Mission Society). Fred and Carol continued their education at the Nazarene Theological College. Fred became an ordained elder of the Church of the Nazarene in 2000 and served as a pastor of multi-cultural churches in Enmore and Tweed Heads, N.S.W. In the past 25 years, well over 100 Christian Australian leaders have been assisted by A.C.T.S. to build a variety of fruitful enterprises and ministries. Since 2007, A.C.T.S. has used Fred and Carol's combined experience to direct the power of massive, united, action prayer and personal evangelism to build a rapidly reproducing network among 700+ Australian communities.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Evangelical Christianity is one of the most formative and least acknowledged movements in Australian history. This book accords evangelicals their rightful place in the development of Australian identity and values. Evangelicalism focuses on the Gospel, the God-given means not only of the salvation of individuals, but also of the renovation of society and culture. In this original and stimulating study, Stuart Piggin argues that evangelicalism is strongest when it synthesises Biblical orthodoxy with spiritual passion and human compassion. When this synthesis was achieved, it resulted in spiritual vitality and the strengthening of Australian nationhood. Based on interviews with a large number of Christian leaders and on a variety of often rare sources, Piggin's account throws light on matters as disparate as the character and motivation of early chaplains, the 'sinless perfection' movement at the University of Sydney in the 1930s, the Billy Graham Crusades, and disputes over the ordination of women. Evangelical Christianity: Spirit, Word and World traces the development of Biblical scholarship and the strengthening of Reformed Christianity, the surprisingly frequent incidence of genuine religious revival, and the creative commitment of evangelicals to the shaping of national values.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Exploring the response of evangelicals to the collapse of ‘Greater Christian Britain’ in Australia in the long 1960s, this book provides a new religious perspective to the end of empire and a fresh national perspective to the end of Christendom. In the turbulent 1960s, two foundations of the Western world rapidly and unexpectedly collapsed. ‘Christendom’, marked by the dominance of discursive Christianity in public culture, and ‘Greater Britain’, the powerful sentimental and strategic union of Britain and its settler societies, disappeared from the collective mental map with startling speed. To illuminate these contemporaneous global shifts, this book takes as a case study the response of Australian evangelical Christian leaders to the cultural and religious crises encountered between 1959 and 1979. Far from being a narrow national study, this book places its case studies in the context of the latest North American and European scholarship on secularisation, imperialism and evangelicalism. Drawing on a wide range of archival sources, it examines critical figures such as Billy Graham, Fred Nile and Hans Mol, as well as issues of empire, counter-cultural movements and racial and national identity. This study will be of particular interest to any scholar of Evangelicalism in the twentieth century. It will also be a useful resource for academics looking into the wider impacts of the decline of Christianity and the British Empire in Western civilisation.
