Download or read book The Cat in Grandfather's House written by Carl Henry Grabo and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2022-11-21 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Cat in Grandfather's House is a children's fantasy novel by Carl Henry Grabo. A young girl is sent to spend the summer with her grandparents in a large house that has strange occurrences. Excerpt: "In Grandmother's room there were tall south windows reaching nearly to the ceiling. It must have been bright with sunshine in midday, but it was nearly evening now and the lower halves of the windows were closed with white shutters, which gave the room a very cosy appearance. In the white marble fireplace a cheerful fire was burning, and above it on the mantel was a large stuffed owl as white as the marble on which he was perched. He seemed quite alive and very wise, his great yellow eyes shining in the firelight. Hortense glanced at him now and then, and always his bright eyes seemed fixed upon her."
Download or read book Maria written by John Mazur and published by Dorrance Publishing. This book was released on 2023-04-05 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About the Book Maria is a simple true story of love at first sight, involving the tragedies of Nature and each individual’s determination to overcome and succeed. Nostalgia comes not before or during its reading but after, upon reflection, and it is not only for the two lovers, but also for the reader. Dramatic and somewhat comical, our lovers are those who endure and perform each encouraging the other, achieving the most marvelous goodness in the quest of their happiness. For who could doubt that it is this woman who gives her man the impetus, the added adrenaline, to give reality to his life’s quest to focus, and the many ideas to explore and to question, if he so chooses. Maria and Andrei, the lead characters, are indicative of how the author honestly sees their love and its calling in life. Perhaps this is too much for today’s reader; perhaps too ideal. Yet, let it be known, it is all real. For who without such goodness, has anything for which to live. Their youth is gone; their time slipping away because time is simple reality, vis-à-vis, a fortuitous, unexpected meeting: a partner, each yearning for the other, both in love one minute gone the next. About the Author John Mazur graduated from Montana University with a masters in 19th century German theatre and English literature. He was born in Chicago, to a second-generation Polish meat packer and a German mother who played piano in the Chicago Park District. His heart was captured by Montana and the breathtaking beauty and grounded people he met there. Both Montana and Chicago have influenced his writing. His desire to bring back the liberal arts to society, along with its soul-changing influence is evident in his writing. His careers have spanned from teaching at the University level to Principal on the Blackfeet Indian Reservation. He has trained under a master sausage maker from Warsaw, Poland and run two separate sausage plants. For years, his teachers and friends told him to write. His first book was He Said, She Said. In his writing, he invests time and energy into his characters and the vision of their relationships as the stories unfold for the reader to enjoy.
Download or read book Trust No Aunty written by Maria Qamar and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2017-08-01 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Based on her popular Instagram @Hatecopy and her experience in a South Asian immigrant family, artist Maria Qamar has created a humorous, illustrated “survival guide” to deal with overbearing “Aunties,” whether they’re family members, annoying neighbors, or just some random ladies throwing black magic your way. We’ve all experienced interference from our Aunties—they are at family parties and friendly get-togethers, finding ways to make your life difficult, trying to get you to marry their sons, and telling you to lose weight while simultaneously feeding you a second dinner—and it has stunted our social growth and embarrassed us in front of our friends and cool cousins for years. This tongue-in-cheek guide is full of advice designed to help you manage Aunty meddling and encourages you to pursue your passions—from someone who has been through it all. Qamar confesses to throwing sweatshirts over crop-tops to get out of the house without being questioned, hiding her boyfriend in a closet, and enduring overbearing parents endless pressuring her to become a doctor, lawyer, or engineer. Holding onto your cultural identity is tough. Always interfering Aunties make it even harder. But ultimately, Aunties keep our lives interesting. As an Aunty-survivor and a woman who has lived the cross-cultural experience, Qamar defied the advice of her aunties almost every step of the way, and she is here to remind you: Trust No Aunty.
