Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This atlas contains excellent clinical and histopathologic images and text of each of the types of cutaneous lymphoma (around 25 entities). It is the first go-to text for those who are considering a diagnosis of cutaneous lymphoma in their differential diagnosis. The text also includes diagnostic mimics of lymphoma and differential diagnosis tables and algorithms. The target audience is general practitioners, dermatologists, pathologists and students, residents and fellows. The diagnosis of lymphoma in the skin is confounded by the myriad of disorders that can mimic lymphoma clinically and histopathologically and by inconsistencies in the diagnostic classification that have only recently been resolved. In the last decade the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) Cutaneous Lymphoma Group and the World Health Organization (WHO) Collaborated in a series of workshops and consensus meetings to arrive at a definitive classification scheme for cutaneous lymphoma. Unfortunately, the publication by the WHO that described this schema included all lymphomas and has the skin tumors scattered throughout the volume. There is currently no go to text for those who are considering a diagnosis of cutaneous lymphoma in their differential diagnosis. As a result there continues to be confusion about the diagnosis of cutaneous lymphoma, although this classification scheme was published in 2008.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Skin lymphomas are relatively rare. They may arise in the skin itself and as a by-product of HIV infection, or may arise elsewhere as a result of Hodgkin's disease, B cell lymphomas or leukaemia. Whatever the cause, they can easily be overlooked as psoriasis or dermatitis. Diagnosis of skin lymphoma is difficult and making the wrong diagnosis can prove fatal. Consequently, those in training in dermatology and pathology need to have a good understanding of the clinical presentations and the pathological correlates of this challenging disease. An Illustrated Guide to Skin Lymphoma is a beautiful full-colour illustrated text and atlas that combines pathology with clinical features and treatment. This second edition includes the latest classification systems for cutaneous lymphomas as well as brand new chapters and an expanded section on treatment.

The book starts off with a clinical atlas and introduction to the ontogeny and biology of the lymphoid system. Next, the authors explore novel molecular approaches to the diagnosis of cutaneous lymphoid proliferations and benign lymphocytic infiltrates. The remaining chapters concentrate on major inflammatory skin diseases and lymphoproliferative disorders, including chronic lymphocytic leukemia, lupus, adult T cell leukemia, and primary cutaneous Hodgkin's disease. As a reference to lymphocytic infiltrates, this book is unsurpassed. Novice and experienced practitioners alike will gain important insights into the field, including: The role of the immune system in the pathogenesis of cutaneous disease Relationships between therapeutic drugs and cutaneous eruptions Important drug reactions Hundreds of full-color, high-quality clinical and histologic photographs help readers visualize the various infiltrates and their treatments. Book excerpt: The Editor of this publication is Dr Elise Olsen, Director of the Duke University Cutaneous Lymphoma Research and Treatment Center and professor of Dermatology and Oncology. In 2014, cutaneous lymphoma (CL) is considered a chronic, non-life threatening disease since the majority of patients are diagnosed at early stage, though progression to later stages does result in death from the disease. This issue covers T-cell and B-cell lymphomas, with content emphasis on Mycoides fungoides and Sezary syndrome, the two most common clinically encountered subtypes of CL. Pharmaceutical treatment of the disease is a part of each article and the issue uses the following Treatment outline: Mechanisms of action - Pharmacokinetics - Typical dosing - Response to therapy - Adverse effects - and Pearls to help management using the agent under discussion. Beyond Dermatologists, specialists who would find the information useful are Cancer specialists, Hematologists/Oncologists, Physician Assistants, Nurse Practitioners, and Pharmacists. Some of the topics, written by the word's top experts in this disease, are: Overview of primary cutaneous lymphomas and the applicable staging and classification; Pathologic diagnosis of cutaneous lymphomas; in the section on Mycosis Fungoides and Sezary Syndrome, the clinician and researcher will find such topics as Skin directed medications; Phototherapy; Systemic retinoids; Interferons; HDAC inhibiotrs, Methotrexate and praletexate, along with other chemotherapeutic agents. Also, Bone marrow transplant; Diagnosis and management of CD30+ Lymphoproliferative disorders; and Diagnosis and management of primary cutaneous B cell lymphomas.

Book excerpt: The term "lymphoma" was originally used by Billroth in 1871 [55], and by Virehow [763] some years before that, for the designation of swelling of lymph nodes that was not due to "eareinoma, sareoma, ehondroma, myxoma, ete." In his paper, Billroth reeounted sueeessful treatment with arsenie (" Fowler's solution") of multiple "lymphomas" that had developed in a 40-year-old woman during a 10-month period. From this report it is not entirely clear if the multiple" lymphomas" deseribed were infeetious or if they were eonsis te nt with what we now mean by "malignant lymphoma." Today, the term "malignant lymphoma" is generally used eolleetively for malignant lymphoproliferative neoplasms that tend to arise in lymph nodes and also eneompasses Hodgkin's disease and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas. The adjeetive "malignant" seems somewhat superfluous sinee, in addition to Bill roth's original eonnotation, the sense of malignaney is nowadays read into the word "lymphoma." To be sure, true, i. e., malignant, lymphomas have to be differentiated from "pseudolymphomas," or to put it more exaetly, "pseudomalignant lymphomas." In this book, "lymphoma" and "malignant lymphoma" are used interehan geably for malignant neoplastie lymphoproliferative disorders, and "pseudo lymphoma" is used for benign lymphomatous proeesses. Our editorial eonsultant, Dr. M. Leider, disagrees with all of this. In his Dictionary of Dermatological Words, Terms, and Phrases [421] and other works, he maintains that there is no etymologieal basis for words bearing the eontrived suffix"--Oma" or the true Greek suffix"--ma" to denote malignaney

Book excerpt: Knowledge of cutaneous lymphomas has been growing significantly as a result of important discoveries in immunology, molecular biology, and immunohistochemistry. Improved clinical pathologic correlation and follow-up data, as well as the synergistic collaboration among different lymphoma registries and specialists from several academic medical centers have greatly contributed to the understanding of the difficult field of cutaneous lymphoproliferative disorders. While these advances have increased understanding of skin lymphomas, they have also produced an extensive and sometimes confusing litany of articles, studies, and classification schemes. This issue on Cutaneous Lymphomas in Surgical Pathology Clinics provides an organized and updated review of this challenging topic by leading experts. It bridges critical knowledge gaps in the diagnosis of cutaneous lymphomas. Sezary Syndrome, Mycosis Fungoides and variants are presented along with B-cell, CD30, lymphoproliferative disorders among others. In addition to multiple clinical and microscopic images, tables and algorithms are presented to aid in diagnosis and staging. Beyond its usefulness to general pathologists, dermatopathologists, and hematopathologists, this information is intended to be helpful for dermatologists, hematologists/oncologists, fellows, and residents.
