Book Synopsis Asymptotic Behavior and Stability Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations by : Lamberto Cesari

This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 282 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few decades the theory of ordinary differential equations has grown rapidly under the action of forces which have been working both from within and without: from within, as a development and deepen ing of the concepts and of the topological and analytical methods brought about by LYAPUNOV, POINCARE, BENDIXSON, and a few others at the turn of the century; from without, in the wake of the technological development, particularly in communications, servomechanisms, auto matic controls, and electronics. The early research of the authors just mentioned lay in challenging problems of astronomy, but the line of thought thus produced found the most impressive applications in the new fields. The body of research now accumulated is overwhelming, and many books and reports have appeared on one or another of the multiple aspects of the new line of research which some authors call" qualitative theory of differential equations". The purpose of the present volume is to present many of the view points and questions in a readable short report for which completeness is not claimed. The bibliographical notes in each section are intended to be a guide to more detailed expositions and to the original papers. Some traditional topics such as the Sturm comparison theory have been omitted. Also excluded were all those papers, dealing with special differential equations motivated by and intended for the applications.

Book Synopsis Asymptotic Analysis by : Mikhail V. Fedoryuk
Download or read book Asymptotic Analysis written by Mikhail V. Fedoryuk and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 370 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book we present the main results on the asymptotic theory of ordinary linear differential equations and systems where there is a small parameter in the higher derivatives. We are concerned with the behaviour of solutions with respect to the parameter and for large values of the independent variable. The literature on this question is considerable and widely dispersed, but the methods of proofs are sufficiently similar for this material to be put together as a reference book. We have restricted ourselves to homogeneous equations. The asymptotic behaviour of an inhomogeneous equation can be obtained from the asymptotic behaviour of the corresponding fundamental system of solutions by applying methods for deriving asymptotic bounds on the relevant integrals. We systematically use the concept of an asymptotic expansion, details of which can if necessary be found in [Wasow 2, Olver 6]. By the "formal asymptotic solution" (F.A.S.) is understood a function which satisfies the equation to some degree of accuracy. Although this concept is not precisely defined, its meaning is always clear from the context. We also note that the term "Stokes line" used in the book is equivalent to the term "anti-Stokes line" employed in the physics literature.

Book Synopsis Stability Theory of Differential Equations by : Richard Bellman
Download or read book Stability Theory of Differential Equations written by Richard Bellman and published by Courier Corporation. This book was released on 2013-02-20 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suitable for advanced undergraduates and graduate students, this was the first English-language text to offer detailed coverage of boundedness, stability, and asymptotic behavior of linear and nonlinear differential equations. It remains a classic guide, featuring material from original research papers, including the author's own studies. The linear equation with constant and almost-constant coefficients receives in-depth attention that includes aspects of matrix theory. No previous acquaintance with the theory is necessary, since author Richard Bellman derives the results in matrix theory from the beginning. In regard to the stability of nonlinear systems, results of the linear theory are used to drive the results of Poincaré and Liapounoff. Professor Bellman then surveys important results concerning the boundedness, stability, and asymptotic behavior of second-order linear differential equations. The final chapters explore significant nonlinear differential equations whose solutions may be completely described in terms of asymptotic behavior. Only real solutions of real equations are considered, and the treatment emphasizes the behavior of these solutions as the independent variable increases without limit.
Book Synopsis Asymptotic Behavior of Monodromy by : Carlos Simpson
Download or read book Asymptotic Behavior of Monodromy written by Carlos Simpson and published by Springer. This book was released on 1991 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book concerns the question of how the solution of a system of ODE's varies when the differential equation varies. The goal is to give nonzero asymptotic expansions for the solution in terms of a parameter expressing how some coefficients go to infinity. A particular classof families of equations is considered, where the answer exhibits a new kind of behavior not seen in most work known until now. The techniques include Laplace transform and the method of stationary phase, and a combinatorial technique for estimating the contributions of terms in an infinite series expansion for the solution. Addressed primarily to researchers inalgebraic geometry, ordinary differential equations and complex analysis, the book will also be of interest to applied mathematicians working on asymptotics of singular perturbations and numerical solution of ODE's.
Book Synopsis Asymptotic Issues For Some Partial Differential Equations (Second Edition) by : Michel Marie Chipot
Download or read book Asymptotic Issues For Some Partial Differential Equations (Second Edition) written by Michel Marie Chipot and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-04-15 with total page 283 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary focus of the book is to explore the asymptotic behavior of problems formulated within cylindrical structures. Various physical applications are discussed, with certain topics such as fluid flows in channels being particularly noteworthy. Additionally, the book delves into the relevance of elasticity in the context of cylindrical bodies. In specific scenarios where the size of the cylinder becomes exceptionally large, the material's behavior is determined solely by its cross-section. The investigation centers around understanding these particular properties.Since the publication of the first edition, several significant advancements have been made, adding depth and interest to the content. Consequently, new sections have been incorporated into the existing edition, complemented by a comprehensive list of references.

Download or read book Stability of Differential Equations with Aftereffect written by N.V. Azbelev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-10-03 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Stability of Differential Equations with Aftereffect presents stability theory for differential equations concentrating on functional differential equations with delay, integro-differential equations, and related topics. The authors provide background material on the modern theory of functional differential equations and introduce some new flexible methods for investigating the asymptotic behaviour of solutions to a range of equations. The treatment also includes some results from the authors' research group based at Perm and provides a useful reference text for graduates and researchers working in mathematical and engineering science.
