Book Synopsis Global Behavior of Nonlinear Difference Equations of Higher Order with Applications by : V.L. Kocic
Download or read book Global Behavior of Nonlinear Difference Equations of Higher Order with Applications written by V.L. Kocic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-03-09 with total page 237 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear difference equations of order greater than one are of paramount impor tance in applications where the (n + 1)st generation (or state) of the system depends on the previous k generations (or states). Such equations also appear naturally as discrete analogues and as numerical solutions of differential and delay differential equations which model various diverse phenomena in biology, ecology, physiology, physics, engineering and economics. Our aim in this monograph is to initiate a systematic study of the global behavior of solutions of nonlinear scalar difference equations of order greater than one. Our primary concern is to study the global asymptotic stability of the equilibrium solution. We are also interested in whether the solutions are bounded away from zero and infinity, in the description of the semi cycles of the solutions, and in the existence of periodic solutions. This monograph contains some recent important developments in this area together with some applications to mathematical biology. Our intention is to expose the reader to the frontiers of the subject and to formulate some important open problems that require our immediate attention.

Book Synopsis International Symposium on Nonlinear Differential Equations and Nonlinear Mechanics by : Joseph Lasalle
Download or read book International Symposium on Nonlinear Differential Equations and Nonlinear Mechanics written by Joseph Lasalle and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 521 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonlinear Differential Equations and Nonlinear Mechanics provides information pertinent to nonlinear differential equations, nonlinear mechanics, control theory, and other related topics. This book discusses the properties of solutions of equations in standard form in the infinite time interval. Organized into 49 chapters, this book starts with an overview of the characteristic types of differential equation systems with small parameters. This text then explains the structurally stable fields on a differentiable two manifold are the ones that exhibit the simplest features. Other chapters explore the canonic system of hyperbolic partial differential equations with fixed characteristics. This book discusses as well the monofrequent oscillations that are predominantly near one or the other of the linear modes of motion. The final chapter deals with the existence and asymptotic character of solutions of the nonlinear boundary value problem. This book is a valuable resource for pure and applied mathematicians. Aircraft engineers will also find this book useful.

Familiarity with real and complex analysis, elements of general topology and functional analysis, and differential and integral equations is assumed.
Book Synopsis Introduction to the Theory and Application of Differential Equations with Deviating Arguments by : L.E. El'sgol'ts
Download or read book Introduction to the Theory and Application of Differential Equations with Deviating Arguments written by L.E. El'sgol'ts and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1973-11-02 with total page 356 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to the Theory and Application of Differential Equations with Deviating Arguments 2nd edition is a revised and substantially expanded edition of the well-known book of L. E. El’sgol’ts published under this same title by Nauka in 1964. Extensions of the theory of differential equations with deviating argument as well as the stimuli of developments within various fields of science and technology contribute to the need for a new edition. This theory in recent years has attracted the attention of vast numbers of researchers, interested both in the theory and its applications. The development of the foundations of the theory of differential equations with a deviating argument is still far from complete. This situation, of course, leaves its mark on our suggestions to the reader of the book and prevents as orderly and systematic a presentation as is usual for mathematical literature. However, it is hoped that in spite of these deficiencies the book will prove useful as a first acquaintanceship with the theory of differential equations with a deviating argument.
Book Synopsis Asymptotic Behavior and Stability Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations by : Lamberto Cesari
Download or read book Asymptotic Behavior and Stability Problems in Ordinary Differential Equations written by Lamberto Cesari and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-09 with total page 278 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last few decades the theory of ordinary differential equations has grown rapidly under the action of forces which have been working both from within and without: from within, as a development and deepen ing of the concepts and of the topological and analytical methods brought about by LYAPUNOV, POINCARE, BENDIXSON, and a few others at the turn of the century; from without, in the wake of the technological development, particularly in communications, servomechanisms, auto matic controls, and electronics. The early research of the authors just mentioned lay in challenging problems of astronomy, but the line of thought thus produced found the most impressive applications in the new fields. The body of research now accumulated is overwhelming, and many books and reports have appeared on one or another of the multiple aspects of the new line of research which some authors call "qualitative theory of differential equations". The purpose of the present volume is to present many of the view points and questions in a readable short report for which completeness is not claimed. The bibliographical notes in each section are intended to be a guide to more detailed expositions and to the original papers. Some traditional topics such as the Sturm comparison theory have been omitted. Also excluded were all those papers, dealing with special differential equations motivated by and intended for the applications.

Book Synopsis Advanced Topics in Difference Equations by : R.P. Agarwal
Download or read book Advanced Topics in Difference Equations written by R.P. Agarwal and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-04-17 with total page 517 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: . The theory of difference equations, the methods used in their solutions and their wide applications have advanced beyond their adolescent stage to occupy a central position in Applicable Analysis. In fact, in the last five years, the proliferation of the subject is witnessed by hundreds of research articles and several monographs, two International Conferences and numerous Special Sessions, and a new Journal as well as several special issues of existing journals, all devoted to the theme of Difference Equations. Now even those experts who believe in the universality of differential equations are discovering the sometimes striking divergence between the continuous and the discrete. There is no doubt that the theory of difference equations will continue to play an important role in mathematics as a whole. In 1992, the first author published a monograph on the subject entitled Difference Equations and Inequalities. This book was an in-depth survey of the field up to the year of publication. Since then, the subject has grown to such an extent that it is now quite impossible for a similar survey, even to cover just the results obtained in the last four years, to be written. In the present monograph, we have collected some of the results which we have obtained in the last few years, as well as some yet unpublished ones.
