Book excerpt: Sakoian and Acker's Astrological Anthology brings together four diverse yet complementary topics. Each chapter offers practical insights into astrological interpretation techniques that can be used to access deeper levels of the chart. The Importance of Mercury in the Horoscope: Enhance your interpretation of this planet with the meanings of Mercury in the signs, elements, houses, and decanates, and when linked to other planets. The Minor Aspects: This section covers the meanings of the minor aspects and their planetary and sign significance. Each aspect is explained in detail, including the houses, signs, planets, and decanates that shape its meaning. Interpreting Major and Minor Approaching and Departing Aspects: In this part of the book, the authors explain the difference between applying/separating and approaching/departing aspects and how each is interpreted. Families of aspects are defined, and specific information is included for fourteen individual aspects. Also included is a summary of the meanings of the aspects. The Ladder of the Planets: Planetary rulership is a significant part of chart interpretation, and in this section the authors explain the rationale of this long-standing technique used by astrologers. They explain the reasoning behind planetary rulership of the modern planets (Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto), as well as why specific rulerships were assigned to the visible planets. Each of the rulerships is defined, adding depth to interpretation.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Eastern astrology has been gaining popularity ever since the astrological community started to reexplore classical astrology. Where astrology fell into disfavor in Western circles and was only used for medical reasons after the papal bull issued in the early 1600s, it did not suffer that fate in India and China. For centuries, astrology has been used and highly respected in the East by the rich and poor alike. Why? Because it works. The astrology used in the East is very different than the systems used here in the West. To introduce contemporary astrologers to the modern value of these ancient traditions, this anthology provides a collection of outstanding essays by eight leading astrologers. Thomas Moore, the well-known author of Care of the Soul and Soul Mates, introduces this work with "the Astrological Vision," followed by: Astrology & The Chakras by Ray Grasse, The Degrees of the Zodiac & the I Ching by Robin Armstrong, Chinese Five-Element (Tzu P'ing) Astrology by Bill Watson, Tibetan Astrology by Michael Erlewine, The Humanism of Vedic Astrology by Hart deFouw, The Easter Moon through Western Eyes by Dennis Flaherty, Prediction East by James Braha, Life & Death East & West by Richard Houck. The authors' diverse backgrounds bring a wealth of experience to this collection: Robin Armstrong is an astrological consultant and teacher, and author of Windowsbased astrology program Stars in Sight; James Braha is the author of Ancient Hindu Astrology for the Modern Western Astrologer, and How to Predict Your Future: Secrets of Easter and Western Astrology; Hard deFouw is co-author with Dr. Robert E. Svoboda of Light on Life: An Introduction to the Astrology of India; Michael Erlewine, founder of Matrix, is the author of The Sun is Shining and The Manual of Computer Programming for Astrologers; Dennis Flaherty is the author of Mythic Measurements of the Moon's Nodes, published in the anthology Astrology's Special Measurements; Ray Grasse is the author of The Waking Dream; Richard Houck is the author of The Astrology of Death; and Bill Watson has published numerous articles in both Chinese and English on business forecasting and management.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robert Cross Smith (1795-1832) was an astrologer, magician, and geomancer. Smith founded the periodicals, “The Straggling Astrologer” and “The Familiar Astrologer”, which published magical material as well as astrological advice. The magical material dealt with topics as varied as alchemy, charms, the virtues of herbs and stones, invoking spirits into crystals, evoking demons, evoking spirits into circles, necromancy, invoking the fairy king Oberion, writings about fairies, geomancy, palmistry, physiognomy, divination by the “Wheel of Pythagoras”, and Behmenist Theosophy. “A Sorcerous Anthology” collects these writings, plus several pieces from Smith’s other publications, and presents them for the first time in one place. Certain of the writings have not been in print since the 1840s, and none have been presented without the other content of the magazines. Divided into four parts, “A Sorcerous Anthology” contains sections on Divination, Low Magic, and High Magic, as well as selections on the history of astrology and the powers of the planets, Smith’s original introductions to the publications, and an obituary and horoscope for Smith written by fellow astrologer “Zadkiel”.

Book excerpt: Hellenistic astrology is a tradition of horoscopic astrology that was practiced in the Mediterranean region from approximately the first century BCE until the seventh century CE. It is the source of many of the modern traditions of astrology that still flourish around the world today, although it is only recently that many of the surviving texts of this tradition have become available again for astrologers to study. Hellenistic Astrology: The Study of Fate and Fortune is one of the first comprehensive surveys of this tradition in modern times. The book covers the history, philosophy, and techniques of ancient astrology, with a special focus on demonstrating how many of the fundamental concepts underlying the practice of western astrology originated during the Hellenistic period.
