Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Part 1 of this document explains water use & allocation provisions of the Manitoba Water Rights Act, including those related to the water use licensing program, water supply budget management, and the licensing of water rights. Part 2 describes the water budget of the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer, which underlies a land surface of 1,500 square miles along the boundary between the Lake Manitoba basin and the Assiniboine River basin. It includes information on the aquifer sustained yield & developable yield, the water allocation limit, current water demand & allocation, irrigation water use requirements, & other water use, and discusses issues related to future water use & allocation. Projections of water demand at 11 aquifer locations are included. The final part reviews current licensing initiatives such as an audit of licensed projects, hiring of staff to support licensing, water use monitoring, an irrigation wellhead inventory, and well pump testing.

Book Synopsis Economic Value of Groundwater in the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer in Manitoba by : Surendra Nath Kulshreshtha
Download or read book Economic Value of Groundwater in the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer in Manitoba written by Surendra Nath Kulshreshtha and published by Canada, Environmental Conservation Service. This book was released on 1994 with total page 88 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This study was undertaken to ascertain the economic value of groundwater in the Assiniboine delta aquifer of Manitoba. The aquifer is located in a predominantly agricultural region, as reflected in the fact that almost 69% of all withdrawal use is for agricultural purposes. The valuation procedure followed in the study was limited to the use-related value of water. This valuation was conducted using two different perspectives: economic efficiency and regional development"--Abstract.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'This book bridges disciplines, previously confined to specialist journal publications, by providing a comprehensive overview of the systems analysis application to water resources. It is ideal for Masters-level courses in Water Resources Engineering where modern management techniques of optimization and modelling are highly important in the strategic management of a vital resource.' - Derek Clarke, University of Southampton, UK 'The great novelty of this book is that it presents in detail how fuzzy-set theory can be used in water resource system management. The author was one of the pioneers who opened up this new field and is considered to be one of the greatest experts in it.' - Rodolfo Soncini Sessa, Politecnico di Milano, Italy Water resources management is increasingly interdisciplinary and must take into account complex socioeconomic factors and environmental variables. This book describes the 'systems approach' and its application to contemporary water resources management, focusing on three main sets of tools: simulation, optimization and multi-objective analysis. This approach is presented within the context of sustainable planning and development under conditions of uncertainty. Managing Water Resources: Methods and Tools for a Systems Approach introduces system dynamic simulation as a tool for integrated modelling and contains coverage of the use of fuzzy sets for incorporating objective and subjective uncertainties. The book combines theory with many practical examples, as well as including programs and exercises on downloadable resources. It comprises both an advanced text for students of water resources and civil or environmental engineering and a practical guide for professionals. Published jointly with UNESCO and International Hydrological Programme
Book Synopsis Recharge Estimation from Return Flow on Irrigated Land in the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer by : Xueke Jia
Download or read book Recharge Estimation from Return Flow on Irrigated Land in the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer written by Xueke Jia and published by . This book was released on 2022 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Assiniboine Delta Aquifer (ADA) is the largest unconfined aquifer and the main water supply for agricultural production in Manitoba, Canada. Groundwater has a critical role in irrigated agriculture to ensure food security, and aquifer recharge is a key to groundwater management. While aquifers are primarily recharged from rainfall and surface sources, return flow from irrigation water can recharge during cropping seasons. The previous studies on the ADA used the water budget method to estimate the recharge but not return flow through irrigation. In this study, both the groundwater recharge and return flow through irrigation water to the ADA were estimated numerically by using HYDRUS-1D. The data were retrieved from soil sensors and weather stations installed at each selected site. This study used three stations on cropland, and three on pastureland. The soil properties used to construct the numerical models were determined by laboratory experiments and retrieved from the Canada-Manitoba Crop Diversification Centre (CMCDC). The numerical models were calibrated by altering the van Genuchten-Mualem (VGM) parameters to match the observed and estimated soil water content. This modelling step was carried out by coupling HYDRUS-1D with Pareto Archived Dynamically Dimensioned Search (PA-DDS) using MATLAB. The results of this research showed that the estimated groundwater recharge based on simulations for the 2019 and 2020 cropping seasons was significantly higher than reported in previous studies and that the return flow on the irrigated cropland positively impacted the groundwater recharge. Return flow was higher in 2019 which was considered a normal year and reduces strongly in the dry year of 2020. The outcomes would be beneficial for new water licensing, an increase in agricultural production, and more importantly, sustainable groundwater management of the Assiniboine Delta Aquifer by limiting the environmental impact from the irrigation withdrawals .
