Book Synopsis The Dirac Spectrum by : Nicolas Ginoux
Download or read book The Dirac Spectrum written by Nicolas Ginoux and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-06-11 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume surveys the spectral properties of the spin Dirac operator. After a brief introduction to spin geometry, we present the main known estimates for Dirac eigenvalues on compact manifolds with or without boundaries. We give examples where the spectrum can be made explicit and present a chapter dealing with the non-compact setting. The methods mostly involve elementary analytical techniques and are therefore accessible for Master students entering the subject. A complete and updated list of references is also included.
Book Synopsis Dirac Operators in Riemannian Geometry by : Thomas Friedrich
Download or read book Dirac Operators in Riemannian Geometry written by Thomas Friedrich and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2000 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Examines the Dirac operator on Riemannian manifolds, especially its connection with the underlying geometry and topology of the manifold. The presentation includes a review of Clifford algebras, spin groups and the spin representation, as well as a review of spin structures and spin [superscript C] structures. With this foundation established, the Dirac operator is defined and studied, with special attention to the cases of Hermitian manifolds and symmetric spaces. Then, certain analytic properties are established, including self-adjointness and the Fredholm property. An important link between the geometry and the analysis is provided by estimates for the eigenvalues of the Dirac operator in terms of the scalar curvature and the sectional curvature. Considerations of Killing spinors and solutions of the twistor equation on M lead to results about whether M is an Einstein manifold or conformally equivalent to one. Finally, in an appendix, Friedrich gives a concise introduction to the Seiberg-Witten invariants, which are a powerful tool for the study of four-manifolds. There is also an appendix reviewing principal bundles and connections.
Book Synopsis Spectral Geometry of Manifolds with Boundary and Decomposition of Manifolds by : Gerd Grubb
Download or read book Spectral Geometry of Manifolds with Boundary and Decomposition of Manifolds written by Gerd Grubb and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2005 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, increasingly complex methods have been brought into play in the treatment of geometric and topological problems for partial differential operators on manifolds. This collection of papers, resulting from a Workshop on Spectral Geometry of Manifolds with Boundary and Decomposition of Manifolds, provides a broad picture of these methods with new results. Subjects in the book cover a wide variety of topics, from recent advances in index theory and the more general boundary, to applications of those invariants in geometry, topology, and physics. Papers are grouped into four parts: Part I gives an overview of the subject from various points of view. Part II deals with spectral invariants, such as geometric and topological questions. Part IV deals specifically with problems on manifolds with singularities. The book is suitable for graduate students and researchers interested in spectral problems in geometry.

Book Synopsis Global Analysis on Open Manifolds by : Jürgen Eichhorn
Download or read book Global Analysis on Open Manifolds written by Jürgen Eichhorn and published by Nova Publishers. This book was released on 2007 with total page 664 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Global analysis is the analysis on manifolds. Since the middle of the sixties there exists a highly elaborated setting if the underlying manifold is compact, evidence of which can be found in index theory, spectral geometry, the theory of harmonic maps, many applications to mathematical physics on closed manifolds like gauge theory, Seiberg-Witten theory, etc. If the underlying manifold is open, i.e. non-compact and without boundary, then most of the foundations and of the great achievements fail. Elliptic operators are no longer Fredholm, the analytical and topological indexes are not defined, the spectrum of self-adjoint elliptic operators is no longer discrete, functional spaces strongly depend on the operators involved and the data from geometry, many embedding and module structure theorems do not hold, manifolds of maps are not defined, etc. It is the goal of this new book to provide serious foundations for global analysis on open manifolds, to discuss the difficulties and special features which come from the openness and to establish many results and applications on this basis.

It is intended for both graduate students and researchers.

Book Synopsis Relative Index Theory, Determinants And Torsion For Open Manifolds by : Jurgen Eichhorn
Download or read book Relative Index Theory, Determinants And Torsion For Open Manifolds written by Jurgen Eichhorn and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2009-05-29 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For closed manifolds, there is a highly elaborated theory of number-valued invariants, attached to the underlying manifold, structures and differential operators. On open manifolds, nearly all of this fails, with the exception of some special classes. The goal of this monograph is to establish for open manifolds, structures and differential operators an applicable theory of number-valued relative invariants. This is of great use in the theory of moduli spaces for nonlinear partial differential equations and mathematical physics. The book is self-contained: in particular, it contains an outline of the necessary tools from nonlinear Sobolev analysis.

The material will be of interest to researchers and graduate students in representation theory, differential geometry, and physics.
Book Synopsis Boundary Value Problems for Noncompact Boundaries of Spin C Manifolds and Spectral Estimates by : Nadine Grosse
Download or read book Boundary Value Problems for Noncompact Boundaries of Spin C Manifolds and Spectral Estimates written by Nadine Grosse and published by . This book was released on 2012 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We study boundary value problems for the Dirac operator on Riemannian Spinc manifolds of bounded geometry and with noncompact boundary. This generalizes a part of the theory of boundary value problems by C. Bar and W. Ballmann for complete manifolds with closed boundary. As an application, we derive the lower bound of Hijazi-Montiel-Zhang, involving the mean curvature of the boundary, for the spectrum of the Dirac operator on the noncompact boundary of a Spinc manifold. The limiting case is then studied and examples are then given.
