Book excerpt: It's 1952 and Mabel is feeling the weight of being a mother to three young children and running the bakery. And now that Mark knows he is Matthew's father, she's afraid Luke will discover the truth. In this gripping story about family, fate, and forgiveness, a number of characters from The Year With No Spring reprise their roles, including Lily and her protector, Ed Baxter, who is harbouring a secret of his own; one that could jeopardize his future with the woman he loves. Several new characters round out this richly woven story that delves into the punishing social norms of a bygone time, the fragile nature of relationships, the importance of forgiveness, and the possibility that our fates are predetermined. As always, Mabel is there to help her friends deal with their fears, doubts, and heartbreaking loss, even if it takes a toll on her own physical and emotional well-being. In this, the fifth instalment in The Bread Maker series, the author once again takes you on a nostalgic journey back in time. Her signature style of fast-paced, dramatic storylines, interspersed with bursts of humour, will intrigue, amuse, and surprise readers, leaving them to wonder what's next for the memorable cast of characters they've come to know and love.
Book Synopsis The Greenogress by : Elaine M. Mullen
Download or read book The Greenogress written by Elaine M. Mullen and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2016-01-15 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Poetry that is but also is not, taken to unusual levels in an imaginative style that always makes you wonder where you will be taken this time. Poetry, a few short stories and quotes serve as the launching pad for Elaine M. Mullen, also known as the GreenOgress, to introduce more writings that are novel and relevant. Their appeal lies in their diversity and scope: investigating, exploring and exposing both the lighter and darker shades of humanity. Closely followed by Google and known to many via Twitter, Scriggler. com and other writing platforms, she has charmed even the most reluctant of readers to give poetry a second glance and second chance. Be the topics simple or complex, contemporary or historical, internal or external, her maxim is that vague scripting is to be avoided at all costs: I will never use a fi ve-dollar word when a fi fty-cent one will do just as well. As with her three previous books, sit back, relax and enjoy the ride!
Book Synopsis The System of Things III by : Luis E. Sweeney
Download or read book The System of Things III written by Luis E. Sweeney and published by Fulton Books, Inc.. This book was released on 2021-02-22 with total page 162 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: About This Book This book was actually written about me. I had used the name John D. Robinson as the main character in my other two books titled, “ The System of Things I and II”. At that time I was still working for the government as a state trooper. I knew my superiors would retaliate against me and would try to terminate me for exposing the truth. Although I had since retired, I decided to continue using the name John D. Robinson. Unlike my first two books that was written in a worldly manner; this book was written in a way that it could be read in a church. I wanted to give everyone an opportunity to know what really takes place behind the closed doors of our government. This book was written as a result of the injustice and corruption that I had seen as well as being a victim thereof. It was written in attempt to show that our system of government and society; how great it is in comparison to other nations; it could be better once one understand and realize what our system and society has become due to the zeal to be number one and racism. Having that being said, I wanted everyone to know that I truly believe in the Constitution of the United States of America, the Magna Carta, and the Bill of Rights. Those were some of the reasons why I served my country during a time of war. I joined and wasn’t drafted. This book was written to show that I also believe in our symbol of justice and the mission statement of the Statue of Liberty. This book was written for the benefit of every human being regardless of the color of ones skin, gender, religion, origin of birth, and or whether one is an ally or foe, or whether one is innocent or guilty; for everyone should be given the same benefits and rights that this country offers. This book was written especially for the men and women who had chose to get involved in the political process and to those individuals who were involved in the Civil Rights Movement, who live and died taking a stand for justice. Most importantly, I hope this book through the trials and tribulations of John D. Robinson will open your eyes so that one would have a peace of mind in knowing that having faith is the key to surviving physically, mentally, and spiritually; in spite of the negative current events and pandemic taking place in the world today. Respectfully Yours Luis E. Sweeney/John D. Robinson

He shares some of the experiences and lessons he learned growing up in the food business (and in business in general). Book excerpt: New York Times bestselling author Jon Katz—“a Thoreau for modern times” (San Antonio Express-News)—offers us a deeper understanding of the inner lives of animals and teaches us how we can more effectively communicate with them, made real by his own remarkable experiences with a wide array of creatures great and small. In Talking to Animals, journalist Jon Katz—who left his Manhattan life behind two decades ago for life on a farm where he is surrounded by dogs, cats, sheep, horses, cows, goats, and chickens—marshals his experience to offer us a deeper insight into animals and the tools needed for effectively communicating with them. Devoting each chapter to a specific animal from his life, Katz tells funny and illuminating stories about his profound experiences with them, showing us how healthy engagement with animals falls into five key areas: Food, Movement, Visualization, Language, and Instincts. Along the way, we meet Simon the donkey who arrives at Katz’s farm near death and now serves as his Tai Chi partner. We meet Red the dog who started out antisocial and untrained and is now a therapy dog working with veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan. And we meet Winston, the dignified and brave rooster who was injured defending his hens from a hawk and who has better interpersonal skills than most humans. Thoughtful and intelligent, lively and powerful, this book will completely change the way you think about and interact with animals. Katz’s “honest, straightforward, and sometimes searing prose will speak to those who love animals, and might well convert some who do not” (Booklist).
