Book excerpt: In this book, you will find an insightful look into several subjects and ideas, things you find in the everyday as well as the deeply philosophical, presented in a way you may never have heard before. In our time, we often find ourselves on one extreme or the other, politically, ideologically, religiously, making relationships difficult. This book attempts to tackle some of the things hiding behind these differences in an attempt to find cohesion rather than dispute. Another issue in our time is the way authority often behaves and our reaction to it. Teachers often tell us what to think, rather than how to think. We are told to believe something, not because we?ve been told why it's believable but simply because they say so. Our reaction has been blunt, brutal honesty, as well as skepticism. A decent response to make, though it additionally separates us from one another. This book is an attempt to do some right where much has gone wrong, discussing ideas rather than forcing ideologies. Come away from this book with lots of new ideas and much to ponder.

Book excerpt: Life is a continual balancing act, and often the more we pursue balance, the more things seem to fall apart. All aspects of life - career, family, relationships, and health and wellbeing - are in perpetual motion, and it's this constant state of flux that makes it hard for us to attend to them in equal measure. The Little Book of Balance offers guidance from some of the world's greatest minds in the art of letting each aspect of life feed off each other equally. To lead a well-balanced life, we must first accept that balance isn't something we can control. 'Never get so busy making a living that you forget to make a life.' - Dolly Parton 'Doubt can motivate you, so don't be afraid of it. Confidence and doubt are at two ends of the scale, and you need both. They balance each other out.' - Barbra Streisand

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Power in Balance. We want God to be there with us constantly, whenever we want or need him, but we do not have enough time to spend with him. That is what it means to pray unceasingly, to be connected to him every minute of every day. I had to really go through the ultimate lesson in balance before I could write about it. After several years of limping, results of a very badly broken leg, God was trying to teach me something about balance. He taught me about how hard life can be when you are not in balance. How pain, both physical and emotional, can cause you to make wrong choices, throwing you off balance, causing even more pain. This is where the power of balance comes into play. This book is grounded in the Scriptures. When Jesus was asked what the most important commandment is, he said it is to love your God above all, but the second is love others as yourself. That is what the power of balance is all about.

Book excerpt: A “must-read” (The Washington Post) funny and practical guide to help you find, build, and keep the relationship of your dreams. Have you ever looked around and wondered, “Why has everyone found love except me?” You’re not the only one. Great relationships don’t just appear in our lives—they’re the culmination of a series of decisions, including whom to date, how to end it with the wrong person, and when to commit to the right one. But our brains often get in the way. We make poor decisions, which thwart us on our quest to find lasting love. Drawing from years of research, behavioral scientist turned dating coach Logan Ury reveals the hidden forces that cause those mistakes. But awareness on its own doesn’t lead to results. You have to actually change your behavior. Ury shows you how. This “simple-to-use guide” (Lori Gottlieb, New York Times bestselling author of Maybe You Should Talk to Someone) focuses on a different decision in each chapter, incorporating insights from behavioral science, original research, and real-life stories. You’ll learn: -What’s holding you back in dating (and how to break the pattern) -What really matters in a long-term partner (and what really doesn’t) -How to overcome the perils of online dating (and make the apps work for you) -How to meet more people in real life (while doing activities you love) -How to make dates fun again (so they stop feeling like job interviews) -Why “the spark” is a myth (but you’ll find love anyway) This “data-driven” (Time), step-by-step guide to relationships, complete with hands-on exercises, is designed to transform your life. How to Not Die Alone will help you find, build, and keep the relationship of your dreams.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The first mainstream book about meditative practice rock balancing—with practical guidance on letting go of limiting beliefs and finding happiness in the present moment Rock balancing is the practice of piling up stones in natural settings, creating everything from simple towers to amazingly elaborate and apparently gravity-defying edifices. People balance rocks for fun, to challenge themselves, and to connect to nature and focus on the present moment. This is the first mainstream book about the meditative art of rock balancing, combining technical advice with spectacular color photographs of the author’s own balances, as well as guidance on approaching rock balancing as a mindfulness meditation practice. As the book guides you through the practical techniques of rock balancing, it also explains how to breathe properly, how to approach the rocks with self-belief, and how to face fear and go beyond what you had previously thought to be your limits. Finally, it discusses how to let go and destroy the balances you have created, leaving nature in a pristine state. The book includes inspirational quotes, tips and step-by-step instructions for beginner and more advanced rock balancers, meditative exercises to do while balancing, and fun challenges. A rock balance is a metaphor for whatever you are trying to achieve in life—and this practice allows you to train yourself to do more than you ever thought possible.

Book excerpt: Compared to the rest of the world, Japan has a healthy population but pays relatively little for medical care. This book analyses how the health care works, and how it came into being. Taking a comparative perspective, the authors describe the politics of health care, the variety of providers, the universal health insurance system, and how the fee-schedule constrains costs at both the macro and micro levels. Special attention is paid to issues of quality and to the difficult problems of assuring adequate high-tech medicine and long-term care. Although the authors discuss the drawbacks to Japan's stringent cost-containment policy, they also keep in mind the possible implications for reform in the United States. Egalitarian values and a concern for 'balance' among constituents, the authors argue, are essential for cost containment as well as for access to health care.
