Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book examines how digital technology is being used to assist the artists and designers. The computer is able to store data and reproduce designs, thus facilitating the speed-up of the iterative process towards a final design which meets the objectives of the designer and the requirements of the user. Collaborative design enables the sharing of information across digital networks to produce designed objects in virtual spaces. Augmented and virtual reality techniques can be used to preview designs before they are finalized and implemented. Art and design have shaped the values, social structures, communications, and the culture of communities and civilisations. The direct involvement of artists and designers with their creative works has left a legacy enabling subsequent generations to understand more about their skills, their motivations, and their relationship to the wider world, and to see it from a variety of perspectives. This in turn causes the viewers of their works to reflect upon their meaning for today and the lasting value and implications of what has been created. Art installations are harnessing modern technology to process information and to display it. Such environments have also proved useful in engaging users and visitors with real-time images and interactive art.

Book excerpt: This open access book details the relationship between the artist and their created works, using tools such as information technology, computer environments, and interactive devices, for a range of information sources and application domains. This has produced new kinds of created works which can be viewed, explored, and interacted with, either as an installation or via a virtual environment such as the Internet. These processes generate new dimensions of understanding and experience for both the artist and the public’s relationships with the works that are produced. This has raised a variety of interdisciplinary opportunities and issues, and these are examined. The symbiotic relationship between artistic works and the cultural context in which they are produced is reviewed. Technology can provide continuity by making traditional methods and techniques more efficient and effective. It can also provide discontinuity by opening up new perspectives and paradigms. This can generate new ideas, and produce a greater understanding of artistic processes and how they are implemented in practice. Tools have been used from the earliest times to create and modify artistic works. For example, naturally occurring pigments have been used for cave paintings. What has been created provides insight into the cultural context and social environment at the time of creation. There is an interplay between the goal of the creator, the selection and use of appropriate tools, and the materials and representations chosen. Technology, Design and the Arts - Opportunities and Challenges is relevant for artists and technologists and those engaged in interdisciplinary research and development at the boundaries between these disciplines.

The unique data set can help answer some of the most pressing questions in this area. At first glance, museums and the art market may seem like two opposing forces, but actually they are two interrelated elements that work together to stimulate creativity, foster cultural exchange, and drive economic growth. The research delves into the complex relationship between these two entities and offers initial insights into the following questions: - How forthcoming are museum staff with sensitive data to support academic research? - What impact do masterpieces and „superstars“ have on visitor numbers? - Can certain exhibition formats reach more visitors? - How has the number of exhibitions over time affected attendance and museum budgets? - Does the museums‘ passion for collecting compete with the marketing demands of the art market, or do they rather benefit from each other? - Are the art market and the museum institution competing or complementary markets? - Compared to auction results, how does the gender gap between female and male artists compare in museum acquisitions? With this research, you‘ll gain access to valuable information that can help you make informed decisions about your creative and cultural industry investments.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data science addresses the need to extract knowledge and information from data volumes, often from real-time sources in a wide variety of disciplines such as astronomy, bioinformatics, engineering, science, medicine, social science, business, and the humanities. The range and volume of data sources has increased enormously over time, particularly those generating real-time data. This has posed additional challenges for data management and data analysis of the data and effective representation and display. A wide range of application areas are able to benefit from the latest visual tools and facilities. Rapid analysis is needed in areas where immediate decisions need to be made. Such areas include weather forecasting, the stock exchange, and security threats. In areas where the volume of data being produced far exceeds the current capacity to analyze all of it, attention is being focussed how best to address these challenges. Optimum ways of addressing large data sets across a variety of disciplines have led to the formation of national and institutional Data Science Institutes and Centers. Being driven by national priority, they are able to attract support for research and development within their organizations and institutions to bring together interdisciplinary expertise to address a wide variety of problems. Visual computing is a set of tools and methodologies that utilize 2D and 3D images to extract information from data. Such methods include data analysis, simulation, and interactive exploration. These are analyzed and discussed.

ADDT 2023 created a forum for idea sharing and research exchange, opened up new perspectives in related fields and broadened the horizons of all participants. In the conference, 100 individuals around the world took part in the conference. Divided into three parts, the conference agenda covered keynote speeches, oral presentations and online Q&A discussion. Firstly, the keynote speakers were each allocated 30-45 minutes to address their speeches. Then in the oral presentations, the excellent papers we had selected were presented by their authors one by one. We are glad to share with you that we’ve selected a bunch of high-quality papers from the submissions and compiled them into the proceedings after rigorously reviewing them. These papers feature but are not limited to the following topics: Computer Art, Visual Design, Digital Media, Innovative Technology, etc. All the papers have been checked through rigorous review and processes to meet the requirements of publication. We would like to acknowledge all of those who supported ADDT 2023 and made it a great success. In particular, we would like to thank the European Alliance for Innovation (EAI), for the hard work of all its colleagues in publishing this paper volume. We sincerely hope that the ADDT 2023 turned out to be a forum for excellent discussions that enable new ideas to come about, promoting collaborative research.
