Whilst lavishly illustrated with old photographs, it is a story of everyday life of the villagers. The second section, is specifically W.J.D.s writing in 1927. Many recent discoveries in the town may have made his observations incorrect, in relation to the age of buildings. As many years have passed since the initial author's death, the first section informs the reader of whom he was, interwoven with the family is local history, of previous generations.
