In describing her thirty-three-year journey as an Army wife, Cody gives an in-depth look at what it takes to keep a marriage strong, raise a family—oftentimes as a single parent—create a home, and face separations and loneliness amid the uncertainty and stresses that are so much a part of Army life. Over the years, Cody learns to embrace the uniqueness of her circumstances, and she finds joy, self-fulfillment, and pride in her role. But when both her sons follow in their dad’s footsteps, becoming Army Aviators and flying Apache helicopters in combat zones in Afghanistan and Iraq, Cody faces her greatest challenges as a mother and again, must balance the needs of her family with her husband’s position. Full of humor and honesty, Army Wife brings the reader into Cody’s private life in a very personal way, and in doing so opens the lens for a broader view of world events.
Book Synopsis Up Close And Personal by : David Lee
Download or read book Up Close And Personal written by David Lee and published by Frontline Books. This book was released on 2006-04-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This gripping book is about what it was really like to fight at the sharp end in World War II. In 1947, US General S. L. A Marshall controversially wrote that out of every one hundred combat soldiers only fifteen to twenty-five actually fired their weapons at the enemy, because of the innate human reluctance to take another's life. Others maintained the opposite view that soldiers enjoyed killing. David Lee demonstrates that the situation was far more complex than either of these positions, arguing that the crucial factor for a unit s success in battle was the type of training it received. To illustrate this Lee covers actions from each theatre of the war, in depth and with comprehensive coverage of weapons and tactics. First there is the story of what happened when a battalion of British soldiers trained in the traditional manner came up against the Waffen SS, whose training was formidable and bore close resemblance to the Commandos . The success of No. 4 Commando at Dieppe is covered to show how this was put into effect. For the desert war there is a detailed look at how a rifle battalion held the snipe position against overwhelming odds, and how that same battalion was virtually wiped out when it later went to Italy. For the Far East, Lee explains how hatred of the Japanese Army gave impetus to British soldiers fighting at Kohima and American soldiers at Iwo Jima. And finally there is the story of one US infantry regiment on D-Day.

Book Synopsis This Cool Green Earth by : Don McBurney
Download or read book This Cool Green Earth written by Don McBurney and published by Morgan James Publishing. This book was released on 2021-10-05 with total page 314 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Cool Green Earth is a Christian story of redemption, showing how God chooses an unlikely person to help advance His kingdom. After touring the state, Gil and his wife purchase a large ranch and provide safe shelter for disadvantaged boys from locations across America and middle Eastern refugees who have been displaced because of religious persecution. Israel’s re-establishment as a nation-state in 1948 began the final count-down to judgment and the arrival of extinction-level events, most notably an asteroid that threatens to impact Earth. This Cool Green Earth shows readers humanity’s depravity, issues a call to repentance, presents the twin realities of a loving, merciful God who is not a “tame lion”, and the imminent arrival of cataclysmic judgment. By reading Gil’s story, readers learn to take advantage of their opportunity while Earth is still cool and green, before it turns hot and dry. This Cool Green Earth is unique in that it presents a future that is catastrophic without being dystopian.

Book Synopsis Care Under Fire by : Bill Strusinski
Download or read book Care Under Fire written by Bill Strusinski and published by Wisdom Editions. This book was released on 2022-12-14 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: For many surviving military veterans, the Vietnam War is an indelible part of their lives. That they survived is due in many cases to the heroic, life-saving actions of combat medics like Bill "Doc" Strusinski. Being a frontline medic was, and still is, one of the most dangerous jobs in the Army. Medics were targeted by the enemy and often called upon to aid fallen soldiers in the line of fire. In Strusinski's riveting book, Care Under Fire, Strusinski thrusts the reader squarely into moments of terror during firefights, the exhaustion of endless patrols, the anguish of losing buddies despite best efforts to save them, and the intimate bonds created during times of desperate need. This is a book about war, yes, but even more about how one man was transformed by his "sacred duty" to offer care under fire to the young soldiers he fought beside.
