Book excerpt: This paper reviews state of the art for high level programming languages and traces their development from first generation computers to the present day. A review and comparison of industry and Army standards for program documentation is made and differences discussed. Based upon field interviews, findings concerning command unique documentation are presented. Conclusions indicate that more powerful and cost effectve high level languages are available for use and that documentation for command unique software is not adequate. Recommendations are made for securing a system language, establishing a central review and approval authority for software documentation, and for various follow up studies. (Author).

Book excerpt: ADP 6-22 describes enduring concepts of leadership through the core competencies and attributes required of leaders of all cohorts and all organizations, regardless of mission or setting. These principles reflect decades of experience and validated scientific knowledge. An ideal Army leader serves as a role model through strong intellect, physical presence, professional competence, and moral character. An Army leader is able and willing to act decisively, within superior leaders' intent and purpose, and in the organization's best interests. Army leaders recognize that organizations, built on mutual trust and confidence, accomplish missions. Every member of the Army, military or civilian, is part of a team and functions in the role of leader and subordinate. Being a good subordinate is part of being an effective leader. Leaders do not just lead subordinates-they also lead other leaders. Leaders are not limited to just those designated by position, rank, or authority.

The endurance of Army forces is primarily a function of their sustainment and is essential to retaining and exploiting the initiative. Sustainment provides the support necessary to maintain operations until mission accomplishment. The relationship between sustainment and operation is depicted in introductory figure-1 on page vi.Sustainment must be integrated and synchronized with operations at every level to include those of our joint and multinational partners. Sustainment depends on joint and strategic links for strategic airlift, sealift, intratheater airlift, and strategic and theater-level supply support. Sustainment depends on our host nation (HN) partners to provide infrastructure and logistics support necessary to ensure both maneuver forces and followon sustainment are delivered to right place, at the right time, and in an operable condition.

Walker and published by . This book was released on 1989 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This briefing reports (1) a review of requirements for ADP support of tactical command and control for the Army and Marine Corps, (2) an analysis of existing or emerging system options of one Service that could potentially be used by the other Service at a system or subsystem level, and (3) identification of options and issues with emphasis on interoperability issues. The assessment is limited to three function areas (maneuver control, fire support, and air operations/airspace control). The system-of-system concepts for Army and Marine Corps tactical systems (ATCCS, MTACCS) are discussed. The assessment concludes that there is substantial commonality of requirements and potential for multi-Service programs leading to fielding common system support of maneuver control, fire support, and battlefield air picture. Further, unless otherwise directed, the two Services may implement incompatible standards for data communications and data management.

Book excerpt: Training prepares the Army to conduct prompt and sustained operations across multiple domains. This manual, Army Doctrine Publication ADP 7-0 Training July 2019, articulates the Army's foundational training doctrine as leaders and units prepare to conduct unified land operations. The principal audience for this publication is Army commanders and staffs. Commanders and staffs of Army headquarters serving as joint task force or multinational headquarters should refer to applicable joint or multinational doctrine concerning joint or multinational planning.ADP 7-0 describes the fundamentals of how the Army trains to conduct operations as a unified action partneremploying the Army's operational concept-unified land operations. Developing and sustaining readiness isthe Army's number one priority. Training represents the most important activity units do every day to achievereadiness. The Army does this by conducting tough, realistic, standards-based, and performance-orientedtraining.ADP 7-0 is founded on the concept that unit training is a logical extension of the Army's operations process. The ideas and concepts of planning, preparing, executing, and assessing operations is fundamentally the same whether the unit trains to achieve readiness at home station or trains to operate when deployed. Learning and applying the concepts, ideas, and terminology of the operations process as units train makes the transition from training to operations more seamless for both leaders and their units-and improves the overall readiness of the force. Units train all the time-while deployed, at home station, and at combat training centers. Through effective, battle-focused training, units, leaders, and Soldiers achieve the tactical and technical competence that builds confidence, adaptability, and effectiveness. Army forces train using proven training doctrine that sustains their operational capabilities. The Army trains units, Soldiers, and Army Civilians to achieve proficiency in individual and collective tasks under challenging and realistic conditions. Training continues in deployed units to sustain skills and adapt to continual changes in an operational environment.During the entire training process, leaders provide candid and objective evaluations, assessments, after action reviews, and applied lessons learned. This approach produces versatile units, quality Soldiers, and Army Civilians ready to conduct operations. Readiness is the Army's top priority. Training is the most important activity units do to achieve and maintain readiness. ADP 7-0 establishes the principles and concepts of training and introduces training procedures.
