Book Synopsis On-Wafer Calibration Techniques Enabling Accurate Characterization of High-Performance Silicon Devices at the mm-Wave Range and Beyond by : Andrej Rumiantsev
Download or read book On-Wafer Calibration Techniques Enabling Accurate Characterization of High-Performance Silicon Devices at the mm-Wave Range and Beyond written by Andrej Rumiantsev and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The increasing demand for more content, services, and security drives the development of high-speed wireless technologies, optical communication, automotive radar, imaging and sensing systems and many other mm-wave and THz applications. S-parameter measurement at mm-wave and sub-mm wave frequencies plays a crucial role in the modern IC design debug. Most importantly, however, is the step of device characterization for development and optimization of device model parameters for new technologies. Accurate characterization of the intrinsic device in its entire operation frequency range becomes extremely important and this task is very challenging. This book presents solutions for accurate mm-wave characterization of advanced semiconductor devices. It guides through the process of development, implementation and verification of the in-situ calibration methods optimized for high-performance silicon technologies. Technical topics discussed in the book include: Specifics of S-parameter measurements of planar structures Complete mathematical solution for lumped-standard based calibration methods, including the transfer Thru-Match-Reflect (TMR) algorithms Design guideline and examples for the on-wafer calibration standards realized in both advanced SiGe BiCMOS and RF CMOS processes Methods for verification of electrical characteristics of calibration standards and accuracy of the in-situ calibration results Comparison of the new technique vs. conventional approaches: the probe-tip calibration and the pad parasitic de-embedding for various device types, geometries and model parameters New aspects of the on-wafer RF measurements at mmWave frequency range and calibration assurance.

This book was released on 2022-09-01 with total page 377 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The semiconductor industry is a fundamental building block of the new economy, there is no area of modern life untouched by the progress of nanoelectronics. The electronic chip is becomingan ever-increasing portion of system solutions, starting initially from less than 5% in the 1970 microcomputer era, to more than 60% of the final cost of a mobile telephone, 50% of the price of a personal computer (representing nearly 100% of the functionalities) and 30% of the price of a monitor in the early 2000’s.Interest in utilizing the (sub-)mm-wave frequency spectrum for commercial and research applications has also been steadily increasing. Such applications, which constitute a diverse but sizeable future market, span a large variety of areas such as health, material science, mass transit, industrial automation, communications, and space exploration.Silicon-Germanium Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors for mm-Wave Systems Technology, Modeling and Circuit Applications provides an overview of results of the DOTSEVEN EU research project, and as such focusses on key material developments for mm-Wave Device Technology. It starts with the motivation at the beginning of the project and a summary of its major achievements. The subsequent chapters provide a detailed description of the obtained research results in the various areas of process development, device simulation, compact device modeling, experimental characterization, reliability, (sub-)mm-wave circuit design and systems.

Book Synopsis RF Probe-Induced On-Wafer Measurement Errors in the Millimeter-Wave Frequency Range by : Mueller, Daniel
Download or read book RF Probe-Induced On-Wafer Measurement Errors in the Millimeter-Wave Frequency Range written by Mueller, Daniel and published by KIT Scientific Publishing. This book was released on 2018-11-22 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Measurement at millimeter-wave frequencies are prone to parasitic effects which distort the overall results. Especially the use of RF probes introduces unknown distortions, even after the measurement setup is calibrated. This works investigates these distortions based on electromagnetic field simulations of integrated circuits in conjunction with models of the used RF probes. This allows to comprehend the observed distortions and successfully resolve the root of the distortions.

This book was released on 2003-07-14 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The last research frontier in high frequency electronics now lies in the so-called THz (or submillimeter-wave) regime between the traditional microwave and infrared domains. Significant scientific and technical challenges within the terahertz (THz) frequency regime have recently motivated an array of new research activities. During the last few years, major research programs have emerged that are focused on advancing the state of the art in THz frequency electronic technology and on investigating novel applications of THz frequency sensing. This book serves as a detailed reference for the new THz frequency technological advances that are emerging across a wide spectrum of sensing and technology areas.

Book Synopsis Characterization and Modeling of SOI RF Integrated Components by : Morin Dehan
Download or read book Characterization and Modeling of SOI RF Integrated Components written by Morin Dehan and published by Presses univ. de Louvain. This book was released on 2003 with total page 238 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The boom of mobile communications leads to an increasing request of low cost and low power mixed mode integrated circuits. Maturity of SOI technology, and recent progresses of MOSFET's microwave performances, explain the success of silicon as compared to III-V technologies for low-cost multigigahertz analog applications. The design of efficient circuits requires accurate, wide-band models for both active and passive elements. Within this frame, passive and active components fabricated in SOI technologies have been studied. Various topologies of integrated transmission lines, like Coplanar Waveguides or thin film microstrip lines, have been analyzed. Also, a new physical model of integrated inductors has been developed. This model, based on a coupled line analysis of square spiral inductors, is scalable and independent of the technology used. Inductors with various spacing between strips, conductor widths, or number of turns can be simulated on different multi-layered substrates. Each layer that composes the substrate is defined using its electrical properties (permittivity, permeability, conductivity). The performances of integrated sub-micron MOSFETs are analyzed. New alternative structures of transistor (the Graded Channel MOSFET and the Dynamic Threshold MOSFET) are proposed to increase the performances of a CMOS technology for for analog, low power, low voltage, and microwave applications. They are studied from Low to High frequency. The graded channel MOSFET is an asymmetric doped channel MOSFET's which bring solutions for the problems of premature drain break-down, hot carrier effects, and threshold voltage (Vth) roll-off issues in deep submicrometer devices. The GCMOS processing is fully compatible with the conventional SOI MOSFET process flow, with no additional steps needed. The dynamic threshold voltage MOS is a MOS transistor for which the gate and the body channel are tied together. All DTMOS electrical properties can be deduced from standard MOS theory by introducing Vbs = Vgs. The main advantage of DTMOS over conventional MOS is its higher drive current at low bias conditions. To keep the body to source current as low as possible, the body bias voltage must be kept lower than 0.7 V. It seems obvious that the DTMOS transistor is an attractive component for low voltage applications.
