Book Synopsis Aquifer Characterization Techniques by : Robert G. Maliva
Download or read book Aquifer Characterization Techniques written by Robert G. Maliva and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-05-26 with total page 632 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents an overview of techniques that are available to characterize sedimentary aquifers. Groundwater flow and solute transport are strongly affected by aquifer heterogeneity. Improved aquifer characterization can allow for a better conceptual understanding of aquifer systems, which can lead to more accurate groundwater models and successful water management solutions, such as contaminant remediation and managed aquifer recharge systems. This book has an applied perspective in that it considers the practicality of techniques for actual groundwater management and development projects in terms of costs, technical resources and expertise required, and investigation time. A discussion of the geological causes, types, and scales of aquifer heterogeneity is first provided. Aquifer characterization methods are then discussed, followed by chapters on data upscaling, groundwater modelling, and geostatistics. This book is a must for every practitioner, graduate student, or researcher dealing with aquifer characterization .

Book Synopsis Aquifer Test Analysis with WindowsTM Software by : William C. Walton
Download or read book Aquifer Test Analysis with WindowsTM Software written by William C. Walton and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 1996-01-10 with total page 328 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this book is to broaden and improve aquifer test analysis by generating type curves for complicated aquifer and well conditions. It simplifies type curve matching with on-screen interactive techniques, and introduces a statistical semi-automatic protocol for calibrating aquifer test site models. In addition, it discusses the validity of aquifer test analysis results. For anyone involved in aquifers and wells, this is an excellent resource for testing and analysis.

Book Synopsis Groundwater Discharge Tests: Simulation and Analysis by : D. Clarke
Download or read book Groundwater Discharge Tests: Simulation and Analysis written by D. Clarke and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 1988-11-01 with total page 387 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book describes microcomputer programs which can be used to simulate or analyse water production well and aquifer discharge test data. Computer graphics are used to help visualise the data, and output to plotters is also catered for. Simple confined aquifers, leaky confined aquifers, unconfined aquifers and a variety of boundary conditions are dealt with. The book and the microcomputer programs it describes will allow the reader to apply very flexible computer techniques to the analysis of his well and aquifer discharge test data. The speed of the microcomputer analyses will give the user the opportunity of looking at his data in more ways than he would otherwise be able to, thus giving insights into the data that would not otherwise be possible. The simulation programs permit the production of type curve data, which can then be used in comparison with the real data, or used in becoming familiar with the operation of the analysis programs.Although primarily intended for practicing hydrogeologists and universities teaching hydrogeology, this book would also be of interest to anyone having an interest in the effects of groundwater extraction. The programs will run on IBM PCs and compatibles with colour graphics.
Download or read book Aquifer Hydraulics written by Vedat Batu and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 1998-02-27 with total page 756 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. (01/98)
Book Synopsis Contaminants in the Subsurface by : National Research Council
Download or read book Contaminants in the Subsurface written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2005-04-23 with total page 371 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: At hundreds of thousands of commercial, industrial, and military sites across the country, subsurface materials including groundwater are contaminated with chemical waste. The last decade has seen growing interest in using aggressive source remediation technologies to remove contaminants from the subsurface, but there is limited understanding of (1) the effectiveness of these technologies and (2) the overall effect of mass removal on groundwater quality. This report reviews the suite of technologies available for source remediation and their ability to reach a variety of cleanup goals, from meeting regulatory standards for groundwater to reducing costs. The report proposes elements of a protocol for accomplishing source remediation that should enable project managers to decide whether and how to pursue source remediation at their sites.
Book Synopsis Hydrogeologic Characterization of Wells HTH-1, UE18r, UE6e, and HTH-3, Nevada Test Site by :
Download or read book Hydrogeologic Characterization of Wells HTH-1, UE18r, UE6e, and HTH-3, Nevada Test Site written by and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 73 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Monitoring for the migration of contaminants in groundwater or for the proper design of nuclear test emplacement holes at the Nevada Test Site (NTS) requires proper placement and completion of monitoring wells. This is only possible if the hydrogeologic system is understood in a regional and local context, necessitating data from existing wells and boreholes. Though the NTS Groundwater Characterization Project will be drilling wells, their great expense limits the number of new wells. However, there are many existing boreholes and wells on the NTS which have not been completely evaluated hydrologically. Some of these are incorporated in the Long Term Hydrologic Monitoring Program (LTHMP) of the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), others are related to the testing programs. In all cases, additional site investigation in necessary to properly interpret the hydrogeologic data from these wells. Monitoring wells on the NTS are poorly characterized with regard to aquifers penetrated, vertical hydraulic gradients, and vertical variations in water quality. One of the goals of the well validation program was to gain a thorough understanding of the parameters needed to interpret the source and fate potential hazardous and radioactive substances that may be detected in these wells in the future. One of the most critical parameters for monitoring is the knowledge of what aquifer or geologic unit is being sampled when a water sample is collected. Pumped water samples are weighted most heavily to the water quality of the most productive (highest transmissivity) aquifer penetrated by the well.
