Book excerpt: International Series of Monographs in Analytical Chemistry, Volume 47: Analytical Chemistry of Molybdenum and Tungsten describes the chemical and instrumental methods of analysis of molybdenum and tungsten. This book is composed of 15 chapters that particularly consider detailed methods for determining these metals in typical samples and their alloys by both classical and modern techniques. The opening chapters discuss the history, occurrence, physico-chemical properties, and applications of molybdenum and tungsten. The succeeding chapters deal with the metals’ sampling, decomposition, separation, and qualitative detection. Considerable chapters are devoted to various chemical and instrumental methods for their analysis, including gravimetry, titrimetry, colorimetry, polarography, amperometry, coulometry, emission and atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray spectrophotometry, mass spectrometry, and radiochemical methods. The concluding chapter examines the determination of impurities and alloying elements. This book will prove useful to analytical and inorganic chemists, as well as analytical and inorganic chemistry students.

Book Synopsis Molybdenum and Tungsten Enzymes by : Russ Hille
Download or read book Molybdenum and Tungsten Enzymes written by Russ Hille and published by Royal Society of Chemistry. This book was released on 2016-09-30 with total page 340 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There has been enormous progress in our understanding of molybdenum and tungsten enzymes and relevant inorganic complexes of molybdenum and tungsten over the past twenty years. This set of three books provides a timely and comprehensive overview of the field and documents the latest research. Building on the first and second volumes that focussed on biochemistry and bioinorganic chemistry aspects, the third volume focusses on spectroscopic and computational methods that have been applied to both enzymes and model compounds. A particular emphasis is placed on how these important studies have been used to reveal critical components of enzyme mechanisms. This text will be a valuable reference to workers both inside and outside the field, including graduate students and young investigators interested in developing new research programs in this area.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Chemistry of Chromium, Molybdenum and Tungsten deals with the chemistry of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten. The discovery and history, occurrence and distribution, and production of all three elements are discussed, along with their industrial uses, preparation, and allotropes; nuclear, physical, and chemical properties; biological activities; and analytical chemistry. Organized into three sections, this volume begins with an overview of the history, occurrence and distribution, and production of chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten, as well as their industrial uses, preparation, and allotropes; nuclear, physical, and chemical properties; biological activities; and analytical chemistry. The intermetallic phases in binary alloys of all three elements are also considered, along with their oxidation states and respective compounds including compounds with non-metallic elements; compounds of ?-acceptor ligands; organometallic complexes; and peroxy compounds such as peroxychromates, tetraperoxy molybdates, and peroxy tungstates. This book will be of interest to inorganic chemists as well as students and researchers in the field of inorganic chemistry.

Download or read book Transition Metals in Catalysis written by Silke Leimkühler and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-03-10 with total page 186 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Iron–sulfur (FeS) centers are essential protein cofactors in all forms of life. They are involved in many key biological processes. In particular, Fe-S centers not only serve as enzyme cofactors in catalysis and electron transfer, they are also indispensable for the biosynthesis of complex metal-containing cofactors. Among these cofactors are the molybdenum (Moco) and tungsten (Wco) cofactors. Both Moco/Wco biosynthesis and Fe-S cluster assembly are highly conserved among all kingdoms of life. After formation, Fe-S clusters are transferred to carrier proteins, which insert them into recipient apo-proteins. Moco/Wco cofactors are composed of a tricyclic pterin compound, with the metal coordinated to its unique dithiolene group. Moco/Wco biosynthesis starts with an Fe-S cluster-dependent step involving radical/S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) chemistry. The current lack of knowledge of the connection of the assembly/biosynthesis of complex metal-containing cofactors is due to the sheer complexity of their synthesis with regard to both the (genetic) regulation and (chemical) metal center assembly. Studies on these metal-cofactors/cofactor-containing enzymes are important for understanding fundamental cellular processes. They will also provide a comprehensive view of the complex biosynthesis and the catalytic mechanism of metalloenzymes that underlie metal-related human diseases.
Book Synopsis Molybdenum Chemistry of Biological Significance by : William E. Newton
Download or read book Molybdenum Chemistry of Biological Significance written by William E. Newton and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In retrospect, it was obvious that we were both, quite inde pendently, contemplating a conference on the role of molybdenum in biology and related chemistry. At the time though, the meeting of minds on this matter was quite surprising. Although this subject has been treated in previous meetings within the overall context of, say, magnetic resonance or nitrogen fixation, it was apparent to us both that research in molybdenum-containing enzymes and molyb denum chemistry had progressed rapidly in the last several years. Jointly, we decided to organize the first meeting on Molybdenum Chemistry of Biological Significance which was held at the Hotel Lake Biwa, Shiga, Japan, on April 10-13, 1979. This volume con stitutes the Proceedings of that international conference and covers the broad spectrum of interests from enzymes to coordination chemistry. It should serve not only as a source of new information on the latest research results in this area and as a useful ref erence tool, but should also allow a newcomer or other peripherally interested researcher to become conversant very rapidly with the "state-of-the-art" in this specialized and important area of research. The conference was sponsored by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science, the Japan World Exposition Commemerative Fund the Yamada Science Foundation, the Nissan Science Foundation, the Chemical Society of Japan (Kinki Regional Office) and the Agri cultural Chemical Society of Japan (Kansai Branch). We thank these organizations sincerely for their interest and generosity.

Book Synopsis The Chemistry of Aqua Ions: Synthesis, Structure and Reactivity by : David T. Richens

This book was released on 1997-04-08 with total page 622 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been written at a time when environmental issues and the move towards "clean technology" is driving synthetic chemists away from organic based solvent systems and towards water as the preferred medium of the future. The paints industry has already moved to aqueous based products. Metal aqua complexes are widely used in the areas of catalysis, dyes and pigments and in hydrometallurgy where a complete understanding of the metal ions in aqueous media is highly desirable.
