Book Synopsis Surviving the Frog Bog: Life, Love, and Laughter in the Age of Aquarius by : Alan J. Paul
Download or read book Surviving the Frog Bog: Life, Love, and Laughter in the Age of Aquarius written by Alan J. Paul and published by Independently Published. This book was released on 2019-04-02 with total page 122 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: If, like me, you are a member of the so-called "Baby Boom" generation, and if, like me, you are still existing on the more desirable side of the sod, give yourself a heartfelt pat on the back. (This assuming, of course, that, unlike me, your arthritic shoulder joints will allow such a kinesiologically challenging movement.) You've earned this display of self-pride, in large measure, because you have survived-perhaps even thrived-during particularly turbulent times. You were born after the "war to end all wars," into one of the great feel-good periods in American history... And it's been pretty much downhill from there. Turns out that the War to End All Wars was actually a war-generator, powering numerous conflicts around the world-both hot and cold-during our tenure on the planet. We are the generation that sought shelter under our desks at school during nuke attack drills, prayed fervently for our lives as the Cuban missile crisis unfolded, saw a beloved President, charismatic civil rights leader, and presidential candidate succumb to assassins' bullets... And I'm not even out of the Sixties yet! I think you get my point: We've lived through many harrowing events during what was billed as the "Aquarian Age," the epoch on the astrological timeline characterized by relative harmony and well-being, during which humanity takes control of the Earth. We experienced relatively little of the harmonious stuff, as I recall, but we sure did take control of the planet! And I would propose that we essentially messed her up, to the point where Mother Nature herself would hardly recognize her home. But in spite of all that (or perhaps because of it) I find myself, at this point in my life, concentrating on what's been righteous during my stay here. Perhaps that's a product of the aging process: We tend to accentuate the positive as we age, while eliminating the negative as much as we are able. (A doctrine which, if followed religiously by humankind from day-one, would no doubt have yielded an infinitely better result here on Earth.)
Book Synopsis The Boiled Frog Syndrome by : Thomas Saunders
Download or read book The Boiled Frog Syndrome written by Thomas Saunders and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2003-04-28 with total page 275 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Boiled Frog Syndrome presents compelling evidence to show that the source of the majority of the Western diseases of civilisation that have multiplied over the past 100 years, ranging from cancers to debilitating sicknesses and allergies, can be traced to the modern built environment, our increasing exposure to electromagnetic radiation and the indiscriminate use of untested advanced technology. It is also due, in part, to the 20th century's repudiation of perennial wisdom.
Book Synopsis Frog Hollow Journal by : James G. T. Fairfield
Download or read book Frog Hollow Journal written by James G. T. Fairfield and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2009-03 with total page 174 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Frog Hollow Journal is a colorful memoir - peopled with vividly drawn neighbors, family members, and a beloved dog. It is the story of one family's quest to carve out a more authentic life amid the demands of modern society. With self-deprecating humor and the telling detail of a born raconteur, James Fairfield traces a path from his childhood on the Canadian prairie to his transformative experiences on a small farm in Virginia's Shenandoah Valley. James, like many of us, felt overwhelmed by responsibilities, credit limits, and rush hour traffic. After moving to Virginia, however, he began to yield to the countryside's slower cadences and realize that life doesn't have to be so hectic. His musings along the way, and the lessons learned through exploring the Beatitudes, trace his spiritual journey as well. Anyone, he proposes, can learn to live "Frog Hollow style," practicing integrity, neighborliness, and indomitable faith. Here is an affectionate account, roaming from the pick-up ball games and lively escapades of the author's youth on the plains of Manitoba, Canada, to the honorable inhabitants and timeless traditions of the Shenandoah Valley. His experiences, often humorously humbling and spiritually challenging, are illustrated by Norma's drawings. AUTHOR BIO James G. T. Fairfield has written in many genres, including a syndicated newspaper column; articles for naturalist publications; and books on conflict resolution, theological studies, and biography. He and his wife, Norma (a gardener, vegetarian cook, and illustrator) live in a century-old farmhouse near Frog Hollow. They have been married for sixty-three years.

Book Synopsis Decision Science for Future Earth by : Tetsukazu Yahara
Download or read book Decision Science for Future Earth written by Tetsukazu Yahara and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-01-29 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This open access book provides a theoretical framework and case studies on decision science for regional sustainability by integrating the natural and social sciences. The cases discussed include solution-oriented transdisciplinary studies on the environment, disasters, health, governance and human cooperation. Based on these case studies and comprehensive reviews of relevant works, including lessons learned from past failures for predictable surprises and successes in adaptive co-management, the book provides the reader with new perspectives on how we can co-design collaborative projects with various conflicts of interest and how we can transform our society for a sustainable future. The book makes a valuable contribution to the global research initiative Future Earth, promoting transdisciplinary studies to bridge the gap between science and society in knowledge generation processes and supporting efforts to achieve the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Compared to other publications on transdisciplinary studies, this book is unique in that evolutionary biology is used as an integrator for various areas related to human decision-making, and approaches social changes as processes of adaptive learning and evolution. Given its scope, the book is highly recommended to all readers seeking an integrated overview of human decision-making in the context of social transformation.
Download or read book Mrs. Caliban written by Rachel Ingalls and published by New Directions Publishing. This book was released on 2017-11-15 with total page 115 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Now back in print, Mrs. Caliban is “totally unforgettable” (The New York Times Book Review) and “something of a miracle” (The New Yorker) In the quiet suburbs, while Dorothy is doing chores and waiting for her husband to come home from work, not in the least anticipating romance, she hears a strange radio announcement about a monster who has just escaped from the Institute for Oceanographic Research… Reviewers have compared Rachel Ingalls’s Mrs. Caliban to King Kong, Edgar Allan Poe’s stories, the films of David Lynch, Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz, E.T., Richard Yates’s domestic realism, B-horror movies, and the fairy tales of Angela Carter—how such a short novel could contain all of these disparate elements is a testament to its startling and singular charm.

Book Synopsis Frog Kissing for Beginners by : Hanna Clarin
Download or read book Frog Kissing for Beginners written by Hanna Clarin and published by BoD – Books on Demand. This book was released on 2019-06-25 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Johanna Lenné is an active, successful lawyer in her late thirties who lives in Zurich and generally enjoys life: Hiking with friends, singing in a choir, taking long bike rides, traveling, and work. Life could be quite perfect if there wasn't this one black hole which she falls or is pushed into, every now and then: Jo is single. Her best friend Klara's wedding is, naturally, another occasion for a free fall into the black hole, and Jo bets with an equally single colleague that they would find partners, within a year. In the ensuing months, she works her way through the methods of modern partner search - studiously and unsuccessfully: Speed flirting, dating websites, clubs, visits at concerts or museums, old-fashioned set-ups by friends. Her dating spree leads her to a Porsche driver working his way through the Kama Sutra, a likably huggable Saint Bernard with a not so likable attachment on the upper end of the leach, a testosterone evaporating gym junkie, many guys too shy to say hi, or a couple therapist who doesn't believe in twosomeness - and more. When she increasingly questions whether there really is such a thing as eternal love or whether she has just fallen prey to a well-advertised myth, too many Jane Austen novels and rom coms, or exaggerated expectations, she meets Dr Mark Kinsey, a man who knows what he wants: Johanna. But is he really what she wants? Her better half? Her soulmate? The time has come for Johanna to decide what really matters in her life.
